My experience with an employee discount on company stock is a cautionary tale. It was purchased at a 15% discount, and it was the best price from either the beginning or the end of the quarter. I put my employer match into my 401K and everything else I could possibly spare into the company stock. My company made 2 mistakes.
    1. They bought another company that was bad on paper.
    2. They strategically positioned themselves to be the sole provider for an environmental service required by law in Brazil, we quickly realized environmental laws are more like guidelines there
The stock prices plummeted. They decided to cancel the benefit for investing in the US. I decided to cash out and put the money to a down payment for a house. I came out even, but now that I understand the time value of money, I actually lost BIG

I looked into the DESPP for my company. They required employees to hold the stock for two years before selling 😅.
No, thanks! IMHO, that defeated the whole point at buying the stock at a discount.
Matched 401k contributions are a whole other ballgame. Those employer-matched dollars to the 401k are free money! Unfortunately, that's not something my company offers.

    • @LegacyAirTech
      @LegacyAirTech 7 місяців тому +3

If your ESPP has a required hold time before selling the stock, I completely agree with being cautions about putting all your eggs in one basket. If your ESPP allows you to instantly turn around and sell the stock you just got at a discount, its free money as long as you remember to log onto your brokerage and sell the stocks after they are purchased. Definitely read your ESPP rules thoroughly before putting too much money towards it

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. Not sure your age but you should be slowly decreasing the percentage of your portfolio in individual stocks overtime. From about 30ish onward if you trim a percentage of your portfolio that’s individual stocks and take what you would contribute to them to ETFs, mutual fund, bonds, REITs, etc your portfolio will be much safer.

My company offers the company stock in the 401k but doesn’t have a discount however I still invest. The main reason i invest 10% is because I like the company. It’s a regional bank and they’ve been steadily growing for years and just seeing the people they’ve hired, their goals and the industry experience I think it is a worthy investment. I am here everyday and I know the leadership. Working for a company especially if it’s relatively small or mid size is a great opportunity to get insights into a single company. However if I notice things aren’t going well (beyond the stock price) I will gladly sell but so far they’ve handled the banking issues pretty well and came out even stronger and I got a hefty discounted price after bank failures occurred on the opposite side of the country. I bought at a 35% discount essentially.

The longer you wait to hire an advisor the less you will pay in fees. Imo the best bet is getting a rather large portfolio built up on your own, and then using an advisor in the latter half of your life as you approach retirement. I personally plan to get an advisor when I become overwhelmed with portfolio management. Right now I have a small portfolio and it takes zero time to manage.

For guys always using charts on compounding, I wonder why they don't show what just 1.5% does to returns over two decades. Just don't forget at the end of the day, their free content, while good and helpful, is at the end of the day a sales pitch. Take the free good advice but don't fall for the sales pitch. The recession was 2022.
We are in a hyperinflation economy now so, the stock market is going nothing but UP
the FED printer press has not stop
Our government overspending has not stop.
That’s why I don’t think a stock market crash is coming
A 20% correction yes so don’t cry if the S&P goes to 5200-5500 this year lol😂

@@amazinglats6020 We aren't in a state of hyperinflation, that requires percentages much higher.
In order to avoid a crash the Fed will inflate the currency and wages/growth will stagnate in comparison. It's already been a couple years of stagflation. Wage increases haven't compared to inflation.
