Would you recommend training in a tri-suit? I understand you shouldn't be doing things for the first time on race day, but I feel I'd get some odd looks swimming at the pool, or running in the park wearing it!
On a similar note, would you recommend doing "mock triathlons" where you do a swim, bike and run back to back? If so, any tips for the practicalities of this?

The big one (I think) is to go for a few longer rides in the tri suit. The padding is a little different so you want to make sure you’ll be comfortable, especially for longer course races. I find that swimming and running in a tri suit is less of a concern.

The “coach’s corner” title made me realize that there are runners who don’t race, cyclists who don’t race, and most adult swimmers don’t race. Yet 99% of the people who call themselves a triathlete race! I’ve always said I don’t necessarily like to run, It’s more that I like to race!

Do you recommend any strength training into this program or should it be harder runs, cycling sessions etc?

Thanks for the answers, also the one regarding flying mounts made me laugh as my 4 year old son keeps on doing that without anyone explaining him how😀

Not related to this video but just wanted to ask if you are covering the UK Ironman this weekend? The pro field looks awesome and a lot of AG's who've waited 2 years for the race.

I'm a 17 year old runner/cyclist and I kinda just do my own thing running and biking each week. I can do a 10k run in 44 minutes and bike 50k averaging 32 km/h, recently i've been feeling like I'd quite like to add some proper routine and training to my week. And actually get the most out of each activity, if anyone has advice/ some expertise to share, it would be appreciated. Cheers.

If my training involves a cycle of 3 hard weeks followed by 1 easy week, how easy should the easy week be? I currently train on my hard weeks at 13-15 hours/week (7-8K swimming/week, 275-300K bike/week, 40K run/week). On my easy week I generally keep the swim the same and reduce the bike and run volume by about 35% (200K bike, 27K run) #gtncoachescorner

Is there a difference between a recovery run and an easy run? I've seen a lot of conflicting material and advice. Some say recovery runs are Z1 (out of 5) and easy runs are Z2 (out of 5), while some use the recovery run and easy run terminology interchangeably.

#gtncoachescorner is it realistic to train for your first 70.3 with no coach? Possible? Coaches are expensive for students...

#gtncoachescorner If racing all sprint races in a season how much focus should be done on long swim, bike, and run workouts? Or would majority high intensity be more beneficial?

#gtncoachescorner how do you create your own plan? I’ve used pre made ones before (e.g 220 triathlon) but was wondering if you used a format or template to personalise your own training schedule but still be able to benefit from coach type drills :)

#gtncoachescorner I recently did my first race of the season. Going into the race I felt I had made some good progress with the swim, having joined an open water swim group practicing drafting, sighting etc. During the mass start of the race I went out hard to get good position in the pack and got completely swam over and dunked I then panicked struggling to breath. Basically it ruined my race. Any advice how to deal with this? cheers.

#gtncoachescorner I normally run (and swim and bike) early in the morning since that's the only time of day I can consistently train. Just this past week, I ran during the afternoon when the temperature was much warmer than I'm used to. The interesting thing was that I felt comfortable running at a higher heart rate when it was warmer than when it's cold. I can keep a steady pace and feel good up to about 145 bpm on mornings when it's down around 61 degrees (F) but during the afternoon run when it was about 75 degrees (F) I felt the same level of comfort running at around 155 bpm. How could this be? I may need to test this by running in the afternoon more often so I know it wasn't a fluke. Should I expect this though?

I'm training for marathons over 4 years and 1 month ago I competed in my first sprint triathlon race. It was a real fun. I want to focus on triathlon races specially longer versions without sacrificing my marathon training which takes 6 days a week. Is it possible? If I add 2 swimming and 2 biking training extra for a week, does it make sense? Or do you have any suggestions?

#gtncoachescorner Hello GTN!Quick question: since basically all energy gels nowadays have caffeine in them, will they have a bigger effect on us,during the race,if we abstain ourselves from caffeine a couple of days prior the race?Thank you in advance.

#gtncoachescorner I'm not a great triathlete (anticipated sprint time for Bleinheim approximately 1hr45) i've been trying an 80/20 split of zone 2/zone 4 runs and bikes which is going well for training but now everything is based from my heart rate rather than a pace i'm not sure what HR zone i should be aiming for on race day. Can you help?

Hi, I would like to know what is more difficult: going from an olympic triathlon to a half triathlon or from a half to an iron man? I'm now training for a half and I'm planning to go to an iron man after that. #gtncoachescorner
