It was exactly like that, the two are friends, Park Hyo Shin's experience is enormous due to the great musicals he has done and the age difference which is very important in Korea, and V showed his passion for composing among so many artistic skills and while they were having dinner and they drank wine V showed him the song and thus WINTER AHEAD was born, with the support of an English lyricist who supported them. V filmed the 'arte film' in Paris and this version to portray how they created the song, having yet another format with a famous jazz band. V gave us several new opportunities, he was invited to do a duet with Bing Crosby at the family's request because he always sang his songs in lives and vlogs and the version "WHITE CHRISTMAS" was born, there is a live performance called "Le Jazz de V" with band, also invited a band of musicians from other parts of the world to do a special TinyDesk Korea live, in addition to FRI(END)S, ENDING SCENE with IU and the artistic version of WINTER AHEAD because V He is also an actor and we are well served in his short solo career, because he already had STIGMA and SINGULARITY still in the group... remembering that he left all this ready before his military service and will be returning in June.

I love how so many talented music lovers are reacting to Tae more and more. I am not really a kpop or pop fan myself and I don't consider Tae's solo endeavours as pop. I think the jazz pop genre was added by his company to fit him in the kpop mould but he surpassed that a long time ago. His song is jazz, his solo album is r&b, soul with influences from jazz. I admire his pursuit of music he loves. A very dedicated and passionate musician with such a beautiful and unique vocal tone. Thank you for this analysis. I really enjoyed it

Taehyung is really smart and he has a high emotional intelligence; perhaps that, added to his unique personality and genuine kindness, makes him surround himself with unique and special friends. He is surrounded by friends who love, care and sincerely respect him. The interesting thing is that in many of these relationships he is the youngest or there is a significant age difference, as It happens with HyoShin. His mentality, tastes and ambiverted personality make him attractive to people of any age.

Also, I'm sure others have told you, they are very good friends and you were quite close in how this collaboration came to be. Thank you Sir 👏 for explaining the song, bringing out all the layers of emotion and meaning in the video. It was truly captivating and insightful to see how they highlighted the artistry and depth of the music. As for BTS's V, his voice is pure magic-so soulful and rich, it tugs at the heartstrings with every note. Park Hyo Shin’s voice is absolutely mesmerizing, his emotional delivery in Winter Ahead is both haunting and comforting, giving it a timeless, classic feel. Both artists bring something so special to the music, and together they elevate the song to another level of beauty."

Thank you, Sir for your wonderful reaction to this song. Taehyung and Hyoshin are really close friends together with legendary South Korean lyricist Ms. Kim Eana who they both considered as their elder sister with Hyoshin as the second sibling and Taehyung being their youngest sibling. Whenever they get together they will listen to different kinds of music and most of their talks revolves around music while having wine, that's where "Winter Ahead" was born.
When Hyo-shin guested on Ms. Kim Eana's MBC Radio Show "Starry Night" he shared a surprising revelation about his and Taehyung’s duet, "Winter Ahead." He disclosed that the released version of the song is actually a guide recording and not the final studio version. What an amazing singers these two are.

💜Some extra info for you about V....
V's real name is Kim Taehyung. Born in 1995... He joined Big Hit at 15 and was 17 when BTS debuted.
For a Baritone in KPOP, V has widest vocal range (as per real vocal analysts) of Eb2 ~ C6 (3 octaves, 5 notes and 1 semitone), which means he can also hit high octaves with ease.... this vocal assessment was done in 2018 and it is said his vocal range is even greater now.
He is multitalented. A Singer, Dancer, Composer, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, Entertainer, Photographer, Artist, Painter.... a jazz lover he plays saxophone, piano, violin, and learning trumpet
He is very unique personality and one of the funniest in the group( he has a dry humour and cutting wit)
He is known as the Idol of Idols, and is studied by younger artists for his stage presence and facial expressions...
For best example of V (Tae's ) vocal range - his epic and legendary jazz/soul solo
    Stigma - LIVE - ua-cam.com/video/aA453izPcy8/v-deo.html
He also gives ARMY free songs as presents and does OSTs (Original sound track) songs for KDrama's.
He acted in the KDrama series Hwarang
His album Layover is a no skip album... you can check out a medley on his Tiny Desk Concert which is available on UA-cam.
    Have a great day💜

They are both music enthusiasts and that is what makes their bond so special. V has the ability to connect with well with several artists and is able to make life long friendships. I guess that is why he and Hyoshin made such a beautiful song. Both wrote and composed the song and made it work beautifully. I hope they can soon make more music together. Ah! Just exquisite, thank you. As a non-musician listener, I really appreciate hearing the terminology behind what's happening. I did play piano through high school eons ago, so I can partially envision the chords you name, but would never be able to name them by listening. Maybe I need to reinstate ear training exercises.
My piano playing endeavor "ended on a bad note" you could say, when my piano teacher said, "You don't play with any feeling, so I think the piano will only be a hobby for you." Amazing how one sentence from someone I admired crushed my spirit. Nine years of lessons & practice reduced to ash in an instant. There were so many things I wanted to say, but she was an authority figure in my life, so I kept silent & believed her as I had been trained to do.
This is why I'm so appreciative of your knowledge & the thoughtful way you speak about the musicians. Thank you.

Oh, I was waiting for you to post a new reaction video! Your last video about the IU song was so pleasant to watch!
I hoped it would be a reaction to one of BTS's (or members of BTS) songs next time and here we are! Thank you!
It made me happy you enjoyed "Winter Ahead" and the vocals of V and Park Hyo-shin!
I think my favorite part was when you explained what makes this song warm and cozy - I have no background knowledge about music (I just enjoy listening to it) and you explained it in a way I could more or less follow. I think it was a great idea to include you playing piano for it. Also, it was nice when you pointed some details about vocals - I re-discovered this song anew thanks to you :)
Have you ever considered posting song covers on UA-cam? I enjoyed you playing the piano (and singing!) during this reaction a lot. Something about those moments was very comforting, especially when the piano was played at the same time when you were talking a little. Your voice is pleasant to listen to!
I will look forward to more videos from you, especially for BTS music.
Starting with V was a great idea - I think you would like his other songs as well (especially from his album "Layover" - there is live performance available for it (V - Tiny Desk Korea) and I think you would adore the live band playing for it).
Out of BTS songs (group songs), I would recommend you to check "Crystal Snow", "The Truth Untold", and "Paradise".
I think you would enjoy songs "Lie" (it is a solo song of BTS member Jimin) and "First Love" (it is solo song of BTS member SUGA where he basically lead a conversation with his old piano and I think you would enjoy it's lyrics, even though I'm not sure how you would like this style of music).
Again, thank you for posting! This short musical journey with you made me happy :)

V performed a Tiny Desk Concert about 18 months ago, sang 3 songs from hs Layover album. He introduced each of the musicians, it is probable that he is using the same players here.
He does play sax and trumpet (I think), but it is his voice that is so pleasant and warm. I always think his voice is the equivalent of thick treacle, smooth, heavy, slow and thick.

Thank you for this lovely, in-depth review. And you are right, they sound like alternating saxophone and trumpet.
This label 'Jazz pop ballad' is unfortunately coined by his agency as they do not know how to market a product that is not (K)Pop, but all his solo music so far has been inspired by or downright been jazz music. With a bit of NeoSoul thrown in.
But no matter what kind of genre, his voice is the biggest asset and draw. His voice just fits anything ... either a quiet afternoon in front of the fire in Winter, or driving through a beautiful countryside on a summer day - letting your thoughts scatter and dream.

Thank you for your absolutely lovely review of Winter Ahead. Your enthusiasm for the track and your explanation of the instruments, chords, harmonics etc really enhanced what was already a wonderful experience of listening to the song. I believe Taehung and Hyoshin are great friends in real life and Hyoshin has described how their collaboration on this track grew organically from friends just talking about music, to Taehung playing him an idea he had for a song. The result became Winter Ahead, almost exactly as you theorised. I really really really loved the way you approached the music theory segment! It all starts from feelings ! : Why does it feel warm and comforting! The way you contrasted a more classical piece - built on triads and functional harmonies that gives straightforward directionality,- with this song, with richer chords where there's still some kind of harmonic tensions and pull but where the movement comes more from voice leading, with as you pointed out lots of chromatic movements, which explains to me if I understood well why we dont feel as much that need for resolution and how each chord sets a specific comfortable mood on which we want to dwell a little more!
Thanks so much for this exquisite thorough breakdown, and now i think it will help me play it as well! That was really helpful 💜

    • @EverythingMusic-416
      @EverythingMusic-416  2 дні тому +1

You have summarized well, but hopefully I was not misleading, as Winter Ahead IS functional in that is centered around the tonic (Eb) and the movement does lead there (in circle of fifths, and ii-V-I for example), but the 7ths soften all approaches and is richer in voicing. I do hope you do play it for yourself! It's a real treat.

    • @mae__
      @mae__ 2 дні тому

@EverythingMusic-416 Yes you did explain the nuance well don't worry! The way i phrased my comment was a bit radical but i wanted to really highlight the fact that i liked how you articulated this contrast in particular, which i never quite heard explained this way before, so that was refreshing! The voicings help the directionality of the chords but of course you explained well from the start how it does stay in 1 key and there are these beautiful standard jazz progressions as you said 251s etc... and see how each chord is also functional and where they fall in the circle of fifths around the key center, or which scale degree is each chord.. you still conveyed that well!
Thanks again for your response! I really appreciate!💜💜

Really enjoyed your reaction. I am a lover of jazz chord progressions especially because of the emotions they evoke without the listener actually being aware of how he has been taken there. BTS have several songs which do just that. It would be interesting to hear your take on some of them, especially the vocal line songs, HOUSE OF CARDS and THE TRUTH UNTOLD, and LOUDER THAN BOMBS and YOUR EYES TELL, the former being a very good example of just that. I would especially like to hear what you think of they way the voices are used almost as instruments to create the atmosphere they are after???

I I don't know either. For me it's Jazz Ballad and he's not a pop artist when it comes to his solo career. So putting him in the same category as other pop artists is unfair, especially since this type of music is made for a more specific listener or listeners with a broad musical taste. So the comparisons that many make with other soloists within the Kpop industry are absurd.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, personal thoughts, and analysis. You played a lovely piano part that gave us more insight into the song. The MV version has a 23-second piano solo that follows the trumpet solo, a section absent from the cinematic still version.
I was thrilled when you said Park Hyo-Shin sounded like a saxophone and V (Taehyung) sounded like a trumpet. When I heard V’s duet with IU, Ending Scene, I thought he was using his vocals as a woodwind or brass instrument.
I want to add that I love the part where he sings “and the summer starts to burn” as well. It feels like a surrender to an inner conflict. Regarding the peculiar instrument in the last part, I wonder if it was an intentional artistic gesture, given the end of the music video’s portrayal of paradise as anything but.

Its always beautiful when you can feel the creator's passion for their art on the other side of the screen, and I certainly did with this ! really interesting commentary (and demonstration) on what characterizes a piece as 'warm' to the listener, as well as your comparison of their voices to the color of a saxophone and trumpet. I loved the video and I'm sure many others did.

@@EverythingMusic-416 you have to be a bit wary of some solo stans and their skewed perspectives, particularly when it comes to their characterisation of the relationship between these artists and the agency/label (BigHit, and its parent company HYBE).
Like the other members of BTS, Taehyung has a huge amount of control over the music he makes and the way it is promoted. They have been working with pretty much the same support team for the last twelve years and more, and they have a significant stake in the company, which was largely built around them. They fairly recently signed their third set of contracts with BigHit.

You're astute observations are deeply appreciated! You are correct, they are good friends and hung out sharing music. This was a very organic composition. An interesting thing to note for your interest, the vocals are the original guide vocals. V is currently serving in the military and only things pre-recorded before his enlistment can be released. I don't know if the release was planned to take place during his term of service since the company opted to use the guide vocals, but it's clear how good these men's vocals are and that there was not autotune involved!

A side note, I think the company probably made the choice to use the word pop because V is in a K-pop group. I think it does not need the pop association, but it seems to be difficult for the company to acknowledge their artist V, aka Kim Taehyung, has broken out of that genre. He's a serious jazz and R&B lover with a soulful velvety voice. He's found his niche!

@@EverythingMusic-416 Sir to be clear, V aka Kim Taehyung, was raised by his grandparents who were farmers because his parents jobs made this arrangement necessary. When he was a trainee at Big Hit in Seoul, he was selected as the 6th member of the BTS team, which is a group of seven. The company made him "the hidden member" as a marketing strategy that actually had a negative impact on him. He was not allowed to make public his role in the group, as they were doing VLOGS for about 2 years to build a fanbase for the group. Tae was very nervous to speak in interviews when he was finally revealed. He has told us that his heart would race and he had difficulty speaking up.
To make matters more difficult for him, his dialect and accent from where he grew up in the countryside was different than other members. In the early years, Yoongi, aka SUGA, who was also from the same area, Daegu, would often explain what Tae meant by things he said. Yoongi had been in Seoul much longer and was older. He took somewhat of a big brother role in helping Tae express himself by translating for him. In a LIVE segment just before enlistment of 4 members of BTS, Jimin teased Tae about what they called Tae Tae language, but that's when Tae explained that he had fixed that problem and Jungkook spoke up and said that Tae is now the best speaker. He worked hard to overcome his nervousness and has developed incredible self-control.
Taehyung was just a boy when he joined Big Hit, but he has always had a brilliant mind and insatiable curiosity. His quiet demeanor has replaced his chaotic boyhood side and he has shown his incredible intelligence through his military achievements. Not just anyone can qualify for special forces, or elite trainee awards, but he did. They look for intelligence, a cool under pressure personality, physical strength, psychological stability, and integrity, as the military requires background checks on men joining special forces.
If there is anything about Kim Taehyung that is not neurotypical, it is his well above average intelligence. He is known for his phenomenal memory and can learn choreography the fastest in BTS, and all the members have stated this as a fact. He was awarded as best actor for his first acting role in a K-Drama, and memorizes lines and poetry very quickly. The leader of BTS, Namjoon, aka RM, is known as highly intelligent and is their main English speaker, but he has said Tae is the second best at speaking English, and he is also fluent in Japanese. Namjoon, when asked which member he thought had a sexy brain, he chose Taehyung, and soon after, Yoongi spoke up and said he thinks Tae is a genius. I agree with them.

What a great reaction! I love the musical analysis of a favorite song. V loves jazz so during this solo period (they're on a hiatus as they rotate through the military) he has presented a number of jazz songs. The trio isn't mentioned here, I think because they are in the other version? It's for BTS to put out multiple versions. As for the Sonatina, I played for a long time and it's engraved in my brain from lessons long ago. BTS is a miracle to me, I had outgrown most of the music I'd listened to in my 70 years, had abandoned popular music because it didn't appeal, and suddenly found this group with incredible talent who has fought their way to the top. I'd suggest listening to the whole group together. My current favorite is Louder than Bombs.

I think it's common for Korean artists to use "hybrid" genre names to try to convey the style or feel of the songs, specially when it's hard to put them on one box. So maybe that's where "pop jazz ballad" comes from
