The irony is the same government handed over many mining leases on crown land that had old timer workings which are regarded as places of historical significance(nuggety gully Tarnagulla & Jones creek). These grounds are not even 5 minutes away from Nev’s site. How can you not be allowed to mine your own land when they’ve handed out permits on crown workings in the past?????

Come on Aussie bureaucrats stop putting obstacles in the way of 2 solid decent working men.
Mick and Nev are great guys and you need to be helping them achieve their dreams not making it impossible!
Cut out the red tape asap!
Discovery Channel you also need to be applying pressure to the authorities to help get the permits through.

Clearly this sort of delay is indicative of the poor light the Victorian mining scene is cast in due to bureaucracy. In one of the most prospective mining States in the world you have an obstructive mines department hell bent on destroying the very industry that gives it purpose. Good luck boys you deserve to succeed .

Maybe before they bought this historic land, was the question of why is such a valuable piece of land being sold?Did the previous owners have these same problems?

The Victorian government had a meeting at the site i worked at about 18 months ago. The treasurer came on site with reporters, and other companies in the mining/quarrying industry and spoke on how they were going to push permits through quickly to keep natural resources progressing. Only difference is brown paper bags i think.

Yup easier in Victoria making shady deals with China than getting prospecting permits, and where is the historical value in pocked marked land.

Mine it anyway, the fine will be cheaper than the other costs.

Yeah but they would probably confiscate their gold. It's bs what they are going through.

Know how those things go. Spent 3 years hassling with a local management of the feds just to get a right of way into our claim. I finally told them that they could let us have the right of way or I would be contacting my congressional representative.
Funny how that works... should have done that years before

The thing we have learned about gold mining is it is about how much money the government can get out of your pocket/wallet that’s it. There will be some kind of additional fee they will have to pay. I bet if they looked at it close enough the “assessor” they have to hire is somehow tied to the guy making the decisions and he will get a kick back out of it. That has been our experience

A bureaucracy is an organization that is complex with multilayered systems and processes all with their hands out waiting for a payoff.

Fingers crossed for you gentlemen to get back at it next week and the big excavation real soon. Government everywhere is so slow and as is often the case they do not communicate very clearly. Best of luck.

How can they say you can't dig your own property ? I Wonder if that's why the previous owner sold it to them

Shame what those office rats doing to hard working guys in Victoria, they owe land and not allowed to even walk there. Shame. But Victoria allowed 9 tones of gold to be taken back to England in 19th century, that was ok,those old timers did not paid for land as Mick n Neville
    Double standards everywhere

Due to age of the mines they're listed as sites of historical interest . Nobody should be allowed to dig any where near them .

A field full of holes is a significant historical site? You Aussies are weird.
