I have the feeling that Hasbro has started to rethink the leader class again: Tall/big figures don't matter, but weight, detail, scalability with other figures and playability are what they are going for now.
Wing Dagger Yes, my thoughts exactly. Studio Series is a benchmark for scalability for Has/Tak, and they’re bringing that sense of scale over into the G1-verse side of things.
Agreed and I really like that. I'd rather have a heftier, more detailed figure that scales properly than a larger more hollow figure where scale is questionable.
Production cost control and all that business jazz aside. I like it. While I understand the appeal of lining up giant shiny robots on your shelf, I prefer collecting characters that scale together properly.
That's pretty sick how that spine piece works with the bumper. I've never seen it on a transformer before and it's pretty creative! Hope to see more like it! Also, I think that you could leave the legs guns attached. They're "holstered".
Magnus' trailer is basically a kit that upgrades his basic Robot Mode, so you get the Magnus everybody knows, and loves. I think that's a really cool idea from Hasbro, to make Ultra Magnus. It's similar to the concept for Titans Return Optimus Prime, and Rodimus Prime, where the trailers become the main robot shell, that combines with the basic figure, in order to create the larger figure.
This might be my favourite official Ultra Magnus figure ever. The core robot is solid and the combined form is so cohesive and cool. It retains everything that made the G1 toy feel special and modernises it.
Man I was lucky enough to find this guy at my local EB Games and man I have to say I am LOVING this Leader Class Ultra Magnus. He is just bad ass looking and looks great with Sideswipe and Hound. Transformation is fun. Great engineering. A lot of thought was put into this figure. Love it. Love it. Love it. I can’t put the damn thing down.
I love this toy! As a newbie modifier... It delights me that the back kibble ( the blue part ) can be removed, easily.. Nice plain, none distracting white backdrop. Voice ain't obnoxious... Detailed but not too long... At least in my opinion.. Thanks for the early review & good job sir!
Watching this transformation I was reminded of the video Fansproject made for their City Commander armor and I could see this transformation be done in the Cybertron transformation style.
looks great. Really like the whole rail thing to get the front end out of the way. I guess it also means it's removable? If so it could really open up upgrade kits for a more G1 front end (not that I dislike the RiD look)
That's what i was thinking. Why has no reviewer removed it yet? Seems like the logical choice since the whole thing is a partsformer anyway, and that thing is hideous.
Since I'm more of a UM fan the most of the other autobots, someone will make a upgrade kit to turn this into god magnus from RiD. It would be cool to see a galaxy convoy in this line....
The black guns are an homage to the bits on the side of RiD Ultra Magnus's truck cab. They actually weren't really guns, but were where you plugged the gun onto him to change the sound effects for the various modes.
I like this. As for the reduced height...uhh...anybody remember Studio Series Blackout? (Except he had a fairly decent alt mode size) But yeah, the robot mode seems like he'd scale perfectly with Springer, Arcee, PotP Hot Rod (as Rodimus), TR Hot Rod (as Hot Rod, and give him Siege Firedrive), either TR or Generations Kup, maybe Generations Blurr, and Siege or Classics Optimus. Pretty decent sounding G1 season 3 lineup (season 4 if you include the Headmasters).
While this one seems a good deal for a leader price point unlike Shockwave, im hoping 3p will give us some new armor legs that add some more height, not only for scale (For me Magnus should be bigger) but also for proportion i think longer legs would just look better.
Well, Magnus ain't that much bigger than Prime or Springer to begin with. But the proportions would benefit from a redo of the inner robot legs. I'd like to see a 3P armor set that retains the G1 look of robot mode, but has the ability to function like the old trailers...store a Deluxe or two inside (at least store a Legends or two), and be able to move about in turning.
@@DragoonMS Ok now that ive got it in hand i can say the main issue with the proportions stem from the apron helmet. With all the armor but the Head/chest the proportions work wonderfully. The head apron thing make him look fat.
I honestly don't mind the new leader class sizes ... the thing is, I really like how they scale better than the GIGANTIC leader class figures of the past.
Wait a second. They’re doing the WFC Trilogy like Studio Series. Releasing the different price points as figures that scale well with each other. ...Guess this means the Minibots won’t exist this time. So... no Bee?
Definitely the much better display of adding volume. Shockwave was more adding body horror. I love they aren't afraid of partsforming anymore (and actually embraced it in to six shotian extremes). Glad they went IDW with the old version, he might survive my next purge.
that little starburst bit on the yellow effect part does come off, and that lets it fit into most peg holes just fine. doesn't look quite as nice, but it still looks basically fine
I got really lucky and got mine at my local Target on 12/31. He is a LOT OF FUN! with Cog. Looks really cool with the over the should “Cog Murder backpack” and the main Silver gun can become a monster
At 12:55 Man, they did such a great job at engineering and I love the armor playability (just like when I was a kid playing with the original '86 Ultra Magnus), but if only the trailer part of the vehicle mode had looked more G1ish than with RID, then this would have been a perfect CHUG Ultra Magnus. I also miss being about to store the other Autobot Cars in his trailer. The sliding rail on the back is quite ingenious. Have we seen that on an official Hasbro product lately? Seems very 3rd party-like. =P At 17:23 That's the money shot right there. Awesome! Great review!
I laughed when you made the laser gun sounds at the end of the video which makes me feel a little bit better I occasionally pick up a transformer toy of mine
Well this is interesting. They went with callback to his G1 toy which I think is nice. That said I don't think that that white background worked well when you showed that Ultra Magnus' mostly white base mode.
The camera was cutting off half of Magnus' inner robot's head the whole time... And most of the combined mode too. There is such a thing called zoom...
I walked into target last night and saw him. I was jumping for joy. Then i saw the price. Holy hell, this thing is $50? It seems like they increase prices fpr the figures every generation
I had the old G1 Magnus, and even I think the missile pods sit too high on Siege Magnus the way the instructions show. Maybe swapping them around so the peg is on top, even if it looks too low and blocks the arms a bit.
I can't wait to see what they do with the leaders in the future as I've always been a fan of armor on figures but I like my combiner wars Magnus to much.
as of this comment TFSOURCE still only has it on pre-order, despite retail markets and hasbro themselves having it in stock. And I'd be considerably less perturbed if I had thought of putting it in the stack when I pre-ordered it rather than paying up front. Oh well.
Yeah I'm taking the battle damage off. Aside from the front bumper and the chest most of it should be easy. I'll also be ditching the black guns, lol. I'm personally glad he's smaller than the CW Ultra Magnus because I think he'll scale better on my shelf with the other Voyagers and my Fansproject Rodimus Prime. I still use him because the POTP Rodimus, while pretty awesome is just too big for my '86 collection, so this UM being a little bigger than my Springer is pretty excellent. Same with the Shockwave. I like that his basic robot mode is smaller than the new Megatron, i don't think his armor justifies a Leader class price point but I'll be getting him for sure.
I might be in the minority here, but this makes me want to go find the Universe Ultra Magnus more. Lemme explain: Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated with the core robot to Ultra Magnus. Hasbro never dealt with the fact that it was a separate robot from the armored version until the Universe line, even though the Japanese version made that clear the whole time. As a result, due to my fascination with just the white robot, his armor is kinda secondary to me. There's just a lot of stuff on this Ultra Magnus that while not necessarily bad, makes me feel like it doesn't fit for me. The biggest is that his 'trailer' does nothing else besides form the armor, and it's more 'the rest of the truck' than a trailer. Unlike Shockwave, the extra bits don't form a base mode or reconfigure into something. Second, the smaller version is effectively a Deluxe, which is kinda disappointing given that he'll probably be displayed as the smaller guy for me most of the time. All that being said, on his own, this guy seems pretty dope. Just not for me...
What are you considering the Universe Ultra Magnus? IIRC the Universe line had a repaint of RID Magnus and a repaint of Armada Optimus Prime. Are you referring to the Armada one? Also, the cab transformed without the armor is clearly almost as tall as the voyager Optimus Prime -that's not what I'd call "effectively a Deluxe."
The Universe line had an Ultra Magnus that was a redeco of another redeco of Classics Optimus. He wound up in the Universe line because it was a Target exclusive 2-pack with an exclusive Skywarp. That was the one that he refers to that used the City Commander armor. The core robot is a head shorter than the Voyager Prime, and he's also not real big. Compare him to POTP Prime, where Orion was actually bigger than a Voyager, and it's more obvious. I'm by no means saying it's a bad figure, it just isn't what I'm looking for.
IIRC the figure you mention was technically in the Classics line. It may have come back around in Universe packaging though. And both lines had product on the shelves at the same time so it's not a big deal. For me I was more wondering which one you liked more than I was trying to nitpick over whether it said "Universe" or "Classics" packaging. I still wish I had gotten that Ultra Magnus version of Armada Prime.
Great review, I love the design but I wish he was a bit bigger in bot mode, I dont think he's going to replace my LG Magnus It would be nice if someone in China started bootlegging those effect parts
Have you found a way to make a hammer from Magnus' weapons? Hasbro hinted that he was going to have one either from his weapons or from a latter BattleMaster or MicroMaster Pair.
I like the fact that the figures feel heavier and less hollow, but the leaders are way too small this time. And the options on where to put the guns, in simply the lamest gimmick they could come up with for a new line.
Their plan was to go light on the gimmicks this time so they could go all out on the engineering for transformations, which I think is a good enough reason.
Also quick question I have siege Megatron and Optimus I noticed Megatron is bigger and taller than Prime. In g1 they're about the same size but in different incarnations of the shows megs is usually a bit bigger idky
the leg armor equipping reminds me of the City Commander leg armor. also have you tried to equip the magnus armor to the Optimus Prime from this series and get Omega Prime
Is Ultra Magnus supposed to be bigger than Optimus Prime ? That seems not quite right if I remember g1 they're the same height/size as was Rodimus Prime same height as both of them
Honestly even though I think it's almost too "parts-former-y" I'll give it a pass because that's the aesthetic of seige anyway, and also there's some damn fine engineering tricks on display here.
I have the feeling that Hasbro has started to rethink the leader class again: Tall/big figures don't matter, but weight, detail, scalability with other figures and playability are what they are going for now.

Agreed and I really like that. I'd rather have a heftier, more detailed figure that scales properly than a larger more hollow figure where scale is questionable.
But Shockwave still seems too small for a Leader class...
Shame we can’t have both size and heft like before. :/
Production cost control and all that business jazz aside. I like it.

The spine slider is a simple yet surprisingly neat and effective engineering.
I know! It's so simple, yet so awesome.
That's pretty sick how that spine piece works with the bumper. I've never seen it on a transformer before and it's pretty creative! Hope to see more like it!
Also, I think that you could leave the legs guns attached. They're "holstered".
I have seen that sort of transformation before. I believe Armada Overload has a similar sliding transformation.
Never expected Hasbro to ever go back to the Albino Prime and trailer armour gimmick.
Yeah
Me too. I'm having a hard time imagining Magnus as anyone except Minimus Ambus
I kinda like it, but I also played with the G1 model back in the day.
I saw it happening because of the toy's history and it will likely be used for Optimus later in the line.
nostalgia
Is it just me or is the audio off?
Yeahhh kinda annoying
Yeah its off
Definitely off by like a second or so at least.
I thought it was just me because I had to restart UA-cam
Now that you mention it,yeah.

It's similar to the concept for Titans Return Optimus Prime, and Rodimus Prime, where the trailers become the main robot shell, that combines with the basic figure, in order to create the larger figure.
Looks like they took a pretty strong cue from the G1 Ultra Magnus.
Rumor is that the leader figures in Seige were at least initially conceptualized to be in power of the primes, hence the similar gimmick.
I love how the vehicle mode is RID/Car Robots and the robot mode is G1. I want this.
Yes!! I was just going to mention this.
I love that this is, like, an evolution of the Power of the Primes leader concept but refined, and with the extra Siege paint applications.
AJ Universe Considering that UM was on that fan poll, no surprise it would carry over to here.
This might be my favourite official Ultra Magnus figure ever. The core robot is solid and the combined form is so cohesive and cool. It retains everything that made the G1 toy feel special and modernises it.
Damn, that cab got all FansProject Code on us.

its the best Ultra Magnus retail released figure to date
Watching this transformation I was reminded of the video Fansproject made for their City Commander armor and I could see this transformation be done in the Cybertron transformation style.
The sound seems off to me
Here I am thinking my wireless headset has issues. So I'm not alone!
Looking into it.
@@peaugh bless you my main man 👊
The sound seems to be delayed
peaugh thanks man I did enjoy the video though
looks great.
It isn't removable because there's a "stopper" on the bumper piece to prevent it popping off i believe.
It slides up and all the way off the butt though, if u slide it up before the rail is in place, it seems like u could take it off?
I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Hell yeah
Since I'm more of a UM fan the most of the other autobots, someone will make a upgrade kit to turn this into god magnus from RiD. It would be cool to see a galaxy convoy in this line....

Good i thought i was just going crazy.

Man, Hasbro went full on Fansproject here - and it works. They even added FP's Function X Chromedome sliding hood trick.
This looks like it could replace my (KO) FP City Commander for the CHUG display
UM’s my favorite Transformer, and the crown jewel of Wave 1 for me. Seeing all the positive reviews for this makes me even more hyped to get it.
I honestly don't mind the new leader class sizes ... the thing is, I really like how they scale better than the GIGANTIC leader class figures of the past.

I always liked "White Optimus" Ultra Magnus so I'm glad there is a new one out.
At long last,Albino Prime has returned.
I love these siege figures they are the best line Hasbro has brought out in years
Great review as always! I am absolutely loving this line so far. It's already made most of my CHUG figures obsolete, lol!
Good Review. I haven't watched a Transformers review in a while
How did you remove the battle damage marks from Prime?
Found him at Target today! Wow....so stoked. haven't opened him yet. Want to watch peaugh's review first!

Easily a must get if had the money handy for him. Yep I do see God Magnus in this alt form.
Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus was a very "IDW Comics" look (I mean, he had Minimus Ambus inside the armor!). This is more of a G1 Magnus.
The camera was cutting off half of Magnus' inner robot's head the whole time... And most of the combined mode too. There is such a thing called zoom...

I personally got shockwave over magnus, but only because I like the charter better. I do still plan on getting magnus at some point however.

Looks nice, but I'll probably skip this and the Voyager OP for the Optimus Prime retool of this.
We need a blast effect accessory pack, hasbro toy shop exclusive.
Have you found a way to make a hammer from Magnus' weapons? Hasbro hinted that he was going to have one either from his weapons or from a latter BattleMaster or MicroMaster Pair.
Looks like IDW is using this mould as the design for Optimus i the reboot.
Yeah I saw that too. It's probably just gonna be his Cybertronian design. I wouldn't be surprised if they used the Siege designs for the comic.
You should put the little rockets on the back of the silver gun (that's what I did).
Dang! I'm definitely going to get this guy!
I like the fact that the figures feel heavier and less hollow, but the leaders are way too small this time. And the options on where to put the guns, in simply the lamest gimmick they could come up with for a new line.

If they are truly changing the scale of leader class then they better redo all the leaders like sixshot, overlord, rodimus, powermaster prime.
I cant wait to get this.
I think you have your CW Magnus slightly mis-transformed in the back of the trailer with the feet.
Don’t get me wrong this is great but it really want to see a power master Prime retool of this
seige line actually fuckin dope
Hopefully I'll be able to find one here in Hamilton Ontario Canada
Been looking forward to this one!
I want to see this as Thunderclash or Hyperdrive.
Awesome review!! I’m still watching but can Optimus fit the cab?
the leg armor equipping reminds me of the City Commander leg armor. also have you tried to equip the magnus armor to the Optimus Prime from this series and get Omega Prime
Would ultra magus look like this in the g1 cartoon as a cybertronian form
The way this figure is constructed there is no way there won’t be 3rd party armors to change his look.
i hope we get a re-mastered rid omega prime someday
I'm going to bypass all of these and just go for the Target/Micromasters
Reminds me of rid magnus!!
Next: Greenlight.
Honestly, I prefer this to add in my collection. He has the best play value compare to Shockwave.
Was hoping for a marvel comics accurate power master Optimus Prime remold.
The audio is off by a few seconds
what sucks is that these will be like 70-75 dollars in Canada
I could care less about the figures. But the compatible blast effects are rad.
There's gotta be a market in the blast effects alone, right?
can the two black guns attached on either side of the silver blaster
i like how he can be rid to g1
Audio is about 1 1/2 seconds behind the video.
He looks great! If you want more blast effects check out Grimlock's Forge on Facebook. He's making his own from the mold.
Audio is off by a couple seconds but it's fine.
Audio needs to be fixed, but otherwise great review!
