Thank you for sharing this Richard. And I agree. Your J-185 is really seductive and special. It has the vintage sound and vibe but really nice to hear how you appreciate and respect previous owners together with the guitar's own history. Maple so underrated (except by jazzers!). Some are great, some not so, but this one sounds so beautifully seasoned and played in, it's crazy. Doesn't have the boom of a 200 which you don't always want as a strummer.
what a gorgeous chord progression the first one....with the maj 7s or whatever they are ...ike everly was a great guitar player too quite the charachter ...very nice guitar man
J-185 was introduced in 1951, not 1953. And no, Ike Everly didn't design it for his sons, The Everly Brothers were 12 and 14 years old at the time of its introduction. Ike apparently tweaked the design, mostly cosmetically for his sons signature J-180 model.
wow......that's just one of the best sounding guitars i've ever heard anywhere....
I think we all love his 1953 Gibson J-185..
im crazy happy I own one. it was my great great grandpas. sounds like nothing else out there. gotta love that warm but bright maple tone.
You’re 185 comes across beautifully in the way your recording it for this video, as well as you’re playing. Nice acoustic chops. Carry on.
ya i should have mentioned that myself you are so right

Wow Awesome Guitar!👍👌👌
It's got an angle on the jangle. So much so, I had to grab a guitar, play that last Cmaj7 he did, to see if his was tuned down a bit.
I don't blame you...I would love it too!
Sublime
Wow
could be the best sounding acoustic ever... and best looking too...

Would you compare to the J-200?
No bro j200 sucks for real try playing one above 5 freet is going to buzz so bad 🤦♂️
Sounds better than a Taylor I'll tell you that.
Ask yourself ONE Question. In a Blind Test would he pick out his Guitar???🤔🤔🤔
Who is Richard Hawley, and what is a J-185? Sounds good, but never heard of them ...
