  • The iconic Statue of Liberty was plunged into darkness on the evening of March 7, after a power outage caused its lighting system to fail.
    All that could be seen for hours were the monument's headlights and lamp, with the flood lighting returning later in the night.
    Here, as night falls, the flood lights beneath the statue fail to switch on.
    Some social media users credited the event as a supportive nod to International Women's Day, March 8.
