Awesome looking forward to this, just ordered! Innthe next wid explaining the process, can you alao address how to set the bed size in simplaAF for us Max owners please?
Awesome! Congrats on grabbing your Cartographer3D probe! I may do some configuration and bed settings in another video so the setup and install video isn't too long. But I can definitely cover that!
I wish we could but as already explained the prtouch code is closed source. There is some active work going on to bring the load cell stuff to klipper and make it open source, but it will likely require some hardware changes anyway to convert the 4 load cells to a single one, but at the moment its no where near ready for every day use. Even a microprobe or bltoucch is a better choice than the load cells imho.
@@zerodotcmdyes I have. Just like on my ender 3’s I want rid of Creality’s washed down things really. I’ll give it a while for any major bugs to be ironed out and I’ll figure out installing it 😁
@@DSPrints_ SimpleAF has been used for a while now by a pretty good size community. Pretty much all bugs are worked out. There's always the edge case of someone trying to do something weird. But for the most part its Install, Setup Probe, Print.
Hello, I was fed up with poor first-layer results and how uneven the bed was on my K1 Max. So, I made some changes: I installed 4 silicone spacers on the bed screws. I replaced the magnetic bed with a 4mm glass bed. I took a bold step and added an old-school "3D Touch" probe-the kind used on Ender printers. Surprisingly, it gave me perfect first layers, much better than the K1’s stock probe. Sure, tools like Cartographer3D might offer faster and more efficient mesh leveling. But for anyone on a tight budget or without access to advanced technology, I can confirm from experience that even a simple 3D Touch works wonders. No need to install Simple AF unless you want to-just ensure your printer is rooted. Your tips are fantastic, by the way! If anyone wants to see the mesh leveling on a K1 Max with a 3D Touch, let me know, and I’ll share it. 😊
Simple AF also supports the BlTouch / CrTouch / 3dTouch as well, and either that or a Microprobe is a also great choice for bed levelling. You can use a 3dtouch with rooted K1 with Helper Script, heck, I even have a guide for doing that, but Simple AF is imho just better :-) Of course I am biased.
Of course, any probe is better than the stock load cells. The touch probes still work great. Just not as fancy. Luckily we don't always need fancy to be effective. ☺️
So the btt eddy as far as hardware goes, I think they are probably equivalent, but where the eddy gets let down is the software and software support. The cartographer has far and away the best software support and the cartographer dev team is continuing to work on improving it. The eddy seems like its been left to stagnate a bit. Look if you already have the eddy, its a pretty good probe and with Simple AF you can get good results, and we are still working on trying to make it an even better experience.
Pellcorp's 100% right. The hardware isn't bad but they have pretty much abandoned the software side of things. If you already have the BTT Eddy you can still use this with SimpleAF pretty reliably.
Hahah after installing the BTT eddy install minus using the glass bed mod you shown I had quickly uninstalled it after 3 prints. I was rather unimpressed and it wouldn’t hold a Z-height for home. I am excited to see a full install guide and maybe going through the simple af Klipper install with you.
Unfortunately the BTT Eddy was like this. Worked for some but not for others. The software was pretty much abandoned. For the most part its usable now in SimpleAF, it took a lot to get it usable for more users. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of these issues since at the time no one was using the Eddy. After more users came on board problems became apparent right away. Luckily the Cartographer3D has a great track record already.
@ yeah. I bought the eddy back when it first came out with all of its hype… but hadn’t installed it because I like the auto z-offset crutch that PR-Touch had to offer. As a result, it then sat and sat until i saw your eddy install video and i figured I’d give it a go. But my machine couldn’t hold its offset to save its life and got horrible z-banding mid print. Didn’t aspire to dig any further and uninstalled it. Went back to PR touch and bought a carto until I find inspiration to install that 😆
Currently the mount for the Cartographer3D isn't compatible with the rear channel for the glass sub bed mod. I am working on a probe mount that will bring compatibility to the glass sub bed mod.
If you have not purchased the eddy, I would recommend the cartographer. However if you already have the eddy, you can get it working, its just slightly more painful. SimpleAF supports both of them, plus microprobe and bltouch and clones (crtouch, 3dtouch)
Pellcorp is correct. If you already have the Eddy you'll be alright, but if you haven't picked up a probe yet then I highly recommend the Cartographer3D!
@zerodotcmd could maybe scan for self calibration? Thought that was the original idea, pretty sure a hd camera beats it but not seen that either unless I've missed it.
@@3d1e00 That's the problem with Creality marketing. Over promised, under delivered. The use of the LiDAR mostly makes things worse. Its always best to tune and calibrate the printer manually for the best results.
But okay, serious answer. For a 4-minute video, I generally record for hours. I’ll say a few things, pace around to recite ideas and lines since I don’t script, then come back and say more. The sliding is a habit I’ve picked up when I’m mentally ready to say something. Still new at this 🙃
The BTT Eddy is still a viable option for the K1 Series. I prefer the Cartographer3D more but the BTT Eddy is finally in a decent state with all the changes and adjustments from the community and SimpleAF.
@@pellcorp I mean I (at least me) would love to see "pimped" K1 and Zero is closest on youtube to achieve that. I'm wondering if it is worth going that direction rather cutting costs an buying something else (I already had thicker bed, and swiss nozzle, Zero opened my eyes to your mod and the eddy). Either way good job both of you :)
@@kapollo Just do not think about how much money you have spent on your printers to get them where you like them, and do not for the love of god compare that to the price of a bambu printer 🙂

Amazing content Zero, you saved my K1 Max with the glass bed mod video, but with this probe and Simple AF my printer is now even better! Thanks.
Thanks awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad your printer has been saved!
it's actually a passable printer now.
@@xDarthwarzx Putting time in the printer definitely makes it a way better machine.
I love my cartographer. Best addition to this printer.
They really are amazing probes!

Thanks for the feedback! It was an exciting video for me.
@zerodotcmd Keep doing great things! Awesome to see your work, both with videos and printers.
Man i just got the BTT eddy to follow your other video.
same XD
Don't worry, you're still getting contactless probing, 10x faster bed meshes and 10x more accuracy! Plus the red light looks pretty!
And a probe with a shitty so-called "support" from btt.
Already bought the cartographer. I'll throw my Eddy in the trash when it arrives.
The Eddy works well with SimpleAF. It took a lot of work to get it there. If you already have the Eddy you should be fine to move ahead with SimpleAF.
Looking forward seeing the installation. I installed the kraken watts extruder and it is fantastic

Will simple af work with the load cell bed probing on the k1 max if i don't want to use the eddy/cartographer3d?
It won't as prtouch (load cell probe) isn't opensourced by creality.

Hopefully this eventually makes it into SimpleAF as pellcorp has said. Its one of the last holdouts for the K1 Series.
Got my sub, def interested in doing this to my k1
Thanks. Part two will be coming very very soon!
Finally custom firmware! Been waiting for this as opposed to just rooting it.
If custom firmware is what you've been waiting for then you'll love SimpleAF!
