Original logic is, egg is something that could have had a life so they are categorized into non-veg... But then it's all depends on people and why they are vegetarians... For me it's a cultural thing... Also the imitation started for newer generation to get an incentive to stay vegetarian.😉

DKDKTV it depends on the people yes for the "its tastes like meat". Personnaly i dont eat things with the meat taste bc its disgust me. I like meat but my brain remembers that its a dead animal so it transform the taste in a disgusting thing. Its like if you eat something, enjoy it and after we tell you its human meat, you will automatically vomit because your brain knows its bad.

I'm vegan and it's not even fun how often i hear this 6:03
Most vegans and vegetarians don't go vegan or vegetarian because they think meat is disgusting.
Most people change their diet for ethical, environmental or health reasons...
They like the taste they just don't like what had to happen to get it on their plate
Hope i could clear that up ^^
    greetings from the Netherlands :)

A lot of people that were raised as vegetarian (e.g. Hindus who make up a significant % of the south asian population) are genuinely disgusted by the concept of eating meat because that's just how they have been raised and not due to 'ethical' reasons that they became aware of later in life. Because they are not brought up with it, they never develop a taste for meat and some are genuinely disgusted by the taste and texture.
I'm just saying that it's not always about upholding ethics/morals/health, some people are just brought up that way and that should be respected too.

@@kirampd4545 yeah but the reason that vegetarianism evolved in the Indian subcontinent is due to moral, health and ethical reasons which are discussed and debated in Hindu ,Buddhist , Jain philosophy which shaped the traditions and attitude's of people in the subcontinent even leading to one of the earliest environmentalist and animal protection movements with examples of that such as bishnoi community. the core of it is not disgust towards meat but but living in a way that causes least harm to the living and non violence specially when you have the choice to with varying ethical and spiritual arguments(as in Hinduism and Jainism plants and animals too are deemed to have consciousness coming under the same atman brahman notion) made preferring a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle in knowledge systems like Ayurveda or various other philosophical and lifestyle texts so there are various reasonings that shaped the culture but of course born vegetarians are more accustomed to vegetarian food and may not like non vegetarian food just as born non vegetarians are more accustomed to non vegetarian food its not like one is natural and other is a choice carnism is a choice and ideology too just like veganism, its just that its the majority.

because no one quits eating meat cus they don't like the taste of it, they quit because of the repercussions of eating meat. Having the options of meat alternatives makes the choice of being more eco-friendly, cruelty-free and healthier much easier as it helps with cravings. eating more plant based is a lot harder for most people cus they are having to change their entire diet esp if they were eating meat focused meals most of the time. so i feel like people who mock why vegans/vegetarians eat mock meat is odd considering the value behind eating a meat free diet doesn't suddenly disappear because your food looks/tastes like meat.. it's being realistic and helpful for those that struggle.

I grew up with both of my parents eating vegetarian, however, my brother and I were not forced to eat vegetarian therefore when we head to vegetarian restaurants our parents will order the fake meat for us. I think that fake meat is also a way to introduce to a meat eater that vegetarian does not only consist of only just veggies.

Also not all people goes vegetarian/vegan for animals.
Also for health reasons» reduces probabilities to have a TON of diseases like cancer and cardiovascular diseases» your coresterol will reduce. Also you'll lose a lot of weight.
And for environmental issues: you know, meat industry is killing the planet, producing more contamination than the whole transportation system. Yes.

Hey guys! A couple of points to help you out!
With regards to the logic behind vegetarianism and "fake meat", it very much depends on the vegetarian and their reasons for eating that way. Many actually like meat but choose vegetarianism for animals or for the environment. I personally do not like red meat anyway but I do like chicken so I love eating fake chicken haha. I have many vegetarian friends, (I am a pescetarian) some HATE fake meat. Some love it, some (including me) and will eat fake meat for variety, to make certain dishes (like hot dogs) and to get a bit of extra protein. I imagine the place you went to had lots of fake meat for Korean-born vegetarians who are taking their meat-eating friends along. Where I live (in England) there is a HUGE vegan/vegetarian population so vegetarian restaurants have little or no fake meat. Whereas in Berlin, Germany there is a huge vegan/vegetarain boom happening there which has a lot of fake meat but it makes sense in a country with such a large meat culture. If you do this challenge again I recommend visiting an Indian vegetarian restaurant as they have a long tradition of vegetarian cuisine (with no fake meat).
A note on sausages/hotdogs - actually meat sausages , especially hotdogs tend to traditionally (this is the case in England anyway) have a lot of "filler"-like herbs, wheat, oats and onions, so vegetarian sausages often taste remarkably like meat ones.
Here are some definitions to help out!
Vegetarian: Eats NO meat/fish but does eat animal by-product (dairy, eggs, honey, etc)
Vegan: Eats no meat, fish or animal by-products (and most will not wear leather or even wool clothing/accessories)
Pescetarian: A vegetarian who eats fish and other seafood
Pollotarian: Someone who does not eat red meat or fish but will eat chicken and even turkey
Pollo-Pescetarian: Someone who does not eat red meat but does eat chicken and seafood
Flexitarian: Someone who is ethically conscious but will "flex" their eating habits, so if they went to South Korea they may eat meat or fish if they get desperate but when they are cooking at home they may eat little or no meat or fish as it is better for their health and/or the environment.
Thank you for making this video, maybe you could try out "no meat mondays" :) xxx

I always admire that you challenge yourself. My question is how hard is it to stay away from meat in broths? That seems like it'd be the trickiest part about going to a no vegetarian place because there are a lot of foods that use animal parts but aren't actually meat.
I wouldn't say I'm a full time vegetarian but I go months without eating meat just because it's cheaper for me plus there's also a lot of non meat options available where I live too

    • @DKDKTV
      @DKDKTV  6 років тому +12

I'd stay away from broths if you're eating vegetarian in Korea. Most Korean restaurants serve food with some kind of broth, and it's most likely made from animal parts.

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 4 years. I used to love the taste of meat, adore it even. I went vegetarian because I believe that we are all animals and deserve to be treated the same way. What most meat eaters don’t understand is most vegetarians and vegans didn’t change their diet because they dislike the taste of meat, that’s why most of us don’t mind the meat alternatives that have been made to taste like meat because we still like the taste yet it’s a relieving feeling and thought knowing we’re not eating the flesh of our own.

I’m a vegetarian hindu so my entire family for possibly 1000s of years have been strict vegetarian. So since birth I haven’t grown up eating meat in my house nor when I go out to eat at restaurants. I also am growing up in the US so sometimes there are cultural mishaps when you live in an area without many Indians. Personally, I don’t want to stay strict vegetarian and I want to try new cuisines and foods.. because as much as it is comfortable for me to be a vegetarian, it also limits how much I can try in the world. So occasionally when I go out with friends I try meat and other stuff I can’t eat with my family. Honestly regarding if I like meat, I don’t neeed it to live.. like the taste is okay but it isn’t flavorful enough for me to say I can’t live without it. People have been hyping it in front of me my whole life so I guess you can say I was pretty underwhelmed. It’s interesting that the food you were fed while raised influences your taste buds so much. Also because my family has been vegetarian for so long, many people have told me my body could react weird to the meat because I lack what’s needed for it to digest properly.. but fortunately (I personally) didn’t get any problems with the meat I’ve ate so far. It was really interesting and a slight eye opener to watch this. Seeing how things that are normal for me were completely different for you.

Being a vegetarian for five years now, and I eat fake meat all the time. Which I like and hate. Now I didn't stop eating meat because I dislike the taste but because of me not wanting to be part of the meat industry. Even now it's still hard sometimes but for the most part it's great. One time I ate little bite of chicken by accident and yuck so I think my taste buds have adjusted. I love vegetables and the main reason I eat the fake "meat" products is because I don't like cooking.
Anyways every time I go to a Korean restaurant i get the Kimchi Pancake & Japche w/o the beef. It's not a perfect science but is just about taking one meal at a time and I like how a whole new world opens up for you.

The logic behind not eating eggs comes down to animal exploitation. Eating eggs can still indirectly or sometimes directly cause suffering to an animal (factory farms). I believe most vegetarians and vegans, including myself, choose not to eat any animal products to make sure we do not cause suffering or pain to animals. Also, some people do it for health reasons, as a plant-based diet can be beneficial. Thanks for reading

Probably few people agree with this, but I'm a vegetarian full time, and yes, I like meat, tastes nice and from time to time when people around me eat it I see myself salivating, I can't control it. So to answer your question, personally yes, I wanna eat meat. But it doesn't play down the fact that it's animal. So meat tastes good and more often than not I'd like to eat it if it wasn't for the fact that I'd be disrespectful to my own beliefs. It's a fight of pleasure against moral values.

I've been vegetarian for over 15 years. When you think about it most meat type products (burgers, sausage etc) are shaped and created that way from meat, and have other ingredients added which usually give it it's signature taste (like spices, sauce etc.) So why can't we use other things to create that same shape and taste without the cruelty? It sounds stupid but a pig isn't shaped like a sausage, and a cow isn't shaped like a burger. Those are just things created out of meat...
I'd love to go to Korea one day, but think i'd definitely have to do some proper food planning first!

I really loved this video! Thank you so much! When I was in South Korea I wasn't fully vegetarian yet (although I only made exceptions twice during my stay - for Korean BBQ because it was just too good!), I did struggle to find good vegetarian food. Now that I've fully cut out meat and fish products (I do eat cheese, eggs, milk and honey) I'm sure it will be even harder XD.
When I go back to South Korea, I'll definitely try to find that vegan restaurant you were talking about :) Thank you so much for this!

I think one of the reasons why vegetarians/vegans have meat substitutes is to help those who are going through the transition period. Some vegans may like the taste of meat just not the ethics behind it. What gives meat taste is seasoning so it is easy to trick yourself with mushrooms or any other meat substitutes. As a newbie vegan (1 year strong) I had to Veganize the foods that I used to love as an Omnivore. Tbh when vegan meat subs look or taste like meat it scares me. I eat mostly whole foods and rarely eat processed vegan food. Although every now and then I treat myself.

kane you can definitely survive. I'm planning a trip. Vegan essentials: rice, beans, potatoes and cheap veggies. I know fruit is pricey in Korea. You can get veggie bibimbap minus the egg and bring your own gochugang. I found a vegan gochugang online and at a grocery store called Clark's. Follow Mommytang. Be vocal when ordering food. Download Happycow it helps find vegan/ vegetarian restaurants all over. :)

I think the problem is not with the vegetarians but with that restaurant. Or probably that restaurant is for Koreans who tried to change into a vegetarian... so they're purposefully attracting them meanwhile giving a taste of meat since they're just now converting...
But I don't think a vegetarian since birth (this will apply only to certain countries or families which has some tradition of being a veg, especially highly in India) they won't expect at all for food to taste like meat..
But yeah it's so hard for vegetarians to live in Korea. So even though that restaurant meat-coated everything, it's good that you showed us so that travellers who are vegetarian will know a place to eat at least.
Plus this will be very helpful to another category of ppl like me. Ppl who'll eat Non-veg but only halal foods. I hope you'd know the meaning. Being a Muslim even though you eat non veg, you have to check everytime if it's halal. That's our rule. So for ppl like that this restaurant will be helpful. We're eating veg plus also getting a taste of meat.
(I'm an omnivore and I eat veg a lot than non veg. Cuz I'm an Indian, so vegetarian is primary here.. in our culture .. our food.. people vary. There are carnivore Indians but you can't eat non veg Alone in India .that's so difficult )

Personally I don't like meat because I don't have the best experience. Becoming vegan helped me have a better relationship with food. I know people become vegan/ vegetarian because they can't eat animals. I don't mind people eating meat. The slaughter houses videos people watch aren't all factories. I have been to factories, farms, and ranches that respect their animals. They make sure the animals is healthy and happy. The farmers always say to respect animals because we are taking a life. To me all food is precious. This is why we shouldn't waste food. Whether its a piece of fruit or chicken there's been money, work, and love involved. Food is food.

Places like Korea, China, Japan etc will be a tough place for people who have been vegan or vegetarian since birth because they mostly don't like the taste or involvement of meat in their food at all. The ones who've recently quit maybe find it difficult to cope and find alternatives. It's almost like it's impossible to avoid interaction with meat food even if you don't have it. And cross contamination with it is unavoidable too. :/

She did that 2 weeks ago with a meatball of barely 1 cubic cm and I got sick. TWICE. well at least now I never have to eat meat again :)
P.s. don't force vegetarians to eat meat for whatever reason, they'd rather skip a meal then eat something with meat most of the time.
My aunt said that I called myself vegetarian didn't mean I didn't have to eat the meat she gave me.
Well thats the exact definition but she didn't care much

In spiritual vegetarianism (which we follow in India) we don't eat non-vegetarian so that animals are not hurt. As we believe that eggs are birth shells for little chickens (even though they lose the potential to give birth after being in poultry farms [Idk how to put that better]) They (The eggs) could still have been potential life, so we don't eat eggs.

I honestly have no urge to eat meat anymore but if it's a challenge to find vegan and vegetarian dish or to even get a dish and say no egg no meat then I KNOW it'll be a challenge to get alkaline plant base meals that I actually eat in Korea then. 😂 Maybe I find fried oyster mushrooms when I visit Korea tho🤞🏽

I’ve been vegetarian my whole life because I was raised that way. I could eat meat if I wanted to, but I don’t really want to. I keep it up for health reasons, sometimes being vegan when I can resist the urge to eat cheese. As far as imitation meat goes, I like eating it because I like the taste. Some of them aren’t as good, so I just don’t eat them, but sometimes just even the texture is good to have to cook with.

Here comes the education segment: Vegetarians eat eggs but Vegans don't. While neither of them eat fish. If you eat fish, eggs and milk but not meat, you are considered Pescatarian. The logic behind each is what type of animals you consider don't deserve to be killed for your own pleasure, and what treatment you consider acceptable. For example, if you are Vegetarian, you disagree with animals being killed but you are okay with exploiting them for their milk and ovum. If you are Vegan you disagree with both.

Many vegans don't eat animal products, meat, dairy etc not just because they don't agree with killing the actual animal but because of the process of obtaining eggs and milk etc and the impact that it has on the earth. The amount of methane that they produce and the amount of water that is required to keep the process going can be considered detrimental to the planet. :)

well the simple logic is you should not torture or hurt (bloodshed) a creature for your food. plant based vegan foods are not only good for your health but also if u r chopping off any veggies then u wont find them screaming with pain as they dont have that kind of nervous sensation. plant based food are not only easily digestible but also simple to cook (not as messy as flesh and blood). egg is non vegetarian if it is fertilized and has a zygote inside it and it has the life expectancy and possibility of a birth of a living creature I.e., baby chick. A hen starts laying eggs after it reaches its reproductive stage, it doesn't matter whether she mates with a male brood or not, its just like the women start menstruating after they hit their puberty. so if the egg from a bird is fertilized and u r eating it, then u r killing an animal hence its non-veg. But if the eggs are not fertilized and cannot be hatched into baby chicks in future then u can eat it as u are not killing any animal hence its vegetarian.
In countries like Canada, America, India, German etc. they have separate farm for broody hens which is totally isolated from male birds so that these female birds can lay unfertilized eggs which can be edible by vegetarians. for chicken purposes they have another section of farm where male and female both birds are kept together. i hope u understand now.

Don't vegetarians eat eggs? You could've eaten the egg in the bibimbap. Vegans don't eat eggs. My friend keeps asking me to go vegan with her. It ain't happening. I told her the most I'd do is try out being vegetarian, but I like chicken and seafood so I can't go all in.
I've thought about this before. I think it's funny that so many vegetarian and vegan products, and restaurants mimic meat. If you don't eat meat, shouldn't you just make regular vegetable meals instead of trying to mimic meat? I've only actually been to one vegan restaurant (because of that same friend mentioned earlier). Their menu items imitated meat also, but I got a nice veggie wrap with mushrooms. THAT was good and it wasn't an imitation of meat.
I like how David gets a sausage after eating vegetarian food. That's so me.
I remember when Damon (or one of the other guys from the channel) was commenting/promoting on a live stream and Danny told him to stop spamming xD Now they're hanging out, lmao. I know his channel, so at the time I thought it would be funny if you guys ran into each other eventually. And no meat for 30 days is definitely too long. That's a punishment. Don't punish yourself, Danny.
Edit: Had to correct Damon's name. Thought it was David also, lol.

Ugh, that's such an ignorant and stupidly common statement that comes from meat eaters. You do realise that a lot people go vegan/vegetarian because of ethical and health reasons right? Not because we don't like the taste of meat. Personally, I went vegan after researching the treatment of animals and the impact on the environment- I ate meat for all 17 years of my life until that point because I loved the taste of it. If I didn't like meat I wouldn't have ate it before, but because I did like the taste of it that's why I still eat mock meats occasionally. I'm not going to suddenly hate the taste of meat just because I don't eat it anymore, it's like saying to an alcoholic that they're going to hate drinking alcohol after a while of not drinking- completely untrue and dumb. I grew up eating meat my whole life, my taste buds have become accustomed to the taste and texture of it, therefore I crave that substance sometimes which is why I (and many other vegan/vegetarians) eat these mock meats. So stop with your stupidity.

Egg is not technically meat, cause eggs pop out of a chicken no matter if it slept with the cock or not, you don’t need to kill chicken to get eggs too, I had chickens in my village and no any male chickens, they still gave eggs, and that’s how it happens at the factories
