    Robert you amaze me in a lot of ways, one of them is that you actually respond to almost everyone who comments
    You are a true gentleman even though you take some abuse from the comments
    Good luck in your ventures,
    What comes to mind with this, is to strap this on an electric car and you can help charge the system, strap on some piezos on the shocks and you can get some additional electric shocks as well, and so on

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  9 років тому

      +Steve Allwest Cheers mate - I like the idea of the piezo - personally i think there are a ton of ways of reclaiming or harvesting energy in cars - but i particularly like your piezo idea. Also, it doesn't matter what you say - someone, somwhere is going to disagree lol

    • @Allwestconstruction
      @Allwestconstruction 9 років тому

      +Robert Murray-Smith I agree, there are a lot of systems that waste usable energy collectors, the radiators of cars would make a great thermal electric generator, hot water and a fan already in place to cool off the other side Ha! It would be fun to come up with a list of all the way s to harvest energy that normally just gets wasted
      Cheers

    One more thing I had an idea to use a hollow pipe for the Tesla turbine shaft. The bearings are on the outside and somehow you keep it centered by welding or soldering the outside and just bolting the turbine disc in a large assembly.

    I bet you look forward to going to work each day, I've watched a lot of your video's this week and love them (well not so much the early ones due to the sound quality). I was thinking about the video you did on micro-etching aluminium and wondered is a similar process would help, I am going to build one/many but I am yet to buy some needed test equipment. Happy hunting.

    Robert, that's beautiful! Tesla Turbines kick ass!
    One thing I've been studying lately on these turbines.... Tesla upgraded his design in 1922 with an improved star shaped spacer between each disk. While it certainly makes it harder to machine using hand tools, the star spacer does a couple of important things. First of all it gives the turbine a tremendous amount of starting torque. When the rotor is at rest those star spacers turn the turbine into a bucket style turbine. Then once the fluid moves in laminar spirals the majority of the energy has been removed from the fluid and it barely impacts those spacers. Secondly the spacers stop the fluid from creating turbulence near the axle. Check out his 1922 patent on the "Improvements in the Construction of Steam and Gas Turbines".
    I'd love to see if you can figure out a way to make those star spacers without a CNC or laser cutter and still have a balanced machine.

      +Robert Murray-Smith Apparently when Nikola Tesla tested his turbine in Edison's steam facility in New York, the turbine failed, but not for the reason you'd think. Most people think the disks ruptured, but what happened is the turbine produced TOO much torque and the axle twisted and failed. They didn't have the Chro-moly style axles that we can make today.

    Have ya seen where they place it in a vacuum pressure box with a input from a hot water source and the temp difference under vacuum drove the turbine past 100,000 rpm and kept going till it runs out of heat source. Developed By iEnergySupply . Has youtube vid called self sustaining two stage tesla turbine. Brilliant design

  • @gerryjamesedwards1227

    The tesla turbines could make tidal power a reality. Imagine a very large sealed chamber cut out of a cliff. The chamber communicates with the sea at the bottom, at the level of low water. The top funnels any air from below to the input of a bank of tesla turbines. As the tide rises, water will enter the cavity, forcing air through the bank of turbines. At slack water, high tide, valves will switch the air feeding the turbines to the outside, while the exhausts will lead into the chamber, so that air will be drawn through the turbines throughout the ebbing tide. At slack water, low tide, the valves will switch back to their original positions. What do you think?

    Once it's put together, how do you hook it up to your house to power everything, or do you need to do that at all?

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  7 років тому

      it would depend - you would certainly need some control electronics and then it would depend if it worked or not and there is no guarantee of that - this is just an interesting idea there is a lot of work to do before you think of hooking it up to your house

    I thought this was going to be the antenna ground thing with like a hundred or more bridge rectifiers on a board to convert ac radio into power that could recharge batteries with man boards in parallel. And you use more than one antenna and ground for each ten or twenty stack of boards. Using some sort of one Henry Choke for a kind of ac flywheel with capacitors or Large 60 watt piezos.

      First in this video it isn't clear how he is generating electrical energy but yes from a theoretical point of view. Just remember you don't get something for nothing and recovering energy from say gas or diesel engine exhaust will have other engineering problems such as creating a higher exhaust back pressure and soot buildup in the generator.

    • @andyjones7121
      @andyjones7121 6 років тому

      al smith
      Robert gives info to apply to projects, not start to finish "how-tos". Some people will use air, some water or steam. Some want electricity, others turn propellers or pullies, some attach two and make a turbo/ pump/ vacuum.
      The point isn't to get more energy than you start with, but to make waste/ ambient energy useable, solve storage issues, and fit specific situations. Think of the possibilities.
      Could you use solar cells to pressurize hydrogen and oxygen to spin a turbine? Could you ignite it to produce steam to power another turbine? Could you liquefy oxygen or nitrogen, stored for later use? Cryogenic cycles use turbines to cool gas as it works and expands. This cold exhaust gas enters a heat exchanger to cool the inlet gas before the turbine, cooling further, eventually liquefying due to this feedback effect. These turbines don't produce friction heat like piston or vane air motors, have no problem with condensation, and they're easy to build.
      Your comment literally applies to every energy conversion that's ever happened. Look up the Rankine cycle, the Claude cycle (a cryogenic cycle) and Carnot efficiency if you want to begin learning.

    If you could; please humour me and explain how to convert your used vehicles surfaces and drive trains into either a link among the multiple same in order to connect such a combined forces to a main generator or explain how to do the same for home by using the differential and welding the tin pieces like fenders and hoods after you shape then into blades to the rims and connecting that to a regular generator that is big enough to run completely everything including charging our cars. Thank you and I for one don't have the will nor the time to explain further; other then if you try to find this online; good luck; it's not in any share holders' best interests. I could explain in full details but I think you understand enough to help everyone understand it better. 5000 watts generator would be fine charging maybe two batteries that would then assist during those times with not quite enough wind and maybe for those days; change gears if you install the transmission(but that's a bit more of hard thing to implement though). Cheers. I will if I must but need to try passing the buck here. Thanks again.

    They are out of balance and you might want to fix that LOL. I might be helpful to mention what bearing you are using and what you are using for an axle. Too much skipping of details and you will leave the beginner budding mad scientist out in the cold where they might stay. They will face plenty of challenges and learning experiences if they have the initiative to scale it up or down in size, or change its orientation say from vertical to horizontal.
    There are several ways to test this for a car, from models, to go-kart, to pickups. My interest in them would be for ground power concepts like home, or mobile power. After all, we can;t always depend on lightning strikes to recharge the graphene.

    Horrible sound. Painfully loud music, extremely noisy and distorted audio. Next time use a mic, not a potato.

      I looked at your channel - it looks like you don't make videos - i guess watching them as opposed to making them makes you an authority? - lol - mate - try doing yourself then critisising

      I wouldn't rise to this mate - the guy is clearly shouting for attention - but if he persists in rudeness he will be banned
