Woodworking in Japan, Kumiko workshop

- In 2018, Anton and I went on an exciting adventure to Japan to explore the world of Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique. Through emails and Instagram exchanges, we connected with Naoki Ikoshima, an incredibly talented Kumiko master. Naoki San warmly welcomed us into his workshop, where we spent five immersive days learning from him and getting hands-on with Kumiko. We even had the chance to create our own Kumiko screens! We've captured the entire journey in a fun and informative video, sharing the process of crafting Kumiko grids and filling them with beautiful patterns. Check it out and join us on our Kumiko adventure!
Absolutely beautiful. I’m starting to learn kumiko at the moment. The Japanese are unparalleled in woodworking. God bless them.

Every time I think I’ve figured out woodworking, I come across people doing things that seem impossible to me-casually.
Absolutely stunning. You have inspired me to have ago myself while we are in Coved19 lock down. I might be able to make a cup coaster sized piece. Lol.

Ah, yes. Satisfaying to watch Japanese crafts I can't afford.

I miss Japan
In the main piece I see a mountain scene, but I’m not sure on [either, really] the second one. Anybody got any ideas?
You are right thet the first one is a mountain scene and are very Japanese and made by a cabinet maker (me) The second one is more an abstract piece and a test piece for a later project. It shows bread when you cut in half and see the beautiful pattern inside. It's made by an architect (my boyfriend Anton)
A lot of fitting together but virtually nothing about fashioning the kumiko pieces in the first place.

Absolutely beautiful
Сколько труда? А как это применять?
You made both of these in 4 days ??
Wow... How one can purchase this..
ماشاء الله

It’s called a Ha-Ganna
Good afternoon. Excellent work. Tell me where you can buy plane for Kumiko?
Oleg Kazarin you can buy them from sellers in japan. But they aren’t cheap! Using a jig and block plane is perfectly fine.

@@olegkazarin8321 Check out "Mike Farrington" on youtube, he has a awesome tutorial that will help you get started! Believe the video is just called Kumiko how to

This is not a kumiko workshop. This is kindergarden. If someone else does 99% of the work and then gives you all the pieces to assemble, it`s just a bit of fun with wood. Damnit he even sanded and framed it for you. Might aswell just buy a nice kumiko panel.
In that case Naoki sans kindergarten is the best place in the world to learn to play with wood.
What a horrible, nasty man you seem to be.
И на хера это?
