As a musician and a producer, I have to say, he made that loop insanely fast - it's amazing. The chords, rhythm, and the bassline, all just lined up perfectly in that short amount of time. The guy's an absolute music genius.
Is it just me or if you listen closely, some notes were not played live by him? Such as the rhythm in the 2nd layer, what was eventually in the loop had 1 extra note. Like it was prerecorded or something :/

@@IsaacWong116 yes, it is pre recorded just in case if some technical issue arise during live. And beforehand they do a mock run of the whole interview where they test this things.

@@abulhasan923 it's definitely staged because for one you need a metronome to record something that sounds half decent. Also some of those parts he didn't finish playing and it just made it to the recording somehow haha. I love Charlie and I see how for the sake of time they made the beat ahead of time, because otherwise we'd seen him take at least 5-10 minutes to put it together.
If that’s the best thing you’ve ever heard then listen to his song Loser. It’s the same thing except he doesn’t use cups.

Look he obviously didn't record and play that live on the show - you can hear that... but the point still stands that this is such a good way of showing that music production is more accesible now than it's ever been! Anyone can create the art they love now with just a laptop and a microphone, and how awesome is that.
I finally started following Charlie after seeing him on my fyp. He's not doing anything new, I'm sure many musicians can do this: his brilliance is thinking that this apparently "nerdy" stuff is actually a very cool thing that the public love! Showing how music can be simple and genius at the same time is something many artists overlook. I really love that Charlie is a geek for music.

The song he did with the cup was actually pre-recorded before. There's many notes in the chords and bass parts that he never plays on his keyboard but that you can hear nevertheless in the final result. (Plus you can hear that there was a little bit of mixing and mastering) Imo, it takes off a little bit of magic, but this guy is awesome anyway with everything he does so whatever, it does the trick 💫
