Wish I had found this last week. We had a fledgling that passed away. We left it alone .
We can only do the best we can do. Mother nature will have her way. Thanks for attending to wildlife. Cheers!
Faith in humanity= restored
You need to watch a video on how to feed them and he will become your friend
That's awesome!
I just rescued a stranded one! So sad, it was about to get dark and I didn't have the heart to let nature take course.
I'm trying to save a blue jay baby right now. I'm trying to feed him.
Awesome video
Errol Noble Sr Watch this video instead. It has better information for helping your baby Bluejay. Good luck! ua-cam.com/video/FJ7TdRugx4o/v-deo.html
It was amazing to help the baby blue jay in my yard. Baby blue has spread it's wings
I love to see human beings interact with nature or more specifically wildlife. Inspirational
Thank You! I just found one with out a tail, this really helped!
great video! I am a bird saver myself.
Thank you so much for this posting. This is my second year working with Wildlife in my state and I finally have the priveledge of raising a baby Blue Jay. It is a little fledgling. SO CUTE. It is going to be hard releasing this little one becuase I am already so attached to it. I loved seeing how you handled him and I especially loved seeing the way you feed it a worm (mill worm)? That drop of water did the trick of stimulating his natural reflex to swallow! Thank you for the post
I raised my blue jay and he always wanted to be with me I got him when he was little
How often did you feed him, please.
these people should read about how to rescue and release a Blue Jay because often they stray, but this one is totally healthy, and able to return to his parents which often are within site of the babies who are still under their care. I have rescued two- the first time I heard the parents, like your Utube actually has them calling out in the background!, and after he was out of threat of our cats, so next for several days, locked up, and his young age, younger than this one, we only waited a day or 2 before we put him back out, and sure enough: they lead him/her back to safety near the nest as often Jays fledge a bit early! Let him go back near where you hear the calling of or sightings of the parents! They will feed them if they are visible and raise them right! Thanks, never keep one.

For God's sake, how big of a hurry were you in when you attempted to communicate whatever it is that you were trying to communicate here?
I have been trying to find info on how to care for fledgeling Jay's for about 40 minutes and most of what I find is recommendations to leave them near where you found them. I live in a neighborhood that is absolutely crawling with cats. So, apparently I should let this poor thing die because it's possible I may not properly care for it? I just want to give it a chance. I've taken in four or five birds, and the only one that died was the one I took to a rescue organization.
By the way, I was talking about fledglings, not newborns. So good for you for saving them if they needed it.
We just found one that fell outside my friend's house. I don't really know how to take care of it, but the parents are up in the tree above calling. It's such a pretty bird.
YAL ARE AWESOME
Da Boss Back at ya! 😁👍
Hey so I found a baby 2 week old blues jay on the bed of my truck last night it has a messed up leg. What can I feed it?!?!?
I have a nestling that feel out of a nest and was paralyzed. The parents disowned her after she fell. I observed it for a while and didn’t move in a full day. The blue jay is beautiful and I’ve been feeding her and helping her hopefully fly. But i know you shouldn’t be forcing food down its throat. Chip (the bluejay) is still a nestling so I’ve been feeding him through a syringe. He has a purée of wet cat food, almonds, legumes, blueberries, mushed mealworms and mint leaves. Is their something I’m missing? I’m just wondering
I just found one with a hurt leg. He's doing better now but I'm not sure if he's ever gonna walk right.
yes, I have two cats, I kept them inside when I knew there was a fledgling out in my yard. I've also witnessed Blue Jay's fiercely protecting their fledglings from Crows and even cats. Trust me, in the the hour after a fledgling ends up on the ground, there is a huge ruckus while everyone gets interested, but once the fledgling makes it to a bush so they can climb back into a tree, everything calms down. We humans usually find them in that short time frame because such a ruckus is going on, and we think it's an urgent situation. But if the parents are there, and they Will let you know they are! Let them do their job! Let's say you are teaching your kid to ride a bike, and they fall, and your neighbor comes out and grabs them, drags them inside, and you don't get to see them again, your kid ends up in a cage, force-fed huge chunks of meat which are forced down with a tube, or a wash of water to force them down.
I'm just trying to show you a little common sense from experience with fledglings. Do they all make it? No, can you interfere if the bird is abandon or injured? Yes, but when you see a baby bird, stop and observe before you rush to fix it. Most of the time you'll find it didn't need fixing G to begin with.
oh my god will you shut the fuck up
+Alexandra TheFurry lol
Joshua Rafanan XD
Sometimes they fall out or get kicked out way too soon and into a yard with dogs, cats, lawnmowers etc. With no bush to climb up and no ability to climb it... right before a downpour
You should keep your cats inside all year. They kill all kinds of animals.
hi i just wanted to know what do u feed this baby blue jay
I just found a fledgling blue jay. It had been knocked to the ground during a bad storm. When they are this big, they no longer stay in a nest. It is too dangerous. Predators raid the nests. So, the mother helps them find a safe place for the night - all in separate areas. She travels back and forth and keeps an eye and teaches them. If you find one, you should put it right back in the tree it fell from, off the ground, but near where the mom can find it. DO NOT BRING IT IN TO CARE FOR IT.
No one is answering the question about what to feed this baby bird. Take about 1/4 c of Purina dry cat food, let soak in about 1/2 c of water for an hour or so, pulverize into a mix the consistency of applesauce, and feed from a dropper. The bird will open its mouth nice and wide for the food and you can put the dropper end pretty far in. This stuff dries like glue, so try not to get any on the bird (better to miss his mouth completely) but use a water soaked Q-tip to immediately get it off while it's still wet. Alternatively, you can just soak the cat food and feed him the soft pieces (no bigger than a pea). The key is not to feed them much (they'll let you know when they're done) but feed them every 20 min or so from sunrise to sunset. They will sleep all night. I have begun to feed my guy teeny tiny pieces of fruit, there's no chewing, it just goes right down the gullet, which is why they have to be really tiny. I see the guy in this video gave his bird water. Adult birds don't bring water to the nest, the water comes in the moist food they feed their young. You can drown a bird with too much water. And definitely NO MILK. These are not mammals.
1111pseudo you can use baby bird formula. crushed peanuts
@@annonymousbird4512 Hey um I know it's been along time but I found a blue jay and it seemed like the older birds left him and we got him and we put a little container of water like very little but we can't do that syrenge thing cause he flies around alot do you have any advice
@@oh-4688 If the bird flies around a lot, I hope you released him back
@@PV-po6zt I released it the same day I found it dead the next day
@@oh-4688 Ah, that's nature I guess. Really unfortunate :(
I once rescued this blue jay. He was a baby, his nest was attacked by crows, I saw his sibling get carried away by those crows. He fell out of the nest, and I had to rehabilitate him. When he got old enough, I had to let him go. So I opened his cage, and he flew off.
For the last two years, he flies into my screened in porch when I have a smoke, and always pays a visit.
I found one too And I don’t really know how to save it
Is this a black throated magpie or an actual blue hay ?
I've got a baby the cat got and I just happened to catch the cat. I'm smitten with the little thing. What are you/did you feed it? I'm feeding my cat food mixed with yogurt and baby food and canilope every once in awhile. I am also giving it a piece of dog calcuim tablets every day. Mine is way younger then that though. He's sitts on my finger while I clean his cage and follows me around the yard if I put him down...
Hello, we found a couple of baby bluejays. One went into the neighboring yard, but we caught one. Do you have any tips?
i have one and its injured with its legs there broken if you u know any information about a special bird vet can you message me back please he's really hurting and we don't know what to do
I had a baby blue literally RUN (well hop as fast as possible) up to me in my front yard just after dark, three nights ago. There are many cats in this area, so who knows how long he'd been hiding out before spotting me. The thing is, I've been listening for any birds in neighboring trees and don't hear any. I know he's ready to try and fly and I'd love to get him back to his parents, but they're no where in sight. Can't see any nests either, so no idea where he came from. I'm afraid to let him just go loose outside due to the area cats. If parents aren't around to help him he'll be screwed. Not sure what to do at this point.
wow do u have more vids on this poo lil blu jay did u find it jumping around somewhere not flying or wat? wat made u notice the bird. n do u have vids of it fully recoverd?
Where was this bird when you found it?
thx for showing me... i found a a really hurt baby blue jay in my back yard that fell. or got atacked. hes really in bad shape... thx for showing me
Where is your blue jay,how many years you keep it with you.
i just found one , abandoned. im going to try to get him/her to eat again
Blue jay is good
Did you feed him eat nuts, corn, grains and seeds?
that Blue Jay looks like he's got some missing feathers specifically on the shoulder.
Did the blue jay you took care of already fly?
I currently nursing one that isn't as big as that one, but its starting to learn
If yours didn't, how long did it take for it to fly?
The parents are likely nearby. And those missing feathers are likely from a cat attack (tell-tale sign). He was t pushed out of the nest... that’s really not what they do, but they will fledge prematurely if they are disturbed, such as a predator or human bothering the nest.
In this case a rehabber should have been contacted so the bird can get a thorough examination, be fed properly, and kept until those flight feathers grow in.
How'd he do? Did he ever learn to feed himself on his own. We're trying to get one to eat on his own but he's in love with humans now and won't leave although he can fly quite well. Loves dog food too but giving worms, bugs, fruit, nuts and acorns is what he really needs the most.
today i found a young blue jay.not quite old enough to fledge but still very close to it.
what does fledgling mean because i just got a baby blue jay
What did u feed him ? What kind of worms ?
i did too. Washington state. It seems scared and same thing, I use my fingers to tap/gentle force it's mouth with a chopped worm ready, they have to have the food pushed a little like mom does. it doesn't know it has to eat, you know it has to.
Can you tell us what ended up happening with this bird? Did it heal and fly away? Did you turn it over to someone?
Animal Activist don't like it when people are trying to help wild life but they enjoy watching them not have a chance in the wild and and would let them die. What am I missing here?? Good job I hope it lived.
how do u know when he's old enough to care for himself?
I found a fledgling jay yesterday. He has been behind some irises next to the house. I believe I saw Momma going to him, so I'll just keep an eye on him. He seems to have feathers except not so much in his tail.
dee raisola If the parents are there, best to just let it be. It’s a fledgling. It will be fine as long as there are no predators around
What did you feed him cause we have five
Just got lil lil blue jays away from my pups they was pawing at em
You guys are great! I just found a baby blue jay in the middle of the road and pick him up. Tomorrow morning I am going to set him up and start feeding him. Thanks for the video.
I had one for a week I feed it bird seed and he ate it I was 10 at the time :3
Happy 15th
I found 3 very young baby blue jays and idk what to do ik the mom wont want them
hmmm...newspaper shred's is kind of a wierd bedding material....I usually use just an old cloth or something
We just chirp to our baby blue jay and it opens its mouth and yells so we put the food in when it does that
15 yrs later, I need an update 😅
You may have to go to a doctor for that. Sorry, only kidding. That bird was successfully released back into the wilderness. I would have no idea what happened to it after that. Cheers!
What were you feeding her???
Same
It's so nice to see a man Daddying up the wildlife! Usually it's the ladies who do this. Good job, dude!
@richintalent serious dude where are you at? not to in tune with everything outside the walls?
they spend a week or so at a young age on the ground devoloping strength, i gound two before, and wildlife group told me to just leave them, but i informed them tgere are alot of feral cats around, they had me suspend the birds in a basket with shredded paper in it from the tree, one of them was gone the next day, tge other died. I hope the other one made it.
found one today in the cats mouth he seems unharmed but canot fly long he has no tail feathers the cat got him 3 times before i could get it away from her
you shouldn't baby him, he will never survive in the wild, we hand one just like that expect both his wings where short, we feed him at took care of him, he would hop around, we feed him peanuts, pieces of bread, he loved potatoes. he found a home under the tiny hole under my shed that I had no access to, even the neighbourhood cats couldn't get at him, then winter hit and figured him for dead, he came back the following year, he could fly but he was a bit of a clutz...now after 4 years of having him he has a beautiful wingspan, little blue fohawk that pops up when we call him to eat. He even has his own family now.
I LOVE this story, so beautiful. Thank you for taking such good care, whilst letting a bird be a bird and fly free. We humans always want to put our stamp on everything from an ego perspective! Animals are our equals and we all take care of EACHOTHER, whilst letting each other BE! It seems he thanks you for this 'heartfelt' perspective.
Cats are domesticated and greatly disturb most ecosystems, so this person is actually letting the circle of life continue.
Well he was very "Tame" and could not fend for himself outside and my mom who would take care of him when i was not was out on vacation.
i found one of these little boogers today. crows had raided a nest and were trying to eat the lil guy. now i've got to help him stay alive. i have chickens, fish, a turtle and a dog, but this is gonna be a challenge i think.
Got a deserted baby this morning found a dead baby, I have always given them HIGH protein dogfood softened up with water. And LOTS or worms and grubs.
I raised a blue jay from a small chick when I was a teen, I named it kevlar because it fell out of a tall tree during a storm and came out just fine, it was a lot younger than this one, I fed it with a eyedropper. After he was a full grown beautiful male kevlar would come back and sit on a low branch and let me feed him bread from time to time.
What did you feed it ? I have a baby blue jay myself, had two but one died out of nowhere, now im paranoid with the one left, I wanna know what to give him, do you know?
Found one today with a messed up leg. Turning him into the hspca tomorrow going to try and get him to eat a worm or little wet dog food tonight
good worms are fine... i got one before the cat did and another fell shortly after, i got them in a big fishtank full of ripped up and fluffed cotten balls XD i call them Mordecai and Peck, i feed/water them with a one of my empty eye-droppers and make them use there wings daily for about 30 minutes
Do NOT feed a baby bird any water! I was told this by an official Texas state wild bird rescue.
They can get water from the bugs they eat.
Thank you for saving this bird, though! Thank you thank you!
@n166ahygu fledging is basically a baby, just refers to it 'fledging' from its nest..
How do all of u guys get a hold of blue jays babies?
Botellita De Jerez probably trapped them
Botellita De Jerez you're not suppost to
Wait until HUNGRY!
Don’t FORCE FEED !!!!
just caught one today. May 29, 2010
Just got one now. June 15th, 2020
@@marcosfarid7427 I just found one, i dont know what i should feed it? Am i able to feed is wild bird feed mix?
@@roset3040 Baby birds shouldn't eat seed straight up. As nestlings and fledgelings, they eat their mom's vomit - gross as it sounds - so you can use wet cat foid or mashed bugs and berries to feed them. Make sure they have lots of water in the mix, and feed them with a spoon or eyedropper. As they get older, introduce them to larger, solid foods and see if they eat them alone, without help.
Found one today - on my birthday - July 10th, 2020. Taking care of her, as her parents are passed. Named her Kip.
Baby jays like this one with the blue feathers on its wings and most of its pin feathers replaced with adult feathers are fledglings and are learning to fly. If the parents are nearby and there aren't any neighborhood cats, crows, mean dogs or other predators then leave the jays alone. Give the parents at least 1-2 hours to show, watch from a distance, preferably through a window. If there are nearby predators and/or the parents are never seen then you can make the attempt to take care of them, but do MASSIVE amounts of research! There is a large range of needs for birds of different species at different ages, from food to shelter. Contrary to popular belief they don't survive off of bread or worms, most baby or young birds have a much more complicated diet than that and typically need large amounts of certain proteins and vitamins.
+Highlander I like your answer but will ad here the parents are waiting now for the one who flew into our glass door, went into shock during a cold winter storm, so have read up and don't feed them for 24 hours, they need a quiet, clean lined with soft cloth box and warmth, not a heating pad either just unless you place a wrapped one, beneath the BOX on one end so it does not burn them. I did release once successfully and the parents came right down, after 2 days....kept my cats inside for a week! You can't decide if they are injured, parents will, or call wildlife control helpers!
I taking care of a baby blue jay right now
me too, i'm feeding him baby food for humans. He loves it.

I saved 2 baby blue jays and I need help
What did you feed him?
He fed it peices of worms
Where's mommy blue jay?
I agree completely with the idea of turning the bird over to a sanctuary (so it can be raised around other birds and become aware of predators) and applaud your success rate, but I think you're being a bit over-the-top in your description of the test. A little common sense and a little memorization clears that hurdle pretty nicely. It's not a difficult exam at all. The most qualified rehabbers are the ones with years of experience, not the ones who have a piece of paper saying they passed a test
jeez leave him alone!
what's so funny.
That is the worst thing you can do. Fledgling Jays need to be left alone unless you absolutely don't see their parents around. They are learning to fly, and their parents will come and feed them and will protect them.
i guess you never heard of cats and other predators ... Enough with that bs .. i found 2 babies , one days old with their eyes still closed and no flight feathers ... the other just a bit younger then the one in this video . we brought that one to rescue and guess what ... it died the following day . the one we raised and released is doing absolutely amazing over 1 year later and has babies of her own . Thank goodness we disn't do as you suggest and left it alone
The worst of the predators are NOT cats but crows & raptors!!! Th OP is an asshat. I saved a baby jay from a crow & hawk fighting over it & even though the parents chased me, I am proud to announce that he is now living in my yard with his parents coming to check on him & have fed him twice. I've been feeding him & put him in my greenhouse over night & return him to the trees/bushes in the morning. Helping a baby bird is a noble thing & not an easy undertaking. The wildlife center I often bring critters & birds to is currently overwhelmed & considering I have experience hand raising birds, they gave me tips & "recipes" to make foods for him. Thanks to people who care for Nature's children... :)
Kerry Cook that's great that you have experience, and give the parents access.
The Jay I found in my driveway made it to a high branch of a bush. There is deffinalty a difference between finding a fledgling who is learning to fly, and finding a nestling who has fallen.
The one in my driveway did draw the attention of Crows, but the parent were fierce in defending it. Once it made it into the bush, all the ruckus stopped
@shatteredverve You don't keep it with you forever! You keep it until it is old enough to fly, and then you say goodbye, feed it a seed from your seedfeeder, then let it fly. They're not pets...
OMG! IT'S MORDECAI!
Warning never force feed a baby bird

Es mordecai de bebe
Birds (like other animals) have a thing called instinct... believe me the bird would of act naturally to its environment. If I find baby birds I just let the bird/animal rescue take care of them as they are trained... they then (when the bird is able) let them go free.
My bad I take my comment back, didn't realize you have to trigger it to eat.
water kills birds.. not how to do it at all :(
That was like 13 or14 years ago. Live and learn. All we can do is our best and figure things out along the way. Since then, I have successfully rehabilitated and released many birds and other wildlife. Thanks for your comment. Cheers!
that poor baby is scared
no ;( the baby bird died over night, so then the next day we barryed him
Don't feed blue jays worms. Only Robins can tolerate the parasites in them. It's better to feed baby jays small pieces of fruits and vegetables, and maybe some small pieces of moist cat food. Or even better, take the bird to a center that cares for abandoned and injured animals.
