About me
Hi, my name is Tina and I'm a data scientist at a FAANG company. I was pre-med studying pharmacology at the University of Toronto until I finally accepted that I would make a terrible doctor. I didn't know what to do with myself so I worked for a year as a research assistant for a bioinformatics lab where I learned how to code and became interested in data science. I then did a masters in computer science (MCIT) at the University of Pennsylvania before ending up at my current job in tech :)

Summary:
Datacamp: Video based; so it has more information included. Holds you hand more than the rest and good for people who are starting with 0 coding/industry knowledge. You'll need more resources to truly get to a competent entry level status. 10 months avg
Dataquest: Career/Track focused. Text based but has thorough explanantion of most topics and practices helps you get to the end faster. Things they dont cover in detail you'll have to learn yourself. Project centric! You will still need more resources/skills/experience to get to a competent entry level status. 7 month avg
Udemy - 365 DataScience: Lecture Based: Animaton + Text . Complete Guide with both theory and practical exercises. Not really project based but super thorough in teaching from 0 - entry level +. Not really useful when it comes to career support (since its a course) but nonetheless, just for the information presented in the coruse is very much worth the price. Case studies are nice, but it will require more discipline to do actual projects on your own. 6 month avg

"You don't really need to remember the syntax for anything. If I literally don't remember the syntax for really basic Python things, for example, when I'm trying to do a filter and I literally forget how to do a filter every single time, I will go look up the documentation for it. That's kind of how it is. You're constantly going to be looking stuff up. Because the syntax doesn't matter. It's more about the knowledge and how to apply it that matters. So I highly encourage you to not get caught up in the details and syntax of things."
This is a timeless piece of insight and advice. It will always be relevant and useful to know and practice. Definitely becomes second nature over time.
TLDR: Don't memorize. Look it up.
Na you should memorize it. Some things you just need to memorize.
@@boejiden7093 that will come by practice, not rote memorization
I also never memorize the syntax. But I write it down every single word 🤣🤣
Do you think it's better to screenshot or copy it and store it rather than write it down?
Dived in the 365 Datascience course. Now I have completed 16 sections. It's like all you need to know is there and they have structured the course amazingly
Love your methodical , straightforward communication style !! Thanks a ton !!!
I freaking love your videos and style. Keep doing what you're doing.
What a great comparison video, thanks for doing this session Tina. I was in a situation where I tried Datacamp and Dataquest, and now settling in Udemy 365 Data Science course. Totally agree the pros and cons you pointed out. I've had STEM education but want to change career, so for me Udemy gives more flexibility than other platforms. I can easily skip the section or fast forward the concepts I'm already familiar with. Thanks for your strong emphasis on "doing projects" for those we are learning through the udemy course. I really needed this advice since I felt overwhelmed with the extensive amount of information that the course provides. I'm now looking for the project ideas in parallel!
Liked the way you held the session in "live" also. It gives me the vibe that you are being truthful and not sugar-coating anything. It's a rare opportunity to see honest reviews from the insider of a leading tech company. Quite longer than usual YT videos but I can 2x or FF to hear what I needed. Thanks for your time and effort Tina.
You won't recommend Datacamp and Dataquest for anyone?
A few courses on datacamp might take more time but most of the courses can be completed within 4 hrs... Basically like a course a day...
I got attracted to DataCamp because of the
Biomedical Image Analysis in Python and Image Processing in Python courses.
This is top quality content Tina...
More grease to your elbow💪💪💪
I'm signed up for 365 data science, and the materials for follow along with the videos makes the experience rich and practical. It will take months to go through it all. I just schedule my time for it as a 2 or 3 hour class everyday, and you rarely just sit there watching lectures. It's always making you use and implement every concept and topic. I'm just about 10% in, I'll try to give another update as I approach the 50% mark.
I'll be here to get your update. I am thinking about getting that course. Please help me. Cheers!
update plz
Hi Zett! How’s the program going? Mind providing an update?
Update
Hi zett , how is your experience with 365 so far? Would you recommend it?
Tina, I am currently doing data camp's data scientist with R program. After googling and searching youtube it feels 365 data science isn't part of the conversation on a large scale yet, so it has been hard to see what sets them apart. All review content seems geared towards data camp/data quest. Thanks for this.
Lawrence , what's your review of data camp ?
Did it helped you to make a career transition or gain knowledge .
I found it's content overview as a basic to start with with less than 20-30 hours of content for each module .
What's your review over it .
I was under same impression about data 365 exposure here on UA-cam .
I'd suggest to buy the 365 Datascience one for the statistics part. It's totally worth it.
What's the consensus here, which one would y'all go for?
Hello, I have a question that Is it possible for first-year university students can get an internship in the data science or machine learning field? Thanks !!!
Is ther any bonus choose like Data Camp over 365 Data Science for the certificate
why do you have the link to the monthly 365 subscription instead of the Udemy course??
Your videos really pumped me to become a data analyst. Very useful content!
I am a management student, but already studying SQL and Python libraries. Request you to please suggest a roadmap to become a data analyst. I am very much confused.
Thank you!
Which course or roadmap you picked up brother?
@@tushardhuri8738 I learnt the individual tools by myself, and continuing to learn.
Can you help out which tools you started with and what is your current scenario
It wil be of great help brother to new comers
Just what I was looking for... I need to coonect to you... Before I start with my master course in data science
Missed the live, looking forward to the highlights video
Dataquest is king!
Very interesting! Thank you for the review 👍
give me a discount, I'm poor
I like the depth but I think more projects are necessary
I am from a supply chain background, i am looking to hone my skills in data to enhance my skillsets in the field of the supply chain, so looking for courses where i will get hands-on experience on SQL and data visualization
Hey Tina, I'm new to your channel. For the electives for 365 data science, what courses should I do for the electives towards Data Analyst? Thanks!
Hi, did you find a roadmap to become a Data analyst?
I’m currently doing a degree in data science but they dont teach jack shit about practical applications. So much so, that I’ve kinda started forgetting what I already knew. Would you suggest datacamp as something that would be feasible for me to finish kinda quickly? Im already pretty good at python. So I’m gonna skip through that one. Pandas and numpy, i have used them before and its not like it will take me too long to understand the functions. What i see taking me the most time is machine learning which I already know a good amount about but I never really got a chance to dig deep into it
hey there!! I’m a big fan of Tinas videos too and love datacamp too - I’m a fellow data scientist who’s just getting started on UA-cam ☺️ posted my first day in the life video and it would mean so much if you could check it out!!
WHY DO I KEEP MISSING THESE LIVE :(
Yeah we watched live like from 3am from 5am straight why did you missed im your big fan
Same with me 😭
YOU MISSED THE SCREEN BLOOPER THO!!! 🥺🥺
Thanks Ken for dropping by 😃 I love your stuff since you're the first in the field whom I followed!!
Lol it's always a dilemma for me to check out the videos you post on Friday since Tina's stream would be going on at the same time 😂😂
Aww let’s do one together one day? :)
Thank you all so much for joining despite the awful timing D: will def do a time poll next time!!!
You definitely saved the best for last. 365 Data Science is truly amazing.
Isn't it the same for every course. It can teach you some concepts. But you need to create own things in order to fully comprehend it.
So whats the best?
365 data Science course on their website is same as the one on Udemy ?
Yea that seems odd to me too
Wait is it? They are 2 different prices
Please provide the udemy link
Will you do a review of the data related Udacity nanodegrees?
I took the ML Engineering Nanodegree while already working as Data Scientist. My impression is that they no worth the money for beginners because most of the exercises came directly from Kaggle and you can find them on GitHub. Advanced programs for a 1 - 2 years professional may worth it, for me it was useful as they explain me briefly software development concepts and practices which I didn't got clear before, got practice on more recent on demand technologies (AWS SageMaker) which lead me to discover trendy concepts like MLOps and ML Engineering roles; also their LinkedIn, Github and resume pimp up were truly game changers for me as I already had some years of experience and all I needed was selling my self better.
@@astaroth0316 thanks, this was super helpful

Hi Tina, I'm a highschool student. I was wondering your could recommend us about more Phyton and data scientist projects and the sources where to find them , but spefically for a high student like me.
I really want you to respond this 🙏🥺. Thanks you

@@candidlyvivian ok
can you please provide a summary? i missed the live...
Will do - might take me a week or two though because currently slammed with work unfortunately :(
no problem, take your time ♥️
is it even poosible to get a data scientist job regardless of commerce background
Thanks so much for supporting the channel! Sorry I didn't respond until break time. I give a detailed response during break in case you didn't catch it: ua-cam.com/video/DtwlKK2QnN8/v-deo.html. Click on timestamp for 2nd break :)

100% Dataquest >>>
ok total noobie here no coding experience at all. Soooo I would like to do something similar to taking data and finding areas in the data that would help a company save money. My family friend does this but is a bit too busy to help set me on the right path other than taking a udemy course lol. he told me to learn C# and Python. Out of these 3 courses should i just try them all or would 1 be better to start with? And then of course go project learning style. Where do you go to learn project style once I get to that stage? Thanks for the help!!
Have you figured out how to learn?

Hello Tina. I'm from Poland and I've tried to purchase the 365 Data Science Program with help of your discount coupon however, I see some mistakes in calculations there. Correct me if I'm wrong. $184 + 23% TAX = $226.32. With today's currency rate (USD/PLN) it's 897.73 PLN. However, on the bill, it's 952.41 PLN. So looks like you have a fixed currency rate there, which as of today makes this course $13,79 more expensive. Don't you think that these exchange rates should be pegged to some real data so that everybody would have the same chance to buy the product for the same discount? Could you fix it, please?
I'd recommend to buy on the discount day.
Udemy sometimes give a discount day where every courses price is reduced to under 20$ at that day
Idk when exactly the discount day is, but they will send an email & notification about it
She’s giving you a discount code the exchange rate is controlled by the merchant. Email them.
Codecademy or datacamp in data science carrer paths :)
Timestamp where she takes about Datacamp please ???????

Can someone give me the summary which is the best course .
Datacamp - not good, too much hand holding

I just discovered you... 😁😁
What are you studying at the moment?

Also complete the first free chapter and you will get really heavy discounts on datacamp... I get the offer of 99$ after the first chapter rather than 399$ yearly...
Awesome tip!!
Students get 3 month free access to datacamp by signing in for a GitHub student developer account... You can use your friends account if you need more for free... not everyone wants to be in data science😅
Just in case anyone missed this.

I’m 15 and I’m good at tech, is joining FAANG worth it or should I become rich building an app or game business myself like Mark Zuckerburg and CEO’s?
Lol
