- M/Y OLOH departs North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, bound for Charleston, South Carolina with a few lay days for lousy weather in the fantastic Lowcountry city of Georgetown. Part 6 of our Southbound journey from New York includes a look at how the OLOH Crew passes the time when it's better to be tied to a dock than on the move as well as good advice on how to properly pass a dredge on the Intracoastal Waterway. And an arrival at Charleston's "Megadock" is always exciting!

You guys (including Jasper) are the BEST. Thank you for letting us travel with you. Great info. Stay safe.
Thanks so much Daniel! We're happy you're along for the ride and really appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
We toured a bout at the Grand Dunes Marina but it wasn’t the one. George Town is another cool town I look forward to explore by water or maybe a nice ride up on GEM the blue scooter.
Up here on the Chesapeake Bay, our boating season is winding down. Glad you are producing the videos of your adventures so we can still scratch that boating inch into the the Winter months. Great vlog. Enjoy!
Thanks so much Scott. We understand! The end of the season along with the winterization process were always depressing to us (a big part why we changed course with how we boat). Happy to help scratch that itch!
You guys are great. I'm in the process of setting myself up for early retirement so my wife and I can go on adventures like yours! Love the content and kind of get to live the dream a little
Thanks so much. We don't take any of it for granted for even a moment. And the planning can be as exciting as the doing!
Thanks for letting me experience this with you. It has been a dream but I decided to buy the land yacht instead.
Glad to have you along. We know a lot of boaters who bounce back and forth between their land yachts and boats. Whatever you're doing - enjoy!
Georgetown has excellent local seafood. And Charleston is a beautiful place; my home for many years
Both such great towns! We've been to Georgetown a few times but the stay when we shot this video was our longest. It was the weather that kept us there but we're so glad it did as we really got a feel for it. And yes - the seafood!
Great channel! I'm not sure what took me so long to find you, but I'm sure glad I did. Your information is great!
And we're so glad you found us! Thanks for your kind words - we look forward to checking out Cruising 5 to 1. Nice Hatt!
Love the video hope to meet you three someday when you're back in Charleston because that's where I live about 4 more miles down the Ashley River, next time you can dock in my backyard for free.
Thanks Thomas! That's an awesome offer and a great location. Really appreciate that.
Awesome! 😎
Thanks Dorsey! Couldn't have done it without you 😄
@@OLOH 😇
Another great vid! Thanks for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching!
My dog loves life on my boat too!
Only thing I don’t like about owning a large boat,is having to worry about water depths
What kind of boat is this? Does it have 8v Detroit’s?
OLOH is a 60' Jefferson Marquessa Motor Yacht with 825 hp Detroit Series 60's. Lots of details at myoloh.com/the-boat
My dock has power and water and 10 feet at low tide
What is an average fee for docking overnight? What speed do you maintain and what’s your gph burn rate??
Great question. Docking fee can vary wildly but for much of where we stay on the ICW it seems to average out at around $2.25 - $2.50 per foot with some marinas charging $10 or $15 additional per night for electric (a single 50 amp cord in our case). Many marinas offer discounts, usually around 10%, for being a member of Boat US, Sea Tow or some other club or service.
We typically cruise at around 10 knots where we burn approximately 10 - 12 gallons per hour. It often works out to 1 nautical mile per gallon. Check out our travel logs on our blog where we get a bit more detailed about our speed averages and fuel burn for each leg: myoloh.com/category/travel-log
Cheers!
@@OLOH thank you for your reply. 1 gallon per nm is pretty darn good.
I enjoy your seeing people actually using their yacht. Your videos are excellent. Thanks for sharing
hey done the trip many times , Look for LADY LISA ,50 ft hatteras conv see you in the keys or bahamas
Hope to see you out there Mark 😎
Have you guys ever done the Great Loop?
Hey Dennis - we haven't done the Loop yet but have several friends who have. OLOH stands a bit too tall as-is but we have a hinged radar mast and if we removed our domes we could make it. Not sure if we'll ever do the whole thing but, like all cruisers, it definitely intrigues us!
Worth waiting for 😎🐾, another goodie & hey... what's the draft on OLOH please? Do you feel, on the routes you've been running, on the ICW, would a draft of 6ft 8" be excessive?
Thanks Douglas! OLOH draws just under 5'. We would not be comfortable running 6'8" through several stretches of the AICW. It *could* be done with a few exceptions where it would be prudent to go outside and there would be many areas where transiting at high tide would be critical. You are likely aware of the ICW Cruising FB Group by Bob423. It is a terrific resource for the very latest in the notoriously shoal areas. AquaMaps has also proven essential with its overlay of the USACE surveys, often showing the deep water is not where the marked channel is.
@@Chanseatiamo The Beards have become good friends since this video was shot. And while Esmeralde is spelled as it is, they do pronounce it Esmeral-da 😎
Thanks AJ... I'll follow thru on that of Bob423
Re the pronunciation on Esmeralde... Well I'll be 🤭🙄... I just checked with Bruce & sure enough, you are completely right. Oooops!!
