Your ears would never hear that sound. It’s a Geiger Counter. A device used to measure radioactive particles in the air. The more frequently it beeps, the more radiation it is detecting.

The explosion’s aftermath did indeed spread across the entirety of Europe and not long after that also reach the other side of the globe.

You’re both right and wrong. While Chornobyl is how Ukrainians called it, Chernobyl is the official English translation of it aswell. Ukraine didn’t leave the USSR until 1991 when Chernobyl’s units 1 and 2 were created in 1970, 3 and 4 following in 1983. Both versions are correct.
