teaching is my dream job, and has been since i was 7. it’s so refreshing and encouraging to see a teacher who still loves her job. it’s so hard to want to continue in education when so many teachers fall out of love with it every day. so sad to see so many teachers disrespected everyday.
Your map tapestry is SO cute! One of my FAVORITE things to do when studying maps is mystery Skype (is Skype even still around lol maybe it’s mystery meets or mystery zoom now). Anyways, basically you do a google meet with another classroom in the US. Then the kids use their map skills to ask questions to figure out what state they think they are talking to. Asking questions like ‘are you west of the Mississippi River?’ Does your state border the Atlantic Ocean?’ Etc. It’s super fun! Love your content as always, definitely my fav. teacher UA-camr!
I actually had my students use. markers to color Christmas ornaments of various designs. I laminated them after and they looked amazingly like stained glass. The colors popped. Your disco balls reminded me of that with the bright colors.
Welcome back! It was so nice to see another Vlog. I’m glad you were able to take a little bit of a break, but we missed you! It might be a lot to ask, but I’ve always loved your backpack and I was wondering which one it is. I particularly love the color.😊

Hi Katie, 1. You look pretty. 2. Way to go on inspiring your students to think about their futures because in my view that's what every teacher in every school should be doing because that can also help with classroom management as well. 3. Way to go on providing ways for your students to get some of their party out of them. I hope that there is a way that you are able to establish a standard and set chat time for the students so that they students can catch up with their friends especially for the fact that there are those students who are only able to see and engage with their friends at school. I hope that the rest of the school year goes well and moreover they continue that road to ending up loving you at the end of the school year. - Dwight
Absolutely love your vlogs Katie! I watch from Australia 😊 An idea for a future vlog - talking about your experiences studying education at University. Just a thought. Enjoyed this vlog. Thanks for taking the time to make them x
Hi Katie! 😊 so a few questions. 1) where did you get your black turtleneck from? I love it and I can’t seem to find ones I like anymore. 2) do your students go almost all day before they eat lunch? Not that it’s in your control. 3) I hope you don’t take this as a negative comment, but I’ve been watching your first year vlogs again until now and you just don’t seem as happy anymore😢 I see someone who went from loving her job and all that came with it almost everyday to someone who can’t wait to get the week over with. I love your videos and I’m learning so much from you, but it seems like your joy for teaching is still in Alabama. Maybe it’s the vlogging that’s causing you to lose your joy too, I know for so many people, in reality, when they share their lives with the world, it’s harder for them to handle than they imagined it. Anyways, I just miss seeing the joy in you for what your doing.
Happy New Year! How often does your school do STAR testing? We do it at the beginning of the school year and then at the end of each trimester. I know of a school that did it monthly.
I try to leave nothing ungraded by working on it a little everyday! I have also just learned to not take everything for a grade - check with your teammates and ask what they take as a grade too!
I was look forward to your videos. Quick question: what do you use for small group at your table? Do you have a resource that focuses on the phonics skill of the week more than reading level? I really want to find something that is geared for 2nd-4th grade levels but focused more on skill and not fluency/comprehension. I’m up for any suggestions 😊
Most of my phonics resources are geared towards first graders since that’s what I taught previously! When we practice the phonics skill in third I use whiteboards to practice writing words and identifying the skill of the week and then use the decodable texts that match in our curriculum and practice reading them for fluency
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary See, we don’t have decodables that are geared towards the phonics skill. The books are focused more reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. We have HMH Into Reading. When I taught 1st and 2nd grade, we had paper decodables that were phonics skill based. That program was Reading Street.
It was in your older videos. One that had what students were to do independently while you worked with small groups. I’ve been struggling with what my high group should be doing to help their reading skills. Typically I have a spelling packet and the vocabulary guidebook. However that doesn’t really take them that long to do.
Teaching is my dream also! I don't worry about other teachers I just continue to inspire and motivated as many students and teachers as I can!

We do STAR once a nine-weeks for most students… some that we are monitoring for intervention take it an additional time per nine-weeks
You should check out 99 math for math fluency. It is fun for the kids and takes all the data for you :)
YESSS we love 99math!!
Do you use Wonders for reading?
We use a curriculum called My View
Also, I’m not sure about how much you grade but I’ve been trying to catch up on grading since the beginning of the school year. Any suggestions ?

I was wondering if you can share a pdf of your small group work.
What work in particular?
