Literally obsessed with Dr Sterry! I love the way his belly button looks like a normal belly button. I love the way he described specific markings to prevent dog ears. Will be booking soon, just waiting on the right time ❤

This makes me want to get a tummy tuck even more now i had my first son 6 years ago and the diastasis recti never went awa regardless of what i would do. I got injured at workabout a year ago and they had me do physical therapy and they had me plank for 1min 3 times and it made it completely seperate again. I just want to feel normal again and stop carrying so much stress on my back.

Male. 64. Severe DR + umbilical hernia.Abdominal doming, separation and expansion is pronounced.
How will normal body contour be restored?
General surgeon told me that DR repair only fixes horizontally by no more than 2cm and does not fix the DR vertically. Does anyone know if that is true? Will I get my abs back post-op and over time with the proper core PT?

I have 5 patients that I know of with 6 children post tummy tuck. NONE of them has requested a revision. It's rather surprising, but he tummy seems to do well after another child. I wouldn't recommend getting pregnant again, but it seems that most are okay with that scenario.

NO. That is NOT true. With a tummy tuck we have complete exposure to the abdominal wall and can repair the DR no matter how wide it is, both horizontally AND vertically. Furthermore, we can "snug up" the lax abdominal wall in cases where the expansion was major and when it is appropriate. Hernia repair is commonly performed at the same time. That said, a patients individual anatomy can affect the outcome.

@@drsterry Thanks. My take: big difference between a general surgeon that does 99% hernia repair and a plastic surgeon that is a specialist in both hernia + DR repair. So, the key for cases in which the expansion/separation is severe is to not just do the DR repair, but to combine with abdominoplasty, correct? My CT scan showed little subcutaneous abdominal fat and moderate visceral fat.

@@drsterryin the event of any surgery, I take it, it would be best to lose as much abdominal fat as possible?

I am 52 years old woman I have had many surgeries through my abdomen. Creating diastasis recti my six pack muscles were on either side of me.
I had massive hernia that laid really low and I couldn’t wear regular clothes, etc. it was miserable. I was starving myself thinking I was fat. I was a former colostomy patient.
Before the surgery, I lost a lot of weight thanks to my bariatrics doctor and Vyvanse
I never gain much weight or I could ruin the surgery, but I had a 15% chance of any of this coming back !!!
Now I’m having another surgery that’s affecting my hormones. My parathyroid is diseased and I have severe hypercalcemia. I went from very thin to gaining 15 pounds very quickly and my stomach looks disgusting again.
It was never quite right anyway I have a front butt as people like me say
The hypercalcemia in the high PTH levels cause every kind of symptom you can imagine and tummy pain but now that I have belly fat does that mean I have a hernia again should I have had a tummy tuck with it? They told me it would not be covered by insurance, but when you’ve been cut through your abdomen four times I would think , you would qualify
I’m terrified that something is wrong with me with my mesh
