It was really hard to make this video. There are so many details that I had to film and put synchronically to my text, also I failed with install order few times, then I tried different ways to install WOG (and failed!). Also it seems easy to just "explain how it works", but when I started to put everything together I realized that even I'm confused, so I had to re-voice parts of the text and re-film stuff. A little late to the party, but wanted to say thanks for posting this! Loved this game back in the day, and replayed it fairly recently when the HD version came to Steam. BUT I had no idea about the add-on content!! Now i can dip my toes back into the glory that is Heroes of Might & Magic 3 for some new (to me) content. Oh, BTW the game is only $2.49 on GoG right now, so being late to the party actually turned out to be perfect timing.
This was a great review/tutorial on how to install mods...after having 3 versions of heroes 3(the old one i have from way back, the hd version on steam and the complete version on gog), the last one i'm actually glad i bought...i wouldn't have seen/known these mods and how a great job the modders did with this old yet very addictive and still playable game...The best part is that now the game is at a higher resolution...Thank you
Wow thank you so much!, I recently found my copy of HOMM3C (on CD!) and started to play through the campaign but wanted more, watched a few videos and WOW this game exploded, wanted to get some mods but had ZERO clue where or how to get anything other then HOA and noticed it doesn't have a lot of features other ppls did, this is a great help thank you good sir for resurecting a favourite of mine(not to mention an HD "remake" of HOMM2 !!)
By far your best video. It's a shame it doesn't have as many views as others. It just shows how low the franchise has fallen since Ubisoft bought it. Few people play it these days.
i went via the steps advised and had an error, I fix it by: install the game in a different folder than program files, i created heroes3 folder in C for example do not install the HD update as it will be prompted later install the hota updater and proceed with launching the game, you should be prompted to update and HD will be installed enjoy

This is a super good video. I think like every TBS fan played this in the olden days. But getting it to run nowadays with all the nice new stuff is cancer if you are trying it on your own!
Try to install New Vegas with 200+ mods and then do a crunch of the mods in a Merge and then you shall know what is to truly curse and feel despair and confusion. this was very straightforward and simple, and the game is great I played it when i was young.
The last one you can just install on different username, and try to run using that username trough using your main account. Just, hold shift click 2nd mouse-> run as different user. Install again complete heroes 3 on different user account and different disk spot. It will take additional space, but you can just run it also whenever from your main windows account.
what would have helped me was an indication of which of the above are to be installed ON TOP of your HoMM3 folder. it seems to me that it's the first two but I wasn't sure and when it came to installing the third one, i had to guess that I'm NOT installing it on top of HoMM3 folder.
Could you please clarify if it is possible to combine the Third Upgrade Mod with Horn of the Abyss or any other mods, except HD? Also, could you confirm if it is not advisable to install Horn of the Abyss and HD mode by clicking on them in the ERA 3 Launcher, just like you did for Wake of Gods and Master of Puppets? it was very good instruction and very helpful. However, you should start by saying DO NOT install Heroes 3 Complete Edition in Program Files from the start. I've waisted a lot of time by installing and uninstalling different Heroes 3 games. I'm enjoying playing the games though :-)
Yeah, but I installed in Program Files and everything was completely fine for me. So only after this video I saw that people are having problems about that.
Had this same issue, move all the game files to a new folder outside your program files, i did it on my desk top. then try again. Seemed to work for me.
Great video The only thing I don't like after installing the mods is that the battles became automated. Is there a way to set it manual again? if I don't accept the results it does let me fight, but I would prefer not to know how the auto battle went before I do it
hi, i think master of puppets is the best, because you can change creatures stats, skills and you have town editor, which is the best if you want to test, how run modded by you.

With my friends your instructions work, when I try to install horn of the abyss I can´t choose the folder because it says it doesn´t contain the game (it does!!) I tried uninstalling three times, all of the versions, deleting the folders, but doesn´t work :_(
Try this: Uninstall everything. Cleanly. Now Install Heroes 3 Complete in default directory.DEFAULT. Do not change anything. Then Install HD mod using administrator rights. Also leave everything as it is. Do not change any directory or anything. Just next/next/next and OK. Now HOTA - again - administration rights and next/next/next/OK. Do not change anything. If you can't install everything with your eyes closed - you are doing it wrong. EDIT: If your disc is named not C: - that may be the problem. Default directory is C:\
I was successfully able to do the initial HD mod, no problem. But when I tried installing Horn of the Abyss, it would not allow me to install in that same folder (mentioned Program Files). I just let GOG install to default location, so I thought that would be ok. Apparently HotG doesn't like "Program Files" (and yes, I tried installing using admin rights as well).
This is video is complicated only if you overthink it. :) Great video love it. BTW, I have one big problem though. At the end of the turn (day), My artifacts transfer randomly among my heroes, and My heroes also equip artifacts randomly as well . Do you know how can I fix that?

Installed but having problems everything is working perfect in the wake of gods, but as soon as I make the first attack both in campaign or single player game, the game crashes right away. I can play no problem untill I make the first attack, can somebody help me solve this problem :(.

No, I don't think you should uninstall it, it's completely separate game anyway. Although don't install it to the same place or something :) You know, map files may mess up

Haha, for me as well. I found that Horn of the Abyss is in the Goldilocks' zone for me: not complicated and filled with various new stuff that is game engine friendly.
Each Secondary Skill gives you class points, if you have enough you can promote to a new class and advance your secondary skills to Master or even Grandmaster@@CoolSenpai Right and Left click hero portrait in hero screen to get more information.

When i click install Wake of Gods in the launcher though, a pop-up message appears saying in short that "the program can not be startet due to an incompability with 64-Bit version of windows". (im on windows 10) Could someone tell my what it could be and how to make this work? Thx
I haven't played HoMM3 since I was 5, and I remember that there was a town looking like pyramids (not the Pavillion) which contained the: Rouges,Mummy,Halflings,Peasants,Nomads etc. was that a mod? Cuz I bought the complete edition recently and I can't find it.(If it was a mod do anyone know it?)
unfurtunately h3 launcher isnt working to me. says some strange things wich i dont know what, but isnt opening update at all, in this case cant install wog
Thanks for the help! I encounter an issue that several maps are failed to open. I guess the issue is because the characters are unknown (cyrillic). Is there a fix for this or i just have to delete the maps?
You can install Russian language into your windows. You will still understand nothing, but at least maps should run :) [Just a guess, I don't have Russian in my Windows, I just ignore maps like that, but if you are interested you can at least try the trick :) ]
I need help. Maybe I’m just not getting it. But when I bought heroes 3 complete from gog it doesn’t download the files. It plays through their app. I also tried downloading it with ‘download offline backup game installers” and it won’t work that way either. I need some help. Please anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
I don't know. For example, it crashes for me all the time or doesn't launch at all. I have no idea why. I excluded it from this video because I couldn't make it work properly. Although I remember like 3 years ago I was playing it without problems on different PC :/
I've got a problem with the MOD HD+ from nexus and in game music, it's only partially playing. Starts with no intro music, when I launch the game. The sound is there, even the battle opening music is there, but the're no regular music, which really kills the vibe :( Anyone had the same problem?
Have you tried my method instead of downloading from nexus? Also from what I've heard music problems usually are with pirated version of the game, but I think in that case there are no music at all. Hmm...
I have a question @ColdBeer : I newly got back to the game but I realized that I bought Heroes 3 complete edition on ubisoft. Do those mods work on ubisofts version or only on GOGs ?

You can take a small opaque rectangle of duct tape and put it on the screen in that place. Defeat and overcome your enemy in MacGyver style!

So Wake of Gods isn't compatible with Horn of the Abyss, right? You can't mix them, and have to choose which one to play?

i cant install expansion but im already in hd+ and can edit creatures.. im running 1080p but maps smaller tnx btw

Problem solved :P my anti-virus broke the update of the launcher thats it, turned it of, started again and all went good :)

Those are all neutral units. I think WoG has a neutral city script that can be enabled, and then you have this town instead of Conflux.

unfurtunately h3 launcher isnt working to me. says some strange things wich i dont know what, but isnt opening update at all, in this case cant install wog

I encounter an issue that several maps are failed to open. I guess the issue is because the characters are unknown (cyrillic). Is there a fix for this or i just have to delete the maps?
You can install Russian language into your windows. You will still understand nothing, but at least maps should run :) [Just a guess, I don't have Russian in my Windows, I just ignore maps like that, but if you are interested you can at least try the trick :) ]
I need help. Maybe I’m just not getting it. But when I bought heroes 3 complete from gog it doesn’t download the files. It plays through their app. I also tried downloading it with ‘download offline backup game installers” and it won’t work that way either. I need some help. Please anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

I don't know. For example, it crashes for me all the time or doesn't launch at all. I have no idea why. I excluded it from this video because I couldn't make it work properly. Although I remember like 3 years ago I was playing it without problems on different PC :/

I've got a problem with the MOD HD+ from nexus and in game music, it's only partially playing.
Starts with no intro music, when I launch the game. The sound is there, even the battle opening music is there, but the're no regular music, which really kills the vibe :(
Anyone had the same problem?
Have you tried my method instead of downloading from nexus? Also from what I've heard music problems usually are with pirated version of the game, but I think in that case there are no music at all. Hmm...

Do those mods work on ubisofts version or only on GOGs ?
It is the same version, and the mods should work. Never tested though.
