Today we're going to talk about the best and worst foods for lower abdominal pain.
There are many different causes of lower abdominal cramping or pain. But, in my opinion, we can usually trace the problem back to the person's diet and malabsorption.
If a person has a problem with malabsorption, they may also experience bloating, diarrhea, or loose stool. The more inflammation or gut problems you have, the more sensitive you're going to be to certain things like gluten, lactose, fruit, grains, legumes, beans, nuts, and seeds.
A good thing to consume would be a stew with homemade bone broth. The collagen in the stew is great for inflammation in the gut. Adding vegetables to the stew is also fantastic because they will cook down to the point where they shouldn't bother your digestive system.
High-quality saturated animal fats are important to help support the gut. This means the meat you add to your stew should have skin on it and should be fatty.
Lactose-free whole-milk kefir or lactose-free goat milk kefir is also great to help support healthy digestion. To support the colon, you may want to consume probiotic foods. Ghee and fermented vegetables may also be beneficial.
The best vegetable for digestive issues is cabbage. This may be because it contains sulforaphane or certain phytonutrients. Even people who have digestive problems like gastritis or irritable bowel syndrome may find it easier to consume cabbage.

I've seen plenty of gastroenterologists...they never mentioned my diet. Your information is worth more than what I would get from a million of these modern day gastroenterologists. I am a health professional and thankfully I intuitively felt and knew enough to know that the advice these doctors gave me would only have made me sicker. I was able to cure a terrible condition with just diet changes and kombucha alone .... no prescriptions or over the counter crap. I wanted to feel my body ... I didn't want to numb it. I knew that knowing the symptoms helped guide me to fixing the root cause.... your information is priceless, it has propelled my healing process even further... very grateful for your content. I love when you cover digestion! It’s a topic I feel should be discussed more often. I can remember as an addition to healing my H-PYLORI, it was also Simethicone (Gas X) is megadosing for one week that also saved me. It eliminated my extreme brain fog that the methane gases were causing and helped to remove excess gas from my GI tract so that perastalsis kicked in again.
Taking simethicone was crucial in my healing journey.
I also soaked my beans over night to reduce the lectins which also helped with digestion. They were less fibrous and easy on my stomach making it better for digestion but even more so, consumption for the good bacteria. Cabbage juice (once the bacterial count was low) was also a life saver for me!
Thank you for sharing this info, Dr. Berg! All disease begins and ENDS in the gut.

I have been following you for years. I have ACUTE INTERMITTENT PORPHYRIA and RSD, among other things. For years I have used glucose to treat attacks of the AIP, but thanks to a change of meds for the RSD by a very uneducated but politically motivated replacement primary care doctor I had to have an emergency epidural to relax muscles controlling my diaphragm leaving me with blood o2 of 83. From there I became bed ridden for near a year after an injection in my right hip put me in hospital and have had to learn to walk again. It also pushed a low A1C to 6.7. I started to take KETO seriously and my A1C was 5.1 when I last tested and the Insulin Resistance symptoms are gone, but I am having more frequent AIP attacks as my weight goes down. I was 310lbs when I started the diet change. I am now around 275lbs. The increase in AIP issues seems related to the weight loss.
The RSD is a result of my Perennial nerve in my left leg below the knee being severed and the Sciatic nerve being damaged in the same accident. Accident happened 1991-2 and I will be 71 in April. I am looking for something other than glucose for the AIP. I do know about Hemetin and have a home version that seems to be as effective (rare to raw red juicy meat)
    What suggestions do you have?
I am walking with a cane, but I can ride my Harley on a good day now (after being returned to my original RSD medication.

Dr.Berg, I have been following your posts regularly and have learned a lot from you. I especially benefit from the written description. I have been suffering from abdominal cramps for a long time and have recently found what causes it and here would like to share my experience. I thought I could not tolerate fat as it definitely caused me to regurgitate oil and followed by cramps. Turns out it only happened if I eat fat along with carb (be it veggie, nuts ...). If I eat only fat I am OK, no regurgitation, no cramps, no discomfort. Not sure if the carb would "shut off" the bile to digest fat or what, but that's how I avoid cramps.

One upload I would love to see, is what the heck this unnamed injection so many of us were forced to have here in Australia, is doing to people's nervous systems. Get my gyst? We are over 2 years in to my mum having had it and it attacked her nervous system. We have been to multiple GP appointments (5 and another with a different GP), neurologist, endocrinologist (my mums first GP refused to agree it was anything to do with the injection and referred us to an endocrinologist (!) (The endocrinologist was confused as to why we had been referred to him and told us mum needed to see a neurologist, off to a different GP who referred us to a neurologist - who didn't know what was wrong with mum but told her "rubbish" when mum said she started getting unwell within 24 hrs of having "the injection", spent 8 months at a naturopath who also couldn't help her, she's had CT scans. We just don't know what to do but one thing is for sure, we know what caused it. Her head shakes, has fatigue most days of the week (she might have a few hours where she feels ok), she feels weak in the legs on some days, has stomach upsets on some days, other days she has dizzy spells and nausea. No one has an answer for her. Please Dr Berg, I hope you read this and can post some information about how we get this injection out of her system.

If you suspect gas is causing you pain try using physics to let off some pressure. First lie on your back for 1-2 minutes. Then roll to your right side for 1-2 minutes, then go to your back again, then to your left side for 1-2 minutes. This will almost always help trapped gas move out of there. While you are getting to the root of whatever is causing your gas it helps to have some tools like this handy. Obviously this is not ideal for work or social gatherings. But will be fine for when you are at home.

We can’t just function without them! Beef bones are my fav and whole chicken broth with a lot of veg are on my menù every week!
As soon somebody gets flu, that soup is started to be boiled!
It needs a good three hours to boil slowly .. it need’s to be clear in the end and not cloudy..
can be served clear or with ramen nudle.. Sometimes I even add boiled egg and some greens ( similar to Chinese style)
This is not just a food ! It is a nourishing medicine and elixir !

He’s made a few videos on how a messed up tooth can an impact on other parts of the body. By doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting (up to 23 hrs a day), I managed to completely recover from any situations related to this. No more pain in my knees, eyes, ect. I also use his electrolytes which helps stops carbs cravings.

Despite eating fiber, I've had lots of gut irritation problems. Sauerkraut works like magic. Just a few spoonfuls with my usual meals once in a day, since few months ago, and I could almost say I have a healthy gut now. My diet didn't really have any fermented foods. Simple addition and not that expensive, strongly recommend to try that out. I hated the taste for the first 10 times, I still don't love it but I've gotten used to it and it simply feels such a superfood that it has come to stay in my diet.

Had been suffering bouts lower abdominal pain for a while. Convinced it was a dietary problem, I began to eliminate foodstuffs which I suspected might be the culprit…Narrowed it down to chicory root fibre, which was an ingredient in a brand of protein bar I was consuming on a regular basis. Also somewhat to a lesser extent the artificial sweetener sucralose sometimes gives me problems. All is fine now and I try in as much as I can help it to steer clear of all artificial sweeteners…

1-2 weeks my stomach discomfort was resolved. But that’s just the beginning. You have to stick to your plan.
I was doing OMAD for a month.
Broccoli, onions, sauerkraut and chicken for dinner.
My stomach wasn’t producing HCL to break down food and kill pathogens. It’s important to leave out the HCL for a few weeks in case you have an ulcer. After my stomach was better I introduced HCL and digestive enzymes. I still take between 6 and 8 depending on the meal size.
Only relaxing music while you eat. Focus on every bite and chew thoroughly.
No social media, pc, or tv after dinner.
Take a walk, read a self help book.
Go to bed early and do deep diaphragmatic breathing. Program your mind and body with positive healing thoughts.

He's just saying don't overdo the fat by adding additional fats, rather take advantage of the natural fats on the meats you will be making a broth out of.
As he mentioned, too much fat might not help digestive problems and so he's just advising against adding additional fats even if they are good fats like coconut oil.

Dr told me, after no tests only a written survey, that it was all in her head and she just was using it as an excuse to get out of school. He said she needed to go to a psychiatrist and get on drug regimen. He would not listen to me. I was livid. After research, I tried a gluten free diet…ta da. She’s doing great now.

I have had cramping, bloating gas pain in upper gi too. I didn't want invasive tests. I have been doing cabbage juice. Also eating cooked onions and garlic. Apples, cottage cheese with raw leeks for the prebiotics. I have also added Okra vegetable either boiled or roasted. I found some unpasteurised parmases French cheese so I adc that with apple and raw onions. Of course not all together. I have recently come across MCAS and Histamine Intolerance as I have has chronic pain and fatigue for 9 years since glandular fever. My stools are better too. I also brought some coconut live bacteria yoghurt low in sugar. I guess its all trail and error. I tried kimchi and sauerkraut but my was well tolerated.

If I were you, I’d fast and break my fast with a cup of water that contains a table spoon of apple cider vinegar. I’d wait 20-30min and then eat breakfast such as scrambled eggs. I would eat meat, fish and eggs with vegetables. Also, homemade broth or soup. Make sure that you use bones and all. The bones have collagen and enzymes that help heal your stomach. I can tolerate a little bit of potatoes and yams. Watch out though because they can make you gassy. Avoid anything fried or super greasy. You can cook with grass fed butter though. I would avoid most carbs and sugars. I would avoid super sweet fruits too like mangoes. Sugar makes Candida worse. I had
Cándida in 2021 due to antibiotics. My stomach hurt and my tongue was white even after brushing it multiple times. It was gross. I hope this helps!
