@@ExpeditionThemePark Droomvlucht and the Pandadroom are also good for coverage. Heck that can be said about most of Efteling's Big/Mayor/Defunct attractions.
It wasn't just a ride, it was one of the most festive place in the efteling if you ask me. The Bob with De Steenbok and the plaza in front of it had always a realy good vibe. In the summer season it was the buissiest area in the park with a wild party. A artist made de Steenbok a club house and cald the club: Bob Slee Vereneging de Steenbok. For this was epic. Sadly, this is all gone and will never come back. A real shame 😭 a experiance like no other. !!! Also!!! The Bob had no height requirement. Is a child could walk, thay can go on. This was realy realy special. A lot of 2 year olds whent on it and LOVED it!!!
I wasn't surprised to see the bob go, because you could notice very much technical issues. But I was very dissapointed when we heard its replacement, because they said it would be a worthy replacement and came back with a powerdcoaster
This was my first rollercoaster. It was a joy to ride especially when it rained. Your first rollercoaster is like that first friend in school who showed you around and introduced you to his friends. That was the bob for me, and I hope Max and Moritz could do the same for a newer generation.
If I could visit any park anywhere in the world, it would have to be Efteling !! I've watched every little tidbit I can find on it, over and over lol !! It just looks ,to me, like the total package park. ! !
Yea that was when I last went, And it was down for maintenance but so was a couple of other ones as well Before that it was running for a very good few years before it needed another maintenance fix like any other ride does at a Theme Park or another attraction
I watched this thinking, wow I would love to be able to ride this. Until you said they sold their old cars to Six Flags over Texas, and I gasped out loud! I’ve ridden the toboggan ride at that park and had no idea they were the old cars from Efteling. I feel closer to it even a little ✨
I was there on the last day of operation, it is one of my best theme park memory. There was an amazing atmosphere, everyone was celebrating together, singing the fun song while waiting in line, joining the party after the ride closed... A wonderful evening to end last year's summer, this is how you say good bye to a classic beloved ride.
Im so glad i could expeirence the ride one year before it closed thatnks to the amazing dutch planet coaster community. Efteling is one of the best theme parks in the world. watching the footage of the party they did when they closed it (and what i have experienced from my 2 visits) its clear how much they respect their heritage and audience.
As a dutch person my first thought was. Wow other people are gonna get a super weird impression of our music style here. The style is called carnaval muziek and honestly it's how we party
You should do a video on Flying Turns located at Knoebels (my home park). It took the park nearly 7 years to construct and perfect with multiple issues pertaining to the track and coaster trains. It's the only existing wooden bobsled coaster in the world currently!
Will never forget when we went to Efteling with our then 7-year old son for the first time. He was afraid of the creatures in the Fairy Tale Forest .. but he LOVED this ride and rode it several times in a row ;)
When I last visited De Efteling a couple of years ago, I went in through the single riders as none of my group wanted to join me. The reason: they would hurt for hours afterwards after previous rides. I'm glad to have done the ride but I think it was just at the end of it's lifetime. Also, as an adult, of course it's a pity that the ride replacing it is a kiddie coaster. But let's face it, parks need kiddie coasters. I still recall visiting de Efteling with family as a 4-5 year old and being incredibly disappointed I was the only cousin who didn't get to ride any of the big rides - I distinctly remember Vogel Rok. Joris en de Draak with 110 corresponds to an average 5 year old. M&M with 100 cm to a 3,5 year old. That's a pretty big difference at that age. And if de Bob was built now it would never be certified without a length limit. Guidelines have changed in time.
So some 25 years ago, i was about 10 years old, I was stuck at this ride on the top of the lift hill. We waited for a long time before a worker walked up to us and just asked us to get up from underneath the lapbar. No problem for me but my bigger uncle was not so happy. All we got in the end was a small aplause from the people below. I love the efteling, visited many times. This is one of my best memories.
i was actually standing behind the gate when it closed for the last time at 8:40 in the video. actually got footage of it and all. it’s pretty cool to know that i was one of last people to ever experience the ride and it will be forever engraved in my head.
My mother absolutely loved this machine. We made it a family tradition the last few years to visit De Efteling every year. She was quite down in hearing it was going to be torn down. I myself will only miss it for nostalgic reasons though. I found the ride, though unique, to be very uncomfortable because of the guide rails. Made for a bumpy, almost painful ride when the track was slightly damp. (Although that did increase it's thrill value)
Goodness, the little bit about the bobsled coaster in Rollercoaster Tycoon crashing was the main reason I was scared of riding the Bob, silly as it sounds! When my boyfriend came over (he's American, I'm Dutch) we had to visit the Efteling of course, and, conquering my fear, we went on Bob, a month before it got broken down... and it had a cut-out in the middle of the ride, so we sat there for like 20 minutes behind a buncha overexcited teenagers who wanted beer. We just found it amusing... me and my other half were professionally escorted out, and got a VIP ticket for another ride as well as coupons for a free drink. Good ol' Bob. I treasure the memory and ain't even mad, because I love the Efteling and their attention to detail, and how quick they came to our help regardless. I didn't even expect any sort of compensation but they still did. I'm super excited to see a video of it in English so I can share it with my boyfriend!
It is well worth a mention that a wooden Bob stands to this day at Knoebels Grove Amusement Park in elysburg, PA USA. It is the only wooden Bobsled coaster left on earth.
Six Flags Great Escape here in NY still has a bobsled rollercoaster. And north of there, you can experience what it's like to go bobsledding on a legit Olympic bobsled run in Lake Placid, used for the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Yes, a small Upstate town hosted the Olympics TWICE
I rode the sleds at Magic Mountain well over 100 times. These attractions are simply a blast. Best part was no lines or waits. One day I rode the thing 20 times.good historical video. Thanks
We had a ride at Six Flags in Chicago that was a bobsled ride. I missed it was gone so I know so many fell by saying goodbye to the Bob. Rides like that are big parts of our childhood.
What with the lack of hills and speed, the very best thing about these rides is the novelty. In order to increase the excitement value, I think the tracks should be thoroughly cleaned and/or repainted every 6-12 months to disguise the route the trains take. For me, when you can see the dirty wheel marks, you might as well be on a standard hill-less, slow coaster. Anyway, great video, informative as always!
I went Efteling exactly a year ago (22nd July 2019) for the first time and was fortunate to ride this as our last ride of the day. If only I'd have known 6 weeks later the ride would close for good, it was only the second Bobsled coaster I had been on after Avalanche at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
The Bob was always one of my favorite rides in the efteling, I remember as a kid in the days they stil had the nylon wheels a bit of rain would make feel the ride out of control and it was literally like skating on ice.
I have been lucky enough to experience this in the rain. The bottom of each drop filled with a small layer of water that the bob was aquaplaining on, so it was running way faster than it should.
deeply miss the bob. It was one of my favorite rides at the park. Max & Moritz is such a slow, lame kiddy replacement :( Those intamin bobsled coasters felt way closer to a real bobsled ride than the multiple-car mack versions. I'm glad I got to ride it 1 week before it closed for good and bought an onride photograph in a "snow globe" case. #NeverForget
Another great video! I had no idea Claude Mabillard had something to do with the ride. It makes sense though as I believe the first project B&M did as a company was to create new trains for the bobsled coaster when it was at Six Flags Great America. It had operated with single row trains for years. The park asked B&M to create trains with side-by-side seating to increase capacity, thus starting the incredible relationship with the park, which would ultimately send B&M in to the stratosphere of the amusement industry.
I loved the bob so much! I remember boarding it as a kid with a cute little beanie on. My beanie ended up flying right into my aunt's face and of course I found that hilarious 😂
I'm sad the Bob is gone, it's been a major part of my childhood. But I can honestly say that Max & Moritz is a great replacement. People were very judgemental of it when seeing snippets of what it was going to be, and I wasn't entirely sure either. But I've been on it last week and I was pleasantly surprised, as are a lot of other people. It's definitely a worthy replacement! I also appreciate that it's aimed at children aged 4-10, because with the disappearance of the Bob there was no rollercoaster left that children from 1.00m could ride. Max & Moritz is amazing as a kid's first rollercoaster ride, just like the Bob was. I think they did a great job. :-)
I'm in the US without any sight of being able to travel to Europe in the future, and your videos on Alton Towers and Efteling are great! It makes me want to visit those parks so bad! The one I'm looking forward to is Fata Morgana.
Actually tearing up a bit. This used to be my first coaster of the day for so many years when I had an annual pass. Never knew how much it meant to me after I watched this video. Thanks for the memories Bob, you will be missed.
during al my visits to the efteling, this is the one coaster i only got to ride once. when i learned that it was closing, I was very sad that i'd only rode it once. but i am still happy i did
I have been on two of these bobsled style coasters: Disaster Transport (Intamin) at Cedar Point many times as a kid and also rode Avalanche (Mack) at Kings Dominion a few times last year. I had a lot more fun on Avalanche than I was expecting to but unfortunately I feel that will be gone as well within the decade. As I was watching this I said to myself "Wow! THIS is how you properly send off a ride!" What a true celebration of a local icon, it was very inspiring. I unfortunately feel like Max and Moritz is not a very worthy replacement though. It looks fun, but it doesn't have the interaction with the forest and it's a powered coaster of course which is a bit disheartening. It doesn't look nearly as exciting and surely not as unique as it's predecessor. I honestly feel like something such as a vekoma family inverted coaster like Dollywood's Dragonflier would've been a much better replacement here. Fantastic video as always!
I haven't been to a park in years and I'm not a coaster fan, but I love Avalanche at Kings Dominion. I really hope they leave it, but considering they've gotten rid of its neighbor Volcano it feels like it's time is limited.
Thank you, for giving a proper tribute to this beautiful coaster. As an Efteling fanatic from when I was young, I can happily say that I have ridden the bob countless times. And the Efteling never gave it a proper video goodbye. So thank you, for doing it for them
I have so many great memories of the Bob! It was the only coaster my mom would ride. She's terrified of coasters (even kiddie coasters!), but somehow didn't see the Bob as an actual coaster because it doesn't have a classic coaster track. So this was the only coaster we ever rode together as a whole family. I won't be getting my mom on Max & Moritz though, after her "traumatizing" experience on the Bob Express at Bobbejaanland lol (which is also a Mack powered coaster).
The first time I went on this ride I was so scared. As a little kid I was convinced that the sled would fly off the track eventually. We bought the on ride picture and it is beautiful chaos. My dad and little brother in the front seat smiling like idiots. Me in the second seat nearly crying. And in the third seat my grandma who is holding on to me for dear life.
I'm so glad I got to ride it once, 2 years ago. The first time I went to efteling. I was there earlier (around 2 weeks ago) and max & Moritz looks great. But the Bob will forever be missed ❤️
I love that they were able to and took advantage of giving it a proper send-off. It was probably difficult to keep it running and then to shut it down.
During the rain this ride had a bad habit of sliding though the block breaks. This because the new trains are a lot heavier. Nice vid and can't wait for more.
@Gop I actually prefer the new antique cars, the older ones where standard and not unique to the Efteling (And ofcourse the horn is goovy). Then the new trains on Python make the ride fun instead of bad (pre-retrack in 2018). Heide park in germany has a simular coaster called Big Loop. that one still has the old trains and that ride was horrible.
Did you know that the Mack rides bob coasters track is completely bend by hand (and that’s one of the reasons the stopped making it as it is to labor intensive). During testing of the ride at the Efteling, some employs got to ride the ride while standing up. This was possible because it is a (relatively) tame ride and the roll cadge functions perfectly as a place to hold on to. Most of the time it was also common practice too keep the bob running during rain, however after an incident in 2017 when the brakes failed (due to the rain), the ride wouldn't be operated when the track was wet. This led to that, sometimes, after a rainstorm employs had to manually dry the track (using window wipers and towels). The rubber wheels also were a last resort, if those wouldn't have worked out (or have been suggested by Lex Lemmens) the ride would have been sold, so it was a really close call. (miner nitpick, but Loopins (as written in the credits) is spelled whit 3 o’s (Looopings)) For the next expedition Efteling I would like to see dream flight or the vliegende hollander. Have you ever had the chance to experience the BOB?
I remember my first ride very well, I almost had to leave the ride after boarding because severe thunderstorms were approaching the area but fortunately we were the last ones permitted to go round the track before the ride went down for weather. I loved the rainrides on this thing. Sure I will miss this unique, bumpy yet fun experience
I loved the Bob! It was my mums favourite and we would always ride it. I didn't know that it was gone and I am very sad that it's gone. I hopw that the new attraction will be worth it.
Another really good video Sam, And so glad you finally did another Eftelling video! Next video for Efteling please do the classic Dark Ride-Fata Morgana that also first opened in the 80's :-)
My mom is really scared of rollercoasters, but since it was closing we went on it with the whole family. I collect action photos and I think that that one is probably my best one to date. Then probably followed by an Austrian alpine coaster ride I rode on last holiday.
Every time you do one of these I learn something new despite me soaking up Efteling information and history almost daily ever since we got access to the internet in 2004! Shows how well researched they are, keep 'em coming! For the next Expedition Efteling? I saw a real neat video about the Spookslot by another English tuber recently, but I'd love to see your take on it as well! Fata Morgana is my favourite at the park, so naturally I'd suggest that as well!
The Bob in its last years was a rough ride, but It was a nice kinda rough that I didnt wanna change for the world. The Bob has a special place in my heart and I was very sad to see it go. I loved the surprising speed it had and I am super glad the Efteling gave it a worthy goodbye, though not as glad about the replacements (Im not a fan of powered coasters and wouldnt be surprised if max and moritz feel much slower.
Have been a passholder for years now. Kinda miss the Bob but got to do Max and Moritz a few weeks ago and i absolutely loved it. This video gave me huge nostalgia though! Please consider making a video about the Pegasus (woodie before Joris en de Draak) since i would love to see your coverage on it. Cheers!
Just found your channel. These video's are very well put together! This is some high quality theme park content. I like hohw you combined both new and old footage and it's nice to get the whole story from beginning to end.
I only rode the Bob once, but I’m sad that it’s closed. It was a very unique and classic rollercoaster. I am going to the Efteling the day after Max en Moritz opened tho, and I can’t wait!
as a dutchie who rode the bob countless times, this makes me sad again! the bob was amazing and wil forever be missed!

I am so glad that you remind us of it.
Thank you, for giving a proper tribute to this beautiful coaster. As an Efteling fanatic from when I was young, I can happily say that I have ridden the bob countless times. And the Efteling never gave it a proper video goodbye. So thank you, for doing it for them
I was devastated to see that this ride was closed when I went on my first visit there, little did I know it would be closed forever.
What a lovely way to close a ride! Extremely similar to what Thorpe Park for Loggers Leap. Extremely.
don't get me starting on that again
Absolutely love Efteling ☺
Me too!
The parade of Bobs is the best part of the video.
This video is such a blessing and fills me with nostalgia for this ride. I'll miss it but the new ride looks fun too.
@Gop and thats your opinion
Rode this track my whole life and it was a stapple in most visits to the park
That De Bob ride looked like fun. It’s sad to see it closed for good.
Yeah it was great
Great video. I rode the Bob Last August, one month before it closed. It was my first time at the park. Glad I got a good POV of it.
What a celebration for a coaster’s last day!!!🎊 🥳🎉
This is what i was waiting for!
Woo
Expedition Theme Park I’m Sad because the voice of the Holle Bolle Gijs changed and it’s first voice was the voice from Tom Van DeVen
The perfect family outing !
OMG! I was there 1 month before it closed!
Efteling is amazing! Every theme Park lover has to go there at least once in their life!
I'm so glad I got to ride it once, 2 years ago. The first time I went to efteling. I was there earlier (around 2 weeks ago) and max & Moritz looks great. But the Bob will forever be missed ❤️
I have so many childhood memories to this ride, thank you for making these awesome videos
always look forward to the new expedition
I loved these old intamin bobs
I’m going to visit over Texas and great escape as much as I can and get as many rides on theirs before they close
Good plan!
Even to this day the SFOT version is very popular. If they could ever figure out how to increase the capacity. Very family friendly ride.
Thanks for this fantastic video! I miss the Bob so much :(
I love that they were able to and took advantage of giving it a proper send-off. It was probably difficult to keep it running and then to shut it down.
Nice one its was fun seeing the history of this ride as I did few years ago and its replacement looks good
The bob was really fun i miss de bob
I miss the bob that thing was awesome
(miner nitpick, but Loopins (as written in the credits) is spelled whit 3 o’s (Looopings))
For the next expedition Efteling I would like to see dream flight or the vliegende hollander.
Have you ever had the chance to experience the BOB?
That should be the way forward. Any rides that close need to be given a song! 😜
Thank you Mike!
@@ExpeditionThemePark Your very welcome mate, I also sent you a PM on Twitter :-)
My mom is really scared of rollercoasters, but since it was closing we went on it with the whole family. I collect action photos and I think that that one is probably my best one to date. Then probably followed by an Austrian alpine coaster ride I rode on last holiday.
Droomvlucht (dreamflight) is a must do on Expedition Efteling. For many guests is the first attrection to do before going anywhere else.
I gotta say, i absolutely loved BoB and i was there at the end party and it was great, although Max & Moritz is a really cool and fun ride!
Sing along!
🎶 In de Anderrijkse bergen
Jo-de-la 🎶
I'm so happy this is my homepark
The Bob was my first "coaster" I ever rode, and this brings back many good memories :)
Cheers!
The distant chainlift and woosh sound of the Bob through the forest was so atmospheric
I am going to the Efteling the day after Max en Moritz opened tho, and I can’t wait!
this was my first rollercoaster ever, i already miss it so much.
Finally another Efteling one! :D
About time right
@@ExpeditionThemePark haha deffinitely! well done on this one again!
Thank you for all the work you do for all the details and great footage!
