It's not only for the South. Many of us that live in the "North" can do all the things he mentions in this. It's more of an Anthem for us "Country Folk". We're all over America!
This song is about being self sufficient and being in tune with nature in ways that city folk usually aren't. Country boys are everywhere across the world. They are the people that live close to nature and don't need to rely on the government, grocery stores or anyone else to give them or make available to them, the things they need to survive. They take responsibility for themselves and their families.
I was born, grew up, and still live in the mountains of rural Alabama; I grew up in the woods, shooting guns, building shelters, fishing, you name it. Though I'm a metalhead at heart (a rarity in these parts), I do appreciate other genres of music. Hank William's, Jr. has a great voice and in this song paints an excellent picture of what life was/is like in the rural South. I have lived in a city for a time, but you simply can't beat living out in the countryside...the freedom, the hospitality, the nature makes for an amazing experience.
I never considered myself "country " out here on the navajo rez but I can relate to his lyrics. Ran off to the city for the experience and go to school for engineering had fun, but the woods and mountains called me home. 500 years of genocide, we still here! Natives can survive! Lol!
Hank Jr’s music style is like a combo of country and southern rock. So definitely popular in the south, but he’s pretty well known for doing the theme for Monday Night Football here in the states. That would be American football btw. And yes there is a Hank III, which would be Hank Jr’s son.
Hank Jr. Mr. Lincoln, I've got rights, Wild and Blue, Blues Man, Family Tradition..ect.. ect.. saw him in concert here in North Carolina almost 30 years ago.. great stage show.. he was permanently banned from Greensboro Coliseum because he pulled his Ruger .45's shot straight up at the ceiling, pieces of debris from the ceiling came falling down..he was arrested.. my wife to be was at that concert..Epic
Hank Jr. is one of my favorites. He is also a very blunt and straightforward man who speaks what is on his mind. And he does not apologize for who he is. Good guy with good songs.
Born to boogie, Feelin better, my name is bocephus, all my rowdy friends are coming over tonight, Tennessee, uncle pen. Whiskey bent and hell bound. Family tradition... so many good songs
I am a 4th generation Texan and oddly enough, Hispanic. My dad loved Beethoven, Queen, Yoko Ono, Merle, and Hank William Jr. I remember him playing "Attitude Adjustment " on 8-track. I'd love to see someone react to this song.
I'm originally from Tennessee & my Daddy taught me how to hunt, skin a buck, run a trout line, & make moonshine. My family settled in Tennessee back when it was forbidden by King George 3. Although I'm college educated now, if I had to survive, I know how. Hopefully, that never happens. My ancestors were Scots Irish.
This is Hank Williams Jr He is the son of Hank Williams a legendary country singer from the 1940s and 1950s and the first country singer to write and perform songs about real difficult life (cheating girlfriends, depression etc). They called Hank Jr "Bocephus".

Hank Sr. was an absolute giant of country music who passed way too young. Hank Jr has included in song how difficult it was to be the son of an icon and develop his own style. This is my favorite of his.
Hank Williams, Sr. has a ton of hit songs. He wrote his own material and the lyrics of his songs are so good, he has been called the hillbilly Shakespeare. He had a genius for the use of the language. There are so many it is hard to pick one, but I guess my favorite is Singing the Blues. It has his famous riff Han, Jr. did it differently , but he can also write and sing great songs.
Some people may look down the "Southern, or hillbilly way of life. They usually will tell you to shove it. Because many are proud of the life they have built.

Hank jr. was in a real bad accident when he was young (I think in his 20's). He was hunting on Ajax mountain with his friend and his friends teenage son. Hank was walking on the mountain when the ground (Rocks or snow , I don't remember) gave way and started sliding down the side of the mountain. He was sliding fast and couldn't stop. He tried to dig his heels in the ground until suddenly he shot up in the air and landed on his face , all the while sliding out of control. He continued sliding fast on his stomach and face till he crashed face first into a boulder. He was still concious and he remembers pushing parts of his Brain back into his head. He says he'll never forget the sound it made pushing it back in his head. The teenage boy had to stay with him till Hank's friend got help. His eye was hanging out. Part of his forehead was gone. His nose was gone. They had to reconstruct his face. That's why the beard and sunglasses.
I remember when that happened. I think he fell like 200 ft or something. There was a movie made about him and his comeback after the accident (Living Proof)starring Richard Thomas.
My favorite song, I will always watch a reveiw. Try Whiskey Bent and Hellbound or Family Tradition. Another great outlaw country song is Copperhead Road by Steve Earle.

It's an anthem for country folks who are self sufficient & know how to live off the land, what mother nature provides. We know how to handle guns & defend ourselves. If you think this is an anthem for the south then you weren't paying attention to the lyrics.
I recently watched an interview, where they were talking to city folks about the economy and such. One woman said that if things get bad, that they would all just come to the small southern towns and take their stuff. She said "because we're street smart." I was sitting there thinking, "please do....please come to my town. She doesn't know we all have guns and we WILL use them. They would run with their tails tucked between their legs." We don't play in TN, or any other southern state. We can do everything he sings about and so much more. Once you learn to live off the land, you can completely go off the grid. Not many city slickers could do that.
Do not underestimate the southern rural country folks. There are a many of people that have disappeared in the hills and mountains of TN, KY, WV, GA, NC. As well as in the swamps of Louisiana and Mississippi. And they don't need guns and ammo to do it, either. I would not advise crossing one of them. Because when you mess with one, you will have to take on many, many more of them. A lot of disappearances are blamed on the wild life. Many times, it is not the wild life that is to blame.
I've heard all my life that "The South will Rise again" the Communists are tearing down Confederate statues, where are the Rebels? What are they waiting for?

We don't play in TN, or any other southern state.
@@dwashington1333 No one is acting stupid in my state and ain't nobody tearing down stuff lol
@@dwashington1333 I don't really know either. I keep waiting for the gun toting white supremacist to show up at a BLM protest. They seem to have been very quiet during all this.

There's another Williams out there --Jet Williams, born five days after her dad. She's the stepsister of Hank Jr. I still don't think he has admitted she is indeed a child of his dad.
More JR please.
Hank the 3rd is really good too
You might like "Outlaw Women" by Hank Williams Jr. & "Country Hero's" by Hank Williams III.
Yep most folks think of us as somehow backwards or stupid but when or if shit hits the fan me and mine will be surviving just fine while whole city's kill each other for a can of beans moreover we can and will defend our homes and each other with a passion only Shakespeare could understand
Yup! Louisiana all my life and my daddy taught me how to hunt, fish, garden and survive before i learned to ride a bike! Hated all the lessons back then but I’m glad now with the way the world is these days!
