I"m a HUGE fan of the WIZ movie and this is the FIRST and ONLY "stage" version of the emerald city sequence that i've enjoyed as much as the movie. I LOVED it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't stop watching this.. Flawless gorgeous choreography. Perfect mix of hustle, vogueing. I have directed this musical many times. and I truly wish my choreographer was as a perfect as the Waackers.... We got close but this is amazing!..And such a great musical memory from childhood. Pure magic.
This movie was SO awesome! And this scene made it the reason I loved it so much. It awakened me to so many styles of music as a kid. It never gets old!
Absolutly love this tribute Mr. Man in the White Hat Pants and Gloves was giving it to me all day! Keep up th amazing work my friends and feel free to come to Arizona for performance.
Yes, that is Richard Priors voice. He was in that part of the movie. But it is not "his" song. Quincy Jones produced the soundtrack for this movie. The entire piece is a tribute to the movie, "The Wiz", including the dancers, actors, singers etc. For anyone who is a real fan of the movie they would understand the concept of this humble adaptation in it's entirety.
Wow. This really respected the old. Dude in the front on the red scene was killin it. They all killed it. Wished the lighting couldve been stronger but the dancing was incredible. Then the original dancer at the end of the video was serving the lessons.
Passion. Beauty. History. I love anything that is urban retro chic (so many adjectives to use here!) lol. I love that they paid homage to the Wiz. Because that was TRUE art!
Bbbbbbbeeeeauuutiful!! What a joy to watch the results of all the hard work you wonderful artists have given. Thank you for sharing and not throwing in the towel. Such an epic scene and replicated tastefully
It’s nothing like gold 💛kill it 🔥🔥🔥 You got to be seen gold Watch out for the new kind You got to have old gold Like some from a gold mine You got to be wearin' gold The twenty four carat kind And once you've shined it up It should ought to make you blind, ah! You got to be seen in gold To show that you're super slick It helps to pay tips and tolls It's the ultimate yellow brick It's the ultimate Gold
I AM a real fan of the original movie... I love this performance too, i think it's VERY well done. Props to everyone involved, this is the best adaptation i have seen so far. It was late when i wrote my comment and i didn´t even realise i was hearing the original track ´Emerald City (Green, Red and Gold)´. So i understand not everybody was listed in the credits, i was just confused as to why Pryor is listed as the artist instead of in the list of performers. Peace
Honestly we have no clue why he was listed either. That was something UA-cam did automatically. Thanks for the props. Hope you are blessed and doing well. :D
Now, NBC should have watched this video and contacted these dancers here for the updated "The Wiz Live!" show. This dance sequence is waaaay better than the over "Voguing" I saw on the Wiz Live show, that was recently broadcast. The reason why I stated this is because these dancers here paid homage to the original and the original music from the movie is being used, which fit with the dancing here. The Wiz live on NBC was alright, but the music it had for the dance sequence to the Emerald City scene with the Voguing, just did not fit, it seriously was lacking something, just my opinion.
+MrJuly1990ish MAAAAAN did you speak the truth. To be honest the entire The production was lacking numerous things. I was blessed to have seen Stephanie Mills in The Wiz twice and I will stick with Dorothy and that production of The WIz until someone can sing with the same level of power and ease Stephanie Mills had at 17. Shanice WIlliams was good but imo she would not have been my first pick for a "new age" Dorothy. Just my opinion.
+MrJuly1990ish I REALLY agree witht his, but its also import to know that this sequence was not part of the original broadway show. But damn it's good.
That’s because the NBC VERSION was based off the musical and Not the movie .... this sequence was created for the movie!! Richard Prior didn’t sing in the movie... however the stage adaptation the Wiz has a song .. so this is Apples and Oranges . OZ Was meant to be over the top... which is why they went the vogue sequence.
is that Richard Pryor's voice? it really sounds like him... why is he not in the credits??? sure he's listed as the artist, but that's not enough now is it?
Why no credit or tribute to the original choreographer for The Wiz, Mr. Louis Johnson? Please give credit where credit is due, and if you borrow, acknowledge your sources people.
+Aster Max No one used Louis Johnson's beautiful choreography. This was our own creation. As a disco based company we were simply inspired by this phenomenal theme. If you watch till the end you will see one of it's original cast members came to give us some history.

The ultimate living, breathing, epitome of the style, the concept, the defintion, the essence of SWAG!!!!!!!

I agree, and I'm my opinion I wanted that wiz live to be more like the wiz and not the wizard of oz.
That’s because the NBC VERSION was based off the musical and Not the movie .... this sequence was created for the movie!! Richard Prior didn’t sing in the movie... however the stage adaptation the Wiz has a song .. so this is Apples and Oranges . Imagine if Michael Jackson had been Locking for the green part of this song in The Wiz. I think that would've been awesome to see.
Could have only been more perfect if the person over lighting covered the dancers and hit them to exact to change with the color scheme.
Yes...that is the ONLY thing I would add...otherwise - Perfect!!!
Great Choreography. Very Slick! Where is the music track from?
the wiz
Yeeeeeessssssss
We are can we see the whole live show???
This only works if you actually have enough light for the white fabric to actually be the color you want.
i knew deep down that this was a waaking song.
Very renaissance coded

Verry nice we use inspiration for you, this is a smalle piece

They should’ve actually had I. Green
THIS WAS AMAMAZING.
WHY AM I JUST NOW SEEING THIS AND TYLER PERRY HAS PUT OUT SO MUCH GARBAGE THIS WAS WAY MORE INTERESTING WOW
Its cute but I don't like it when men don't wear suits. I stayed irritated about their chest and body was not covered..
+laura pruitt Please don't ever go to a gay dance club, then. You will be nothing but annoyed by all the shirtlessness.
Hard pass!!!! The Original will always be the best
seriously???
