- Shiny Mewtwo statistically arrives after quite a lot of time! I never really saw myself doing a Gen 1 hunt a year or two ago but I decided that with my 100th in mind, I’d bite the bullet & try it out. I’ll complain about this style of hunting in a sec’, first of all; This is my 100th live shiny special and there will be many more to come, don’t worry. I really like how it looks in Gen 2 and it’s for sure a super rare thing to claim. I decided to revisit the original game that I started with in Yellow for the ultimate prize in that game. I literally couldn’t be happier with this. It took a while but I’m delighted with the outcome. What a prize.
Okay, so this style of hunting let me talk about it for a second. If you didn’t know, Gen 1 can generate shinies based on the stats/DVs that a Pokémon has when sending it to either Gen 2 or Gen 7 as I explain in this video. Essentially what this entitles is you resetting the game until you get a specific spread of stats for any given Pokémon (Only Gift, Safari, Glitch and Fishing can be shiny iirc). This for me at least was just boring and it’s honestly something that I don’t think I’ll be doing again. You’re not looking for sparkles, but stats. It’s really not for me in the long term but I’m glad I can say I’ve done at least one hunt in Gen 1. I much, much prefer the sprite appearing shiny in front of me but to each their own, I guess. I respect everyone and anyone who can do this consistently.
The chance of the shiny is interestingly still a 1/8192 chance if you’re curious and as I result, I decided not to send this upwards to Gen 7 where Mewtwo is huntable with a base 1/4096 chance. I do not wish to devalue it.
All in all, do I recommend Gen 1 hunting? Not really. I’d honestly say only do it if you have a special affinity for Gen 1 or 2 and you appreciate how rare shiny legendaries are in Gen 2 where they are not even available without a Gen 1 trade. That said, give it a try & see what you think. I am but a simple individual with an opinion that may differ from yours.
This hunt was partly inspired by the announcement of the Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back-Evolution movie. I rewatched the first movie and thought, it's time to get a Mewtwo in the original games.

gen 1 hunts are awesome ive tried this hunt but then usum came out os i hunted mewtwo in those games but then i kept saving the hunt for later and then lgpe came out so i hunted it there and got it in lgpe so i may hunt kabuto or omanyte in gen 1

Funny thing, my first shiny in Silver was a damn HootHoot. After it evolved I realized Ash had a shiny Noctowl in the show. I felt like the chosen one in that very moment.
Funny thing, my first shiny in SoulSilver was a damn Gyarados. So much hard to find it

you can clone items in the RBY games. yellow's method is much different compared to B&R.

I realize this video is completed but for anyone else watching~ A time saving tip... You could trade yourself a Mewtwo from another game. Then you wouldn't have to sit through the pokedex entry being recorded after the capture!

You should send it to gen 7. You can manipulate the nature with the exp, and you would have the nice GB stamp on your shiny Mewtwo ;)

@@snazsnazi9853 Each nature is associated to the last two xp values a pokemon has when its traded 00-99. Google should be able to give you all the natures and what your xp has to end with for each one.

Kyu mic tbh it doesn’t seem the most tedious farm he has done, especially when you compare to roaming beats or birds on gen 3
For me it took me two days to get it done. every thing else took me about two weeks in total for each bird. Moltres about eight days.
I promise you he didn't reset 14,000+ times.

Honestly, never would've expected this to be your 100th hunt. I had suspicions it'd be something special, but with how frequent your updates were on twitter, I'd ruled out Colosseum Shadows and Roamers, completely forgetting about this endeavor. Massive congrats for pulling through the strain!

I love watching these types of hunts. It’s amazing how many different ways there are of hunting. It must’ve been grueling soft resetting to get the stats right. Great job!
It wouldn’t devalue in gen 7 as all VC games have a little game boy icon on the transferred Pokemon, showing where it came from

So THIS was the dreaded hunt I've seen on Twitter! Congrats on 100 shinies, and the Gen 1 Mewtwo! I could've swore when you said this was a very tedious hunt that was the Manaphy XD
I think gen 1 hunting has it's merits.
I like the fact that you don't know until you look at the stats and line them up and seeing it finally sparkle when you transfer it is super cool.
Gen 1 hunting is unique too. I like doing it if I ever get bored of normal hunting but it isn't something anyone would do often I don't think.

That's awesome! I, too, shiny hunted not just Mewtwo, but the three legendary birds as well. I got Articuno in 6215 SRs, Zapdos in an extremely lucky 716 SRs, Moltres in 4128, and Mewtwo in a whopping 18,593 SRs.
How many hours would you estimate that at?

@@danielharith9358 soft reset. Pressing a+b+start+select at the same time so that you reset your game. Not deleting it you just end up at the start screen again

Dwaine Woolley its according to stats, i think every pokemon in gen 1 has a combination of stats that make it a shiny in other generations that have them

Stat-match hunting sounds brutal, because you only know of success/failure after it’s caught! I would lose steam quick doing it this way, major props on your work and efforts! 👍🏻👍🏻 I personally love silver, most of my top poke’ favorites, I can acquire just going through the story, so it’s a solid replay for me❤️

There aren't, but some randomly are shiny when you trade to gold silver and crystal.

There aren’t generation 1 shinies in the sense that they appear shiny. But if the stats line up with a shiny match, when you trade it to a different generation game, it will be shiny.

Very nice! The hardest hunt for me was one of my first ones that I still have and that would be Mewtwo from Fire Red. It took just under 9000 resets
So that's where the hint 'yellow' came from ^^ Really thought it would be a yellow shiny ^^

The fact that I can transfer a Pokemon from a game from 1999 to a one from 2013 through Pokemon Bank is so awesome and the reason I will probably to the same and hunt a shiny Mewtwo on my 3DS. This is amazing like one of the greatest things in my life for sure*

Sending it to Gen 7 wouldn't devaluate though. It's not just any Mewtwo, after all, it's a Gen 1 Mewtwo.

If I wanted the Megas, I'd hunt a Gen 7 Mewtwo easily in the wormholes.

Remember your very first time you played Pokemon Red/Yellow - when you got to Mewtwo, possibly wasted your Master Ball on Zapdos already and then struggled to catch it. Eventually you did.
You will never know, if that one Mewtwo might've been a shiny one.

Really like these gen 1 hunts! Just some advice, next time you hunt on gen 1 get your pokemon on red bar so the battles can be a little faster, other than that keep doing these hunts!
Pretty sure that only works in Red/Blue version man, not Yellow.

I finally got this boy today. I transferred it to Gen VII eventually but not without teaching it moves that can only be learned in Gen I and Gen II. I recorded and pictured it for posterity sake. Now. Off to Celebi in Crystal.
