I recall one of the closest real events to this was Canada hockey team of NHL pros first meeting ''amateur'' USSR players and losing the first game badly. It was called Summit Series 72... Canadians were drinking and smoking cigars in their free time and having fun (pretty much treating first game like Apollo fight vs Drago) while Soviets had proper diet and training camp most of the year and proper coaching. At the end Canada won the series with 4 wins vs 3 Soviet ones, but it was very close and they were actually behind the Soviets and pretty much only at the end, like here, outclassed the opposition

A lot of this was because the Soviet leaders wanted to dominate sports and so they tried to use any research they could to make them better. They succeeded in a lot of ways and failed in others. All in all they made a lot of contribution to modern day physical training science.

He was hungry and eager to prove himself against the best, doing whatever he needed to do to get the fight Rocky’s management was trying to avoid. When Clubber wins, he gives Rocky a rematch right away. Rocky wins after rediscovering himself and proving to himself he was a real champion. This movie was about Rocky dealing with himself more than Rocky dealing with Lang.

That machine stabilizes the shoulders therefore allowing you to exert more force without possible injury. He did his research indeed. Some rotator cuff work isnt usually shown during these types of montages since it isnt a huge crowd muscle/exercise.

In the final overhead strict press drago does with the barbell he’s lifting between 405-440lbs which for the time frame he was training in the Rocky universe would’ve made that a world record press & he’s competing in that category with men MUCH HEAVIER than himself. No he wasn’t even close to 261 like stated in the movie. That’s a good perspective on how strong Drago is supposed to be, lifting 20-30lbs more than the world record when he’s 100-150lbs lighter, when not even weight training strictly and being sub 9% body fat. So basically superhuman, even for being on gear. Strict pressing 4.5 plates overhead is absolutely elite even for today’s standards.
