That robot crushing a boys finger and an AI uprising being unlikely reminded me of this one walking simulator I played once called Paradise lost.
In that game you explore a huge fallout bunker and try to figure out what happened there. I probably didn't understand the story completely but what I got from it was that some resistance fellas smuggled themselves into the bunker and when they started to shoot shit up the AI in charge of managing the bunker told all the civilian occupants to move into a safe room but apparently it was too stupid to turn the ventilation on in that room on so they all suffocated.
AI accidentally killing tons of people while it's thinking its doing its job does seem more realistic than it somehow deloveloping consciousness and then wanting to do it.

In fact true, especially so if you know the kind of mediocrity the software industry gets up to. Also, remember the ethnicity of the people who will be programming it: all collectivist cultures. They're not going to accidentally create a soul when they don't even believe it exists. The worst thing their buggy Zerg Overmind will do is format our hard drives; then we can get back to fun shit like being a human.

The AI taking all the jobs has always been hilarious to me. Even the most braindead jobs like welding has billions poured into it to make the automation better. Better robots, better software, better whatever. Decades of research by some of the smartest people on the planet all working together. Still, you know what happens if you just give the robot two parts and tell it to weld them together, it says nothing and does nothing because you still have to get a guy to program the thing with every single movement. And you have to put the pieces into a fixture so they're always oriented the same way. And if there's even the slighest different in measurements the robot can fuck up the entire weld and literally break itself because it doesn't even have the remotest semblance of self-awareness or idea of preserving itself. Meanwhile you give the same pieces to a guy who flunked high school and did meth for five years and lost all his money on some cryptoscam and he'll do it in a few minutes. He'll know which tools to use. He'll tell you what the problems are. He'll ask for help. He won't die when doing it. You can hire that guy for under 30 dollars an hour while the latest up to date machines will run you hundreds of thousands of dollars and even more money to install and maintain and program. That's where is where AI is at after decades of work.

One day we took a truck out and we couldn't get anywhere because it was braking for itself. It was detecting it's mirror as a car and was braking for itself, so it just wouldn't move. Because the developers were lazy, and didn't want to learn the job. It's insane to me that we can pay these pajeets 150k a year to program these things and they do nothing of value.

At 11:00 I feel a brilliant example to complement Sam's words here is when the Therac-25 machine was fatally irradiating its patients. The software inside the machine had errors that the designers of the Therac didnt even think about, they thought about how the software should work in theory, but not in practice. One of the failsafes of the machine was that if the machine read any number other than 0 on the turntable to control the dosage of radiation, it would cancel the treatment, good in theory. However, it had a limit to how high it could tick up before having to revert back to zero after it reached 256 because it had used up the one byte of memory it was allowed to have, and if a technician entered a treatment right after it ticked over, it would read a zero and a potentially fatal dose of radiation would be allowed to go through. The arithmetic overflow caused one man to be fatally irradiated with about 17,000 rads of radiation.

The more videos you watch from other people using it, the more useful keywords you run across and really understand what it's capable of. It's only limited to your imagination, there are countless ways to combine styles, techniques, concepts, methods and materials.. You just haven't really tried to study it all and learn what all it can do.. People are discovering new ways to use it everyday; It's just getting started really... But really my point is, just imagine how it's going to be in 15 years from now, and how many other kind of AI's are out there that we haven't even thought of yet... It's a different approach than I thought it would be. I always thought that "AI" would be this one thing or "person in a machine..etc.. But really it's going to be hundreds of different kind of compartmentalized AI's, which we already have. There's an AI reading our comments right now and determining whether or not to censor us... There is an AI that converts every spoken word in every video into text, so that another AI can read that text, searching for keywords to censor or ban the video, etc.. At least the ART AI's are something that people get to use, and not just the big tech companies using them against us. I think there are going to be different AI's for everything in the coming years.. It's just trippy to think about the unforeseen, and what is going to be super useful, that we're just not thinking of yet.
