Katie, RESPECT!!!!!! I am Haitian. This video filled me with emotion/joy/pride 😍🥰🥺 Your pronunciation was EVERYTHING!!!! When you said you weren’t Haitian I was like WHAT???? You killed it. I’m not vegan but I have subscribed. Will be trying this recipe. BTW we don’t put celery in épis so you did right by skipping that. This video…🙌🏾EXCELLENT🇯🇲❤️🇭🇹
This makes me soooo happy 🥺 thank you so much!

@@KatieMakesItVegan I'm going to find them "chiken"
Yesss!
Girl coming from a Haitian you killed this - my mom and I don’t use celery in our Epice - great accent pronouncing the Creole words- I saw this recipe with jackfruit, it looks so legit with the soy vegan beef!!
Ooo that means so much! Thank you 🙏🏾 and let me know how it goes!
Im reading Mama Lola about a Vodou priestess in Brooklyn in the 70s and 80s and its incredible. Haitian culture is beautiful so thats what brought me here. But now im so excited to find you and your channel. "You shoulda made it yesterday" 😅😅😅😅
Ooo I’ll check that out!
This is an answered prayer. I literally said Lord now that I’m vegan I won’t ever have griot again!!!! Thank you for this ❤
I'm Haitian, girlfriend you did it!!!! I was trying to find a vegan version and here you are! New subbie 💜
Thank you so much! This means so much 🥺♥️
Followed the recipe and i went crazy. Went to Chinatown looking for the vegan soy slice and couldnt find it. Had to substitute for soy cake cube. It was delicious

I had to comment, I ordered the vegan pork chunks and made this today. OMG my Haitian husband loved it. I’m trying to convert him it’s working so far lol.
Thank you for this recipe I followed to a t, the only mistake was adding a bit to much salt but other than that hubby, kids and I loved it 💜
I’m SO happy to hear this! Thank you so much for trying my recipe 🤗♥️

Looks so yummy!! Can’t wait to try! I would love to see a rice and peas recipe from you!
Let me know how it goes! And bet! I got you!
Omg. I just finished watching. I have to try this!!! It looks soooo good. Also I don’t know what Haitian puts celery in their epis, so you’re fine. Thanks so much for making this!!
Okay good! Thank you for watching! Let me know how it goes!
You killed this! ❤
Try a little bit of the celery leaves not the stark 😂 love this recipe thank you
I need to try this one hun looks great😊
Omgg yesss 😍😍 I be wanting my mom to go vegan but she cannot let go of that griottttt but let’s hope this will make her change her mind but I think imma try it with jackfruit cause I’m not sure where to find the soy thingy you used
Yay! Let me know how it goes! The Gardein Beef or pre-made seitan might hold up a bit better. You can get those at Whole Foods or Target!
its the energy for me!!!
Period 😌
Yeah when you said parsley I knew that was gonna taste good 😩
Excellent job!! You are sooo funny 😂😂😂. New subscriber
Sis, you could've fooled with you not being Haitian 🤣 when you said you weren't I laughed as loud as were laughing at the result of your spice. 1st time watching you. Awesome clip sweetheart!💐
Yum!
🤗
Soya chunk. I will try this. Your epis is a little runny and your pikliz is little big. But this looks so right! Love how you decorated with the onions. Thank you for this. Love how you talked with Joy.
Thank you for the tips! And thank you for watching!!
Yes, that joy of hers was overflowing and seeping through the screen. Sis had me smiling the whole time. 😊
YES, please do a rice and peas video!
Bet! 😎
"Tostones taste ashy" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They do 😩🤣
The gardein beefless tips worked well
So excited to try this!!! 😭😭thank you so much!!! 😭😭 Subscribed! 🔥
Yes! Welcome! Let me know how it goes!
did u use regular vegetable oil?
As a Haitian, I do not use celery in my epis.
What is wrong with celery?
Interesting, the fried soja does look like griot.
I’m haitian! You don’t need celery in your epis yuck lol
Haha thank God 🤣
Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve been looking for videos for vegan Haitian food do you have a substitute for soy products?
Thank you for watching! I think seitan would work really well here! If not perhaps sliced oyster mushrooms? Let me know what you try!
They say green jackfruit in the can works well. I have not tried it.
This looks great!! We eat plantains too🤤. Is there something else I can use bc I can’t see soy either 🥺 I really want to make this bc I miss eating this so badly
I've been thinking about this a lot. I think seitan would work well here (they have pre-made ones at Whole Foods). Fried tofu from the Asian Market would also work well!
Oyster mushrooms, king blue, king trumpet, chicken of the woods all mushrooms that have meaty taste
I’m going to try it with king mushrooms and let you know how it goes
Canned green jackfruit. I think Trader Joe's or asian stores.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️
♥️♥️♥️
And when you're serving pickles always use a plastic spoon never use a metal because that affects the longevity of the pickles.
I'm Haitian, and no one in my circle has ever used celery in epis
Okay cool! Thank you for telling me and for watching!
@@KatieMakesItVeganstill looked good
Very good! Only advice I would give is to not use animal products when labeling the meals as vegan. I see you used chicken flavored better than bouillon in the epis. So this would make everything seasoned with the epis not vegan. I use the vegetable flavored one for my meals/seasonings. Hope this helps
I used a certified vegan flavored “chicken” bouillon. Watch carefully before giving “advice.”
I stand corrected
LOL you did well 🇭🇹
Yay! Thank you!!!
Thats why I dont like green plantain... it's ashy... lmboo. It belongs in plantain porridge only
Yes, you get me! 🤣
I saw where a lady fried the plantain flat then she topped it with a piece of griot and pukliez and said it was delish. Maybe if it would be sweet plantain it would be a sweet spicy and savory bite.....😂😂😂
Nahhhh 🥺🥺🥺😝😝
Me when I saw the title 👀
👀
Celery not needed
Okay cool, thanks!
