SplitEQ™ is a fantastic EQ that offers a fundamentally new approach to corrective and creative audio equalization. It excels at Repairing, Rebalancing, Enhancing, and Widening any musical source or audio signal. SplitEQ is both a surgical tool for fixing particularly nasty problems and it opens up exciting new musical possibilities. More than just an EQ - It’s a new and better tool.
At first glance, it’s a parametric EQ with 8-bands of precise musical filters. What’s new and different is Eventide’s powerful Structural Split engine which divides the incoming audio into separate Transient and Tonal streams that feed the 8 bands. This approach makes common EQ problems easy to solve-even in a complex mix-and it opens up new and exciting musical possibilities.
- Want to soften the transients? Use the master Transient Gain slider.
- Remove plosives or de-ess? EQ only the Transient.
- Reduce snare ring? Put a filter on the Tonal mids.
By applying EQ and panning to Transient and Tonal separately, you can fix many of the problems normally attacked using complex combinations of EQ, compression, transient designers, de-essers, multi-band compression, spatial processors, or dynamic EQ. Simplify and declutter your workflow, get better results, and create new sounds.

SSL's eq-x 2 is pretty much perfect if your want a clean, flexible digital eq. If I'm not looking for eq "color," I'm using eq-x 2.
Fabfilter works great for me, for some reason sometimes the Waves EQ Renaissance sounds better in a few instruments, Mäag Audio EQ4 sometimes, I also like to use an SSL on the guitar bus.
IZotope Elements 🤘🏽
"I like the fact that it doesn't have rusty screws on it"...that's gold right there. BTW, that's gonna be the name of my next band, Rusty Screws.
Haha thanks Al!
Bought it without seing this video first, had a lot of fun and can just say that this thing is like half a dozen plugins in one. All you need to mix and master now is a couple of compressors, a good reverb, a limiter and this thing. It literally makes things like Soothe 2, Gullfoss and other "cheat"-plugins obsolete once you get your head around everything this plugin has to offer. It is a transient shaper, de-esser, stereo/mono maker and loads of other things. Just crazy, and a right out steal at $99.
Thanks ever is much for sharing Eirik!
I think I might have to buy this. I have gulfoss and use it often but I find it doesn't always do what I want it to.
Reverb?
Demoed for 10 mins, instant buy... Amazing for removing mud from keys while leaving the punch intact or bringing out the percussive sound of a funky guitar, without overpowering the vocals. Great video as always Warren!
That's amazing Zack!
Your excitement over this is contagious! What it did for those guitars and vocals was magic.
Thanks ever so much my friend! You Rock!!
@@Producelikeapro It's deffo an instabuy for me when I get paid next week.
The demo sounds bananas on metal guitars. The mid-sizzle is like listening to a pan of Walls sausages being fried by Linda Lusardi filming an ASMR video.
@@MartinvonBargen hahaha thanks Martin!
Have used other versions of this but here is a great straightforward GUI. Well done Eventide!
Fantastic! Thanks Murray!
Thanks Warren, great lesson on EQ in general as well as demonstrating this plug! Hope you are recovering from your injury! All best, MC
I tried the demo and straight away bought it, Old pro guitarist Iv'e always had problems controlling the string punch and tone on the higher strings (clean sounds) this has solved it, now I can match the backing tracks easily.I can now place it perfectly.
Thanks Eventide.
That's amazing to hear!
Thanks for sharing!
@@Producelikeapro Thanks for making the vid. I did not know about it.
Just downloaded the demo and put it on a couple of tracks from a piece I've been having problems getting a good mix with. Played around with the frequencies and then panned a couple of those frequencies and it had me in tears. It's just brought out the magic in that piece for me. Buying this whatever. Thanks for your in depth review.
Thanks ever so much! I’m glad to be able help review it!
That is a powerful bit of kit right there. No clutter.
Yes, simple GUI I like that!
Love your detailed experimenting with it. Finally got the demo and will be purchasing after the demo. It's nice to see some real creativity and imagination at work with the results of this plugin. Thanks Warren for a great demo ride! You Rock sir!
Great to be able to treat audio in this way! Expand your mind!
Thanks Chris!!
Eventide is a great company. EQ plugins remind me of guitar pedals - the market is beyond saturated. But this IS a pretty neat EQ. I think for me, as a small studio owner, I'm always looking for bang for the buck and give me the biggest improvements for the least money. $99 isn't bad.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Considering it's Eventide, I honestly expected one of those absurdly priced plugins. Like $299 or something. $99 is well within reason.
@@rome8180 agreed 100%!
This seems to be an entire game changer. 99 bucks I’m all in. They’ve taken equalization to a higher level of pinpoint accuracy and definition.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing
I have had the demo on the whole afternoon on various sessions. This one's a keeper no doubt. Then I go on YT and here you are with the same plugin. A very useful tool indeed :-)

The power of this thing serms incredible. Worth the money, indeed. This one can replace a whole bunch of plugins I’m using now. A game changer.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing
Incredible work. Well done the eventide team. They always bring the goods.
Fantastic!!
Looks really interesting. Can't wait to try this out. Thanks for another great video, as usual.
Thanks for watching
On drums this seems like a godsend, I often find I have issues where the high end of the transient of the snare can be annoying, using compression means less overall transients, less high end means a dull snare. With this it seems like I can take out some of the high end transient and add in that high end in the tonal side. Actually a new EQ plugin that does something that others don't!
I was very happy with this plug in! Agreed, drums and dense mixes and are going to be fit hugely from this

Warren, if I am a tenth as excited as you are, I want this. I think this truly could be a "game-changer". WANT!! Wish it was a little cheaper. I know it's on offer, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on "an EQ". I know, I know - it's not just an EQ. Did I mention I want this...? Spiff by oeksound does basically the same thing, but this does look great too!
I’m huge Oeksound fan, Soothe 2 is one of my go to plug ins on every mix! This plug in is going to be one of my go tos now!
Though its more Transients than also Tonal eq like this... yeh?
Rightly said Warren 💯

warren did you notice the pan? that's the game changer.
My fav Eq's at the moment are Bx SSL 4000 E & Fab Pro Q3 but im always open for new stuff!
Absolute game changer across the board ...pun intended ...this is the kind of thing we as engineers try to do with multiple plug in chains...NOT ANY MORE ...WOW

Really getting into Harrison 32c emulation plugins. Some of my favourite tracks came through this console.
Harrison is great! I've been mixing all my stuff in Harrison Mixbus for some time now and I'm really not regretting it!
Looks ideal for acoustic guitar, especially rhythm which always has a lot of transients.
Exactly! Great stuff
@@Producelikeapro the ultimate would also be dynamic eq control of tone and transients.
@@charliebryce3783 it can control the levels of both of those! I would try in on a trial! You’ll love it
Very cool!
Thanks ever so much
I think it could be an impulse for competition to more innovative aproach in plugin desining
Agreed!
Good lord, Warren!
Your wearing cans around your neck, which at first glance, I thought was an ascot.
On the other hand, this EQ looks like it’s headed for my plug-in pool.
Thank you for the review👍
You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video
Even just using just the "full mix" separation algorithm rendered great results. I wonder how well the specific algos will work.
Thanks ever so much
this really is a good plug.... must have...utility on everything.
Fantastic
@@Producelikeapro it cleans up a lot of routing work flow/ multiple plug ins required to do this without the plug. Being able to pan both tonal and transient content is a big deal. you say this has very little hit on the cpu too? It is going for a hundred buck too at the moment, no brainer.
@@metalplatedfacejob thanks for sharing!
Qool.. great idea .
Thanks ever so much!
Actually reminds me of Oxford dynamic EQ in function as well
That’s a good eq as well
This looks great! Don't forget to change the source though, at the bottom under band 2. I have read it changes things behind the scenes depending on the source your dealing with, you had it set to full mix the whole way through.
Indeed, if you watched the whole video I explained I kept on full range myself for large periods before then switching to their presets. When you demo it feel free to use their presets first and then go back to full range and see how it works for you
@@Producelikeapro cool my bad, I didn't see the end of the vid as my boss caught me watching it 😅🤣😇
Would love to win a copy! Great video!
Your Blue headphones are peeling just like mine. I'm always afraid I'll go out somewhere with a piece of that stuff on my ear! Lol
Haha I still love them though!
I'm already loving this. However I've got an eternal problem of my brain saying "Have I gone too far? No it's good. No wait. Yup. You went too far."
Haha I believe we all do!
You can do sort of this effect by doubling the track applying filters and controlling the dynamics from a sidechain of the same track
@@levondarratt787 Yeah this plugin is a neat abstraction to quickly solve a problem or get a specific result. You can do the same thing without and with more flexibility but it is more messy and takes longer to tweak.
You had me at Eventide
I’ve started leaving a bit of dead air at the front of my recordings recently to find all the inherent noise of my system and notch EQ out the offensive hiss, hum and what not. These visual tools could help isolate the Freaky Freqz.
Haha exactly! Love the pedigree of Eventide!
@@Producelikeapro a thoroughbred for sure
This multitrack pack is one of the best ever to try out stuff.
I had similar ideas about what to do, now you found an EQ that can do it faster and more focused.
Soundcloud has a lot of interesting mixes on that song.
But can we tweak the separation between attack and steady component per EQ band? Like, the transient time-constants should be slower for lower frequencies.
What I did back then was a 4-band split into 4 transient designers, Flux-bitter-sweet as I remember.
GROOVY!
Thanks ever so much
The BEST walkthrough you've ever done. Period. Probably because you're the kid in the candy shoppe learning that you like SUGAR! Awesomeness, Sir Warren, aka Kid Sugar, haha
Nice Warren,,, This is nice,,, You'll probably like Transgressor by Boz Digital... Not used this SplitEQ yet (will be lol) Though I believe Transgressor goes more extreme, same concept controlling resonance and transient of chosen frequencies separately. Though no panning. These are pretty incredible control idea's for a bunch of musicians lol..
What I’m liking is it’s musicality. Others are pointing similar plug ins, which do similar things, however none of them have become widely used because they mess too much with the integrity of the source material. I believe why many people at echoing to like this is because it maintains the integrity. Many thanks, Warren
Just take my money, this on drums, surfer eq on bass, I'll be in heaven.
Fantastic Tim!
It's an interesting way to do it. I'm an amateur compared to most of you guys out there in my studio. I'm just a solo artist writing and recording his own music. I have iZotope's version similar to this and just haven't found it to work well for me. I prefer good old fashion graphic eq's for mixing and mastering. Maybe because in many ways I'm still old fashion.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Do you mean izotopes transient shaper? that is very different thats a dynamic transient shaper that is multiband. Its like the opposite order of operations to this. I mean it can probably achieve similar things but the way you use it is very different.
@@JimijaymesProductions No the Neutron 3 Equalizer. Seems very similar to the Eventide.
@@yanossnicklefritz7064 Thats just a dynamic fully parametric EQ with cool sidechain features unless there is an update I don't know about. Great for that purpose, the eventide doesn't do dynamic EQ and also doesn't have the masking feature of Neutron that I like to use sometimes. If you are struggling to find a purpose for the Neutron equalizer, i'd start off with not using the dynamic modes and use the alt function where you can hold the alt key and it isolates the band and then you can move that band around to try and find a problematic frequency or the frequency that is needing to be boosted. Definitely a different way of thinking to old school analog EQ though.
@@JimijaymesProductions I appreciate it. The way I look at it, there is a use for everything. I'll keep trying it on different things like the rest of the plugins I've bought and added on. And eventually as I use it more, the more I may find uses for it and like using it.
Good Music !!!
Transient or tonal control option.. In one EQ? I'm in. One thing I have become quite addicted to is the auto gain feature of Sonnox Claro , this plugin with a similar auto gain algorithm would be pure gold
This is definitely being added to my short list of must haves!
@@Producelikeapro I've been trialling the MtM Reso against Soothe 2, as far as filtering eqs go it's hard not to like the Reso, I'm trying not to like it and it has some ironing out but tonally, it seems to me it's a more transparent alternative certainly worth having a gander at. Good month for eq and resonance tools
Ymmv, be well kind man ✌️ 🎶 🎶
Killer eq sonnox Claro auto gain is very good and the tow channel split option eq.. That it shows the disturbing frequencies like sibilance and too much energy in the low end. Really great function!👌👍😉
I am surprised that nobody mentioned Quantum of Wavesfactory, it does not only EQ the transient and the tonal separately, it also does reverb, chorus, compressor, saturation, limiter, convolution, stereo-stuff, and much, much more. All separately on transient and tonal…
Frei:Raum by Sonible also does that kind of thing, it never gets mentioned for some reason. But SplitEQ has a nice layout to it and it seems to sound great from what I've heard.
Reminds me of the Oxford dynamic eq at least the interface does
They are good plug ins too
that is footing cool
Haha thanks David
Steinberg has already done this. Frequency and spectral layers.
Boz Digital Labs Transgressor 2 was released in 2017 which does much the same thing and a bit more...
Looks like a fun tool! While other plugins might have similar capabilities, it seems that the GUI functionality/design on this one makes it stand out. So it also looks like a time saving tool. Cheers everyone!
I’m really enjoying it!!
Looks pretty sweet! I was just looking at Sonnox's Transmod. Would this be able to completely replace a transient shaper like that or SPL's transient designer?
I believe for purely transient shaping the SPL or a number of other transient designer only plug ins still have a place! This is an amazing tool for keeping the bite or attack of a part without the overbearing EQ of just boosting that area
@@Producelikeapro Roger that! Thanks for the response, and all your insightful and cheerful videos =]
@@rocknrory you’re very welcome
Would love to win
Enter to win!
It seems like parallel compression with EQ... only question, is it causing phase issues?
interesting eq! I thought you got new monitors? Genelc? Thanks for the video!
I do! I have been switching in and out trying new monitors etc recently and the 1032’s have been my go to for 20 years now!
@@Producelikeapro right on! just making sure I pay attention! haha Thanks!
its like soothe and an EQ in one .
I like both of those things! I think I will use it differently form the way I use Soothe 2. That’s still one of my favourite plug ins! I love this plug in though!
I'm going to have to watch the rest of this video later and see if there's an explanation. 10 minutes in and I'm not sure what's going on here?
what's soo different than fab filter ProQ3 or even WAVES F6 dynamic EQ?
It reminds me the Sonible entropy:EQ+ plugin.
Admittedly it’s a similar idea to entropy:EQ+. That said, separating the Transient/Tonal components of an audio signal and processing them separately has existed in our Physion plugin since early 2017. Physion lets you separately EQ transient and tonal components (amongst many other effects), albeit with 3 bands only. SplitEQ is an extension of that idea, with far greater control.
SplitEQ behaves like a tool you already know - an EQ. You have all of the bells and whistles of any standard EQ (multiple filter options, higher order slopes, spectrum analyzer, etc), and can apply those to the entire signal, or the individual Transient or Tonal components of the signal. The panning options also open up a breadth of sounds not before possible. Other tools on the market are similar, but we believe this takes equalization to a new level.
Look AT the New plugin of DJ Swivel and his tonal eq !
Yes! We are going to do that!
So this is like Transgressor, but more expensive...and more advanced in some areas.
I'm guessing Eventide went ahead and update and polished their engine from Physion (was it called like that, can't say for sure now) and applied new thinking on the EQ. Owning some of Eventide fine tools, which are great, I just can say this is new approach to the EQ with 2 split planes in soond image and I am sure Eventide did it again! Nice work!
Physion! Yes! I was wondering if Newfangled Audio had his hand in this as well.
cool
Indeed!
Hmm can we select multiple transient/resonance nodes and adjust together ? Try control or shift + left click ? or Left click off node and drag select ?
Yes, there is a quick key if you need it
Could I achieve the same thing from the Split EQ with Fabfilter Pro Q3 (for the sustain) and Oeksound Spiff (for the transients)? I think the Split EQ is doing the same thing as what I would do with the other two, but I am not sure exactly (seeing that Spiff is dynamic and only either boost or cut, but not both). I really like what I could do with Spiff and Pro Q3 running together though.
Since everything is moving to Atmos i hope they add it for that as well.
I'm sure they will!
The potential for music is already amazing... Applying this to Atmos music and video/movie effects and sounds in general is would really be incredible. Final Cut just added full Atmos support, so hopefully it'll be soon!
Hey Warren,,, you ever-ready battery, get some sleep !!! lol I appreciate you, thanks for all.
Haha good to be busy!!
For a second there, I thought it was called Splite Q (SPLITEQ). LOL
Haha
Ah! This is exactly what I needed today on a pagan drum that was played fast. As it was resonating at a very low frequency it got either boomy or cardboardy... well: next time...
Yes, next time Christoph!
This EQ broke the internet
Yes, it seems it did!
Who gave this a thumbs down? This SEQ is bitchin! Warren pretty much got his entire mix in the ballpark with 1 EQ in 1/2 hour and you got a thumbs down?
Haha it’s ok! Thanks for your great comment
@@Producelikeapro Well, I listened to all the usual suspects who reviewed the SEQ and you win with the deepest dive and real world examples with a generous 45 minute video.. Appreciate what you do to earn those thumbs downs! lol
There is something to be aware of worth mentioning. This is a MIXING tool. It creates a considerable amount of latency. Especially when you deploy it liberally. Suggesting this can be a main goto EQ is not really accurate in pre production at least. That is not a deal breaker tho, because it's a remarkably useful and effective tool. It seems to do everything in the EQ realm better than any "traditional" EQ, It's clearly a step forward and hopefully just a glimpse of how interesting future tools inspired by SplitEQ are going to be. Said it before, I'll say it again. Don't be sucked into buying photographs of vintage gear. Support future think!
Is this like the Sonible Entropy+? I love that plugin though is per band switchable transient/resonant or normal e.q. So since i own that one for maybe 2 years, the concept is not new...
The concepts are similar, but the implementation is a little different. Instead of separate filter types for EQ and Entropy bands, all bands have have transient and tonal filters. To use a band as a normal EQ, just use the white handles. To boost transient or tonal, just grab the relevant tab. If you shift drag on the gain value down in the band editors, you can boost tonal gain while cutting transient gain (or vice versa) by an equivalent amount. (So unlike Sonible, you have gains for each rather than a mix control for transient and tonal). This makes it easier to maintain the levels of the tonal signal across the spectrum if you boost the transients on the high end (since they’ll stay the same)
hi whats the band name? sounds great.
