Just !!! I know just enough to know that this is a major achievement. Online you can find some bad-to-mediocre examples attempting this solo (and with no pedagogical value) - this casts a long shadow. Having worked out most if the rhythm lesson I might just sit and look at this in awe for a while.
I've literally spent a lifetime idolizing that song. Ronson was also a master arranger and the simple piano part was genius also. A lot of people sleep on the fact that he was a classically trained pianist and it really shines through. Thanks to my first grade art teacher who first blew my mind playing this in class in late 1972. It blew my 6 year old mind.
I like where you say during the lesson that "it's the delay pedal that's doing all the work in that section," but I can't get enough of watching how you are actually playing that section in the play-through. Really spectacular. The echo sounds great, but it's the conviction and skill that make it happen.
That was mindblowingly excellent. You're an amazing musician. I've had the Belle Epoch Deluxe a couple years now, it's the Superman of delay pedals and you used it perfectly.
@The Wolf of Curves yeah, you're right. The thing is, if I had to choose one over the other, I'd choose feeling. Playing fast is super nice, but specially if you have feeling. But to play fast without feeling its meaningless to me. As B B King said, "they can play 15 notes per second, but I play 3 notes and make you cry"
When I first heard that track back in the seventies I was already wowed out by Bowie's outrageousness and upon hearing that solo I asked myself how can a guitar produce that sound? At that time I was learning guitar on a classical passed on to me by a relative and I was determined to get an electric guitar, by the time I had a guitar which was a Les Paul copy by Olympic.
Everything about this is great. You’ve convinced me that to get that authenticate Ronno tone only a Les Paul will do. I play this live often but on my fairly beefy sounding telecaster. It’s lacking the creamy sustain you’re getting.
Just watched the ‘73 show, received inspiration kick and you’ve pushed me over the edge. So I’m thinking- Ronno on a Jet Phaser? Electric Kazoo duet? He’s smiling on us. Thanks for all you do!
God dammit how many gorgeous guitars do you own?! Random question but what gauge of strings are you using in that video or in general? Do you often switch it up?
Adrian, thank you very much. Great job. I'm just getting into Bowie and this will be fun to play. I always heard of him but now I'm just getting exposed to Mick. Thanks for all the videos.
I used to be crazy about Telecasters until I saw Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture. After that, it was Les Pauls all the way (Well, a mid-80s Japanese made Tokai 'Love Rock')!
You have done it again!! Mick Ronson another one of my fav guitarists, and your sound is really like his wonderful tone . Is your Les Paul a new guitar for you?
Fantastic lesson as always! You’re easily the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. Wow. But I think you deserve an easier lesson next week. You’re working too hard! How about New York by the Sex Pistols? Another Les Paul classic with a killer solo.
Adrian I've. been trying to play Mick Ronsons version of slaughter on 10th avenue any any chance of a lesson its a good one for your les paul thanks for all your great Iessons
Learnt Slaughter on 10th, took me about week staying in my bedroom playing along to it, so many different parts! It's a tough one but well worth the effect!
Wonderful, I worship Bowie, love Mick Ronson and I adore Moonage Daydream. What really makes me happy is seeing someone young still keeping this alive
The greatest guitar solo ever, not fast, not flashy, just perfection. Thank you Adrian.
Well done, Adrian...Mick is smiling down on you for your efforts...

Bloody Hell Adrian!
Most appropriate comment on this lesson
Lol!!Agreed Alan!
Fantastic! Has to be one of most dramatic solos of all time. Played with great feeling. Well done Adrian.👍

"I've got blisters on me fingers!" Oh man, those bends!
My all time favorite lead. Gotta add the two ‘clicks’ about halfway through. Thank you!
this is great, this is one hell of a solo, in fact my favorite
That was mindblowingly excellent. You're an amazing musician. I've had the Belle Epoch Deluxe a couple years now, it's the Superman of delay pedals and you used it perfectly.
Nice work indeed. Ronson is my hero and you did a grand job of combining the best bits of the solos.
Omfg. Absolutely epic performance - and what a tone!
That's my Saturday morning sorted then, finding my vibe.
Much appreciated
Jock
A track, a solo that just never ages. Great interpretation
What a fabulous musician mick ronson was, very good interpretation
Wow....simply wow
Mick Ronson My Favorite Guitarist of All Time. Thanks for this. It sounds Amazing.
You. Are. Amazing. Thanks for the clarity, care and of course the fucken great taste that went into making this second part.
That’s a SOLO, hyper masculine....shredders, it’s not about how many notes you are able to play in half a second, it’s about feel and...balls. ;-)

Yes, exactly. Less is more!

Besides the awesome performance and instruction, the backing track is top notch. A great gift to us all, and it has not gone unnoticed! Thank you!
Speechless 😶 what a lesson
Dude! I haven't been at youTube for a while so just catching up with your offerings. Blimey you're a treasure... Thank you
Can't add much to what has already been said - you play superbly. and I think you pretty much nailed it. Pulling out my guitar now and gonna learn it.
That is absolutely bloody amazing. You are a genius.
Man your solo in the beginning was gorgeous ! - absolutely riveting 😭❤️ 🔥
Awesome Adrian!! Great tone and playing. Wonderful lesson.
omg. Beautiful! I won't be mastering that one any time soon, but like driving by Mt. Fuji I look in awe and think that I can climb it someday.
Brilliant episode Adrian. What a musician he was. Heard that Mick used to tune a little flat and bend up to the pitch of the band.
Breathtaking!
actually covered this on my own channel last week. love the original, best guitar tone ever! rad video, adrian!
Thank you for this lesson and all your lessons from Turkey.
Wonderfully played! Sounds as good as the record. Love the sustain on the Les Paul. Bravo.

Plenty of distortion, reverb and a wah pedal set tilted back.
That's how mick did it.
A humbucker most importantly, I've seen good renditions of it on single coil guitars but not remotely like Ronson's without a humbucker.
This is an epic bendathon..well done Adrian great skills !
killer tone.....fantastic job
Fabulous thanks Adrian.
Just watched the ‘73 show, received inspiration kick and you’ve pushed me over the edge.
So I’m thinking- Ronno on a Jet Phaser?
Electric Kazoo duet?
He’s smiling on us.

Hi Adrian great playing what model and year is your gibson les paul ?
Epic
Very very good lesson ! Can you tell me please about your Reverb ? Because i hear a great reverb from the guitar but not from your pedals !
Yes, I sometimes add a bit of reverb in the computer when I mix the audio - probably a bit of UAD plate.
why u are so good
Fantastic lesson as always! You’re easily the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. Wow. But I think you deserve an easier lesson next week. You’re working too hard! How about New York by the Sex Pistols? Another Les Paul classic with a killer solo.
