You should take a look at Malta, most villages have EVERY street's houses cellar connected either by passages or simply doorways. Most, but not all,, of them built as protection against the Luftwaffe.

I’ve been to the Biltmore and it’s incredibly gorgeous
I stayed at the Biltmore in OK City, OK once. Old, but with a certain elegance to it.
The image you show as George W. Vanderbilt ii is that of his nephew, William K. Vanderbilt ii, known as Willie K.
Strictly speaking the doors in the Biltmore estate are not secret doors. Remember, in 19th century it was customary for doors to blend in with the rest of the walls so that, when they were closed, the room's walls were uniform. This was the esthetic. To my mind, a secret door is only significant if it leads to a secret passage. BTW, I'm glad the Vanderbilts decided to open part of their home for tourism. Not only is it sensible, it shows they respect the great work of old-world craftsmanship enough to preserve it and to share it with everyone.
In the Vanderbilt Estate the room off the Library was actually George Vanderbilt's office. I have seen the room. It has only been opened rarely and has never been renovated. Today it is just an empty room.
And the fact that Anderson Cooper is the Vanderbilt who still owns this Mansion is an absolute riot.

If you're going to comment on accomplishments of the various medieval monarchs, you should at the very least know to whom you are referring.
For future reference, Louis XIV is generally regarded as the greatest monarch in French history, while Louis XVI is regarded as one of, if not the worst.
He famously lost his head, along with his wife Marie Antoinette, during the French Revolution.
Louis XVI was also the grandson of Louis XV, who was likewise the grandson of Louis XIV, who was the son of Louis XIII.
