    The Skullcandy Crusher Evo is an interesting headset. It was surprising in a few ways, but one thing is certain: if you want deep, rumbling bass, these are worth a look.

    These are obviously not hifi, but they're very competent cans (if quite bassy) with the bass slider turned off. I have them as more of a novelty than anything, but I find myself using them a LOT on my commute, since even without ANC they have good noise isolation and the heavy bass actually has a point when the trains and ferries I ride on drown out low tones. It's one reason why every "wireless" headphone meant for everyday use is so bassy. They sound a lot better out and about than they do in a quiet room, where background brings their bass-heavy sound down a bit.
    I only have a few complaints - I wish the earcups were a bit bigger. I have a normal sized adut male head with normal sized ears and they are just a bit tight. And comfort is only about 2-3 hours before I have to take them off. They have a kinda nasty static/bass POP when they first connect to an audio source that can be really irritating, but I just don't put them on my head before turning them on. And the REALLY big complaint is that while they have a 3.5mm jack, when they're powered off, the haptic motors don't work. And if they're powered on, the motors work, but a 3.5mm cable being plugged in causes a horrific EMF screech and wine that makes them completely unusable wired + powered on. With the power off, they sound just like they do with the bass slider at zero over 3.5mm.
    Still, these things are a riot, make movies super exciting, and give me a lot of nostalgia for being a teenager again in my buddy's beat to hell honda civic with a couple 12 inch subs in the trunk. Everyone I let try mine, I set the bass slider to zero and tell them to slide it up as they listen. Everyone giggles and laughs.

    • @NorbReviews
      @NorbReviews  2 роки тому +1

      First, FANTASTIC write up. Bravo!
      Second: the EMF screech is something I got, too! I thought it was just an issue with mine (and I thought I mentioned it, although I may have edited that out). Interesting that it wasn’t just my set.

    Quick question need asap response:
    With max volume, and the bass slider all the way up, does 20-40hz sound distorted?
    I had the original 2016 Crushers, and they don't go below 40hz, they distort.

      Can’t answer that for you, my apologies. I’m in the middle of a move and don’t have access to them, so I can’t test right now. Also, I avoided max volume + bass all the way up for anything but a peek because it physically hurt me to have the volume + bass that high.

      1. if you turn the bass all the way down, the headphones have a very neutral sound. I very much enjoyed the ability to get either an neutral response or a bass-heavy response that these gave me in that regard.
      2. The bass comes from vibration, but it’s definitely bass. As someone who plays bass (specifically double bass), I thought the combination of sound and vibration were mostly enjoyable.

    I got mine this week. (7/6/2023). Listened to music, watched movies and took them to the gym. If you don't go crazy on the bass, they are just as clear as any headphones under $250. Turning up the bass to just 25-30%, they sound more like speakers and a big subwoofer than anything. Movie soundtracks and old school hip hop just SLAMMED. I can't imagine 50% let alone all the way up. It already felt like I was working out in a dance club. I got them on sale. I have ANC in other headphones, and they have poor battery life. I'd rather have no ANC and long battery life for the gym. Also, I like the sound isolation.

    5:20 I have a question about this. I do want to buy them. What volume where you listening at? I don't plan on listening at 100%. Are they doing that even at lower volumes with the bass up?

    • @NorbReviews
      @NorbReviews  2 роки тому +1

      Hi ViperRo, and thanks for watching.
      I vary the volume I listen at. These don’t have noise canceling, so some sound gets in, meaning a higher volume than in normally would with ANC headphones. I routinely listen anywhere from 10% to 60%, with sometimes going as high as 70%, but not often and not for long. Rarely do I go beyond that, usually just to test. (I want to protect my hearing!) I’m usually at around 50%.
      Still, the level of extra bass (via haptic feedback) is controlled by the slider on the side, separate (mostly) from the main volume.
      Short of it, these won’t have loud bass if you don’t want them to. They’re comfortable to listen to, and the bass boost is completely adjustable. Without it, they have a very neutral sound. You don’t have to worry about the bass being too loud if you don’t want it to at all.

      Depends on what kind of bass you like. First off it’s important to note that, buying the crusher wireless is not the best option now- it’s better to opt for the crusher evos, their sound profile is all around much superior. (And the fit is kind of bad on the original crusher wireless).You can find a good deals for $99 online btw. These headphones deliver that feeling of an extremely loud car driving down the road. Know those cars whose music shakes the ground around them? Yeah that’s the closest way to describe the sound on the headphones. If you prefer the more delicate bass of your Sony’s I wouldn’t suggest going for the crusher evo’s. BUT if you want to try something new and fun go. for. it. Hope this helps!

      I know that, in my iPhone, the system by default won’t record from the connected Bluetooth headphone’s mic. What I’ve done is downloaded an app that will allow me to switch the source. In my case, this is the “Teleprompter for Video” app, but others like “MoviePro” will also let you do this.

    Why would having the bass slider turned up damage the hearing ? Isnt the entire point that they vibrate and dont really on volume to create the bass ?

    • @NorbReviews
      @NorbReviews  Рік тому +1

      Simple question, complex answer.
      1. The haptic vibration shouldn’t hurt your hearing. However, the vibration may actually impact the cilia in your ears, but that would be rare and extreme (which is what I was alluding to).
      2. Normally, bass wouldn’t generally contribute to hearing loss. Usually it’s frequencies higher than 4K. Of course, any sound that’s loud enough for long enough can damage hearing. Again, doesn’t quite apply to the haptic feedback here.
      So in this one, I just said what I felt at the time, but it’s arguably incorrect, and you have my apologies.
      I do hope you enjoyed the rest of the video, however.

      @@NorbReviews I enjoyed it a lot ! In fact I bought them for 80€ in good condition second hand :D. Gaming with them yesterday was a blast ! Played Ground breach with the bass slider maybe 1/3 up. Perfect ! It gives the guns the meaty sound there lacking.
      Also listening to DNB allstars was super fun ^^. You really get that resonating bass effect from being in a club.
      I can also say that setting a comfortable volume and then cranking the bass slider feels like it gets louder ! But how one would measure this without measuring the vibration ? I have no idea...
      Another quirk I found :
      When direct monitoring my self over my scarlett 2i2. It feels like hearing double. There is a slight delay between bass response of the drivers compared to the haptic feedback. (I confirmed this by trying it with the bass slider off as well as trying my IEM's)
      Never mind ! It actually even happens with the haptic bass off:o.
      Very cool product, defnitely reccommend it to anyone who really likes to feel bass :D

I did use the Skullcandy for the gym, and that was fine, but I also didn’t do a ton of jumping around. Still, the Beats was lighter, and I can see preferring those for the gym. Plus, the Beats have noise canceling, which is a HUGE bonus for me in the gym. (Obviously, if you go with the Crusher ANC then this levels the playing field.)
      They both have replaceable earpads, and if you’re prone to ear heat or just don’t like sweat there, I’d definitely switch them out.
      If I were choosing one of these two for the gym, I’d probably do the Studio 3 because of the way they’re shaped (less bulk) and the weight distribution (for exercises where you lay down), but it’s a coin flip, to be honest. Outside of the gym, I’d prefer the Skullcandy.
      Side note: I’ve actually been using the Project Rock JBL headphones for the gym. They’re decent, sound great, and have noise canceling. (Plus, I found mine for like $80, so you can definitely find them on the cheap.) So you might want to consider those. But I don’t think they have replaceable earpads. (The earpads are part leather part fabric, BTW, which I think works really well.) They also have a full swivel from front to back, which is normally great, but for workout headphones, it’s a problem when you’re laying down during exercises.
      You know, I think I might do a couple of videos of my experience with headphones at the gym. Thanks for the idea!

    So you are incorrect about these damaging your ears. the Crusher EVO use 'haptic' feedback...just like a gamepad vibration or a smart phone vibration. It 'vibrates ' your head...not you internal physiology.

      Hi Scott, and thanks for watching. Anything that vibrates your head enough threatens to damage the delicate structures of the inner ear. Ultimately, in my case, using this too high for too long with certain types of music caused a lot of fatigue and became very uncomfortable. My advice was simply not to use it too high for too long. Happy listening!

      Yeah, unless you want a RIDICULOUS amount of bass, there are better options for the price. The Beats Studio 3 get a bad rap, but sound pretty good (just not worth the $300+ MSRP IMHO).
