I saw the title and thought, that timeline doesn't need explaning. After watching the video, I realized how much I had forgetten or never noticed. Great job IGN! Well worth a watch!

I really, really wish the whole "8 years later" thing never happened in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Rule number one--never pin the timeline down unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure.
Honestly I'm going with explanation number 2; they just made a mistake and it really should have said "4 years later" not "8 years later."
@@troodon1096 Oh it definitely was a mistake. That's why they have to be very careful when they pin down the timeline to a specific time. There was no need to do that. I don't at all believe that Avengers happened in 2008....not when Fury tells Captain America he's been frozen for nearly 70 years after the unthawing. 2008 would only be 63 years. Avengers has to be 2012. The "8 years" script could have easily been "Queens NY, sophomore year". I think that would have been the safer approach and would have suited the timeline enthusiasts.
Well I think it’s no.3 because when doctor strange happens in the same year and in that movie he is caught by Wong messy around with the time stone he’s says to dr “you’re not just messy with time continuum, you’re breaking it!” And also he keeps dormamu in that loop for ages so maybe it was dr strange that broke the timeline and this all comes back in, in both captain marvel and avengers endgame!

If that drawing was done by a 12/13 year old you wouldn't be saying "this kid is going places". Unless we're assuming he's got more than one kid who isn't mentioned - which is entirely possible

If Cap went in the ice in 1945, and woke up 66 years later, how does cap wake up in 2009. If you were to do 1945+66, it adds up to 2011. Thats whats confusing me. I could be wrong, idk

Doctor Strange didn’t happen in 2016. I think it happened more around 2008. We see in Thor Ragnorok & Infinity War how much he was developed while in Doctor Strange he only knew some stuff. Not to mention that he had his named dropped as a potential threat in Captain America Winter Soldier
he was in the time loop with Dormammu for a few hundred years.
Just because he was mentioned in Project Insight, it doesn't mean that he is already a sorcerer. He was a renowned surgeon, already popular and Hydra doesn't like it. Personally, I think Doctor Strange's accident happened just after Avengers 1, and his magic study and the rest of his movie spanned to 2016.
I think Dr Strange crash happened somewhere between 2008 and 2011. Before the crash dr strange has someone offer him a case where a military colonel broke his back while operating a mechanical suit. Reference to Iron Man 2 where Tony Stark shows the failed copies of mechanical armors
Doctor Strange happened right around the time of Avengers 1.
Rewatch the film. When he's getting dressed before his crash the watch clearly puts the date as Feb 2016.

The Avengers actually takes place in 2009 I think. If you watch the intro to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it says "8 years later" after the intro with Adrian Toomes takes place. Which would work out that Homecoming would be set in 2017 if The Avengers took place in 2009.
Should be noted it doesnt match with the other films, since CW claims it was 4 years ago (2012), not 8

No it actually does match with the other films. Ross says the Avengers have been operating for 4 years without any other authority watching over them. So if Winter Soldier took place in 2013 then Civil War takes place in 2017 and it perfectly matches up since shield was destroyed 4 years ago.

The first Avengers takes places in 2009 not 2012. In the argument scene with nick Fury and the avengers on the ship nick Fury said thor came to earth last year. And iron man 2 still takes place in 2008 which means hulk and Thor also still is in 2008.

fyi doctor strange's accident takes place at around 2009 we know this based on one of the accidents his "agent" gives him to treat which is a test pilot that broke his back on an experimental iron man suite made by hammer industry. that particular accident is shown during iron man's hearing in iron man 2 at the beginning of film as he hacks the screens and show how far away the countries of the world are from creating iron man suits. he shows the court a clip from hammer industry where a pilot in the iron man suit completely twists his back 180 degrees and hammer said that he survived the accident. it took doctor strange a long time (about 7 years) to recover from the accident, find kamar taj and become skilled enough to beat kacilious and dormamu

In Agents of SHIELD they do state it happened in 2012 and in IW Stark mentions it had been 6 years since Avengers, so it is 2012 and Spider-MAn got ti wrong

-While Iron Man 1 took place in 2008, many months have passed within the film. Tony announced himself as Iron Man in 2009.

AND
-the final scene of Captain America: The First Avenger is in 2011 (just before the Avengers which is in 2012).

Good video, most people struggle figuring it out. It’s not all that hard though. The only thing is I don’t think Avengers takes place in 2012, because Spiderman: Homecoming supposedly takes place 8 years later & came out in 2016, or vise versa. I’m almost certain Dr. Strange was supposed to take place over the course of years.
A clue is that Strange is considering new cases and one is about a pilot that had spinal damage from an experimental flight suit. Could be Rhody post Civil War

I'm pretty sure The Avengers 1 takes place in 2009, and Homecoming takes place in 2017, 8 years later. Which just means Captain America 1 and Thor 1 takes place in 2008-2009 right after Iron-man 1
Hoemcoming is set in 2016, since it picks up 2 months after CW which is set in 2016 and the Russos confirmed the 8 year gap is incorrect

I believe The Avengers takes place in 2008-2009, a just a few months after thor, captain america, and the 2 ironman movies. This means that homecoming, black panther, civil war, and antman still take place in 2015-2017, which makes a lot more sense for me, so I'm going with this theory to explain the timeline

I love IGN. And I love the MCU. But it seems like neither of them care enough to include the tv series, one shots, and netflix/Hulu originals that supposedly take place in the same “shared universe”

In agents of shield they give maria hill the location of loki's septor who gives the avengers the location which starts affecting every event onwards.

I always shrugged off Thanos in earlier avengers movies. I figured he was just some random crazy dude and I never realized the connection, even now after seeing Infinity War. I figured he just came out of nowhere and I thought infinity war was his first appearance. This timeline has really cleared up all my confusion, so thanks.

Didn’t Age of Ultron happened in 2020 because Captain America said in Age of Ultron - “that man died in the ice 75 years ago” meaning that Ultron happened in 2020 if Captain America crashed the jet in 1945. Also if he did crash then, it would make Captain America waking up in 2014/2015 because Nick Fury said “you’ve been asleep for almost 70 years”

Neo Knight you should watch them in order of release date. that way everything connects and links up with each other including all the post credit scenes, they were published in a certain order for a reason
dr strange is before winter soldier because they mention steven strange in a hydra base
Kevin Feige and the director of Doctor Strange have both confirmed that Strange was still a surgeon at the time of Winter Soldier and remember Strange has a trophy dated 2016 and his watch says the date of his accident was in Feb 2016, so the film does take place After TWS
also do not forget that Sitwell says they will kill anyone that is a threat to Hydra Now or could become one in the future, so people that arent threats like Strange will be killed. (Dont forget that Project Insight was made to take out potential threats before they could became threats, which is why Cap was not okay with it)
As far as I've seen Fury's big week takes place on 2010 and the discovery of Captain America takes place on 2011. The avengers then assembled in 2012
Also Iron Man 3 took place in December of 2012.

I always thought that Dr Strange came in earlier because he is mentioned very briefly in avengers assemble (I think??). this would explain why he is so comfortable in his position and seems much more experienced than many other heros in infinity war
