Absolument fabuleux ! J'ai eu la chance d'assister à ce concert, et le revivre grâce à cette vidéo est une grâce du Ciel. Merci à ce grand chef, à cet orchestre et à ce chœur de nous faire vivre de tels moments d'exception qui élèvent l'âme.
C'est une piece formidable de Mendelssohn et une performance parfaite par cette orchestre sous la direction de Gatti. Gatti a ete chef d'orchestre a Amsterdam, j'ai assisté a deux concerts avec lui de Mahler, inoubliable. Vous avez eu la change d'assister au concert, ca doit vous donner une bonne memoire d'ecouter ce concert sur YT. Pour moi j'ai beaucoup aimé d'ecouter sur YT. Je vous souhaite tout le bien, restez en bonne santé, amitiés des Pays Bas.

Top drawer Choir and Orchestra. World class conductor. I cant get enough of this.
This extraordinary Mendelssohn oratory is based on Bach’s Messiah oratory. It is still a masterpiece that involves us sentimentally by its strength and touches us at the bottom of our soul. The soloists and the choir are superb. The orchestra direction is fantastic. I am grateful for the moments provided by this magnificent interpretation, one of the best I have heard until now.Bravissimo.

Absolutely electrifying! What perfection. My chorus was slated to perform this in Fall 2020, but alas...the cursed Covid19. I dare say we would have matched this performance's high bar. Maestro Gatti is a pleasure to watch. Very lucky choristers are so expertly guided by his depth of feeling. What a satisfying 2 hours well spent soaking in this glorious Oratorio. Thank you all!

I keep returning again and again to this magnificent performance, the finest I’ve ever heard or ever likely to hear. I’m not the greatest fan of 19th c Oratorio but “Elijah” is for me in a league of its own, containing some of the most profound and beautiful music ever written

This is arguebly the best Elijah in German I have ever seen. Could almost match that of Koln in the Koeln Cathedral. This here is absolutely spot on.

A glorious performance of the master's work. Maestro Gatti, clearly a son of Jubal, leads us in the consideration, explanation and understanding of Elijah's life upon Earth. And even more- Maestro Gatti, the solists, chorus and musicians direct us in the worship and adoration of Him who has created all things.

I’m sometimes disappointed with Daniele Gatti’s conducting, however this time he is absolutely wonderful. I’ve not heard any performance to surpass his interpretation here. Soloists are all excellent, Michael Nagy being particularly outstanding. Must also mention the orchestra and chorus of course, again of the highest quality.

Google "kuk verlagsanstalt elias libreto", should be the first hit. Has German and English text right next to each other. Otherwise google for "IMSLP mendelssohn elias" and look through the vocal scores, there are versions with English text.

Magnífica version de este Oratorio, que juntamente con el Requiem de Brahms, es la cima del canto coral con orquesta....Peró la version de hace más de 40 años, de Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, marcó un hito en la história del disco, fue una versión de una referéncia inenarrable, por la calidad de orquesta i coros...
In my opinion, the Overture needs more agitated tension leading to a punctuated climax. The first chorus demands greater emphasis and expression, greater distress and articulated angst which the strings anticipated in the overture. Too many choristers are looking at their scores. One can't choir a fanfare of horror when no one in the group is feeling the emotions of the moment, distracted by their sight reading. They should know the parts by heart and 'feel' the conductor's guiding emotions (which alas, too, is rather subdued). Soloists are quite good! Note the punctuated emphatic cry from the tenor at 34:15. He positively nails it! Otherwise, a nice, if a tad bit tame and sometimes bland rendition.
Could not disagree more. Of course we all have our own opinions which I respect. For me this is overall the finest I’ve yet encountered and I’ve never heard a better performance of any work from Gatti than what he gives here. The orchestra is outstanding as is Michael Nagy.
