  • Hi welcome to today's vlog on St George's Day In Kanchanaburi Thailand. My friend Norman and i take a trip around the landmarks to pay homage to the soldiers that sadly died in the war to mark our respect on St George's Day in and around Kanchanaburi.
We start off at the Kanchanaburi war cemetery which is remarkably well kept and so nice to see, before going to the bridge over the River Kwai. Afterwards a couple of miles outside of town to Chungkai cemetery which again is extremely well looked after. Finishing off at hell fire pass two to look at the hardships and unbelievably difficult tasks the POW's were faced with.
I really hope you find St George's Day In Kanchanaburi Thailand interesting and can join me in the next one. Please Like, Subscribe and Share with anybody who you think may be interested in my content. Thank you.

G'day mate, it also brought a lump to my throat as you walked throughout those cemeteries, the bridge the war camp's and hells pass, so many lives lost from all those countries involved so sad, really great to see how well the cemeteries are looked after,
Thanks for the walk through and remembering the fallen,

Nice to see the Durham flag there, i'm a Durham lad and live up near Saiyok about 60km outside of Kanchanaburi. Whenever i'm in town i try to call in and pay my respects. International travel is second nature to us but can you imagine at the start of the war being posted to Singapore, lads who've probably never been away from there towns or villages before.

Was there 20 years ago with my friend who was a nurse in Leeds her one and only visit to Thailand she found out one woman also a nurse was buried there after about an hour searching she found the grave unfortunately the mini bus driver wouldn't wait we ended up staying overnight and making our own way back to bangkok, she sadly passed away a few years ago but her daughter spoke about it at her funeral saying how moving it was. At least before she died she got to see the grave mate. How inconsiderate the driver was, they’re not normally like that. Also to spend a bit more time here too must of being nice.

To be fair the driver had to take us to many places in the day the nurse was Canadian I think so she had to find the Canadian graves it took time to find and the driver had another dozen passengers to look after.

least 250,000 Southeast Asian civilians were subjected to forced labour to ensure the construction of the Death Railway and more than 90,000 civilians died building it, as did around 12,000 Allied soldiers. The workers on the Thai side of the railway were Tamils, Malays, and fewer Chinese civilians from Malaya.
the Ratio was 7.5 vs 1
i can't see any monuments in the same ratio
probably because of that asian solidarity thing
