    Your hard work is paying off Terry. You've most definitely raised the bar in terms of presentation and general content. You've always been good, but things have become far more interesting.
    You're also demonstrating very well that you don't always need a second mortgage to enjoy audiophile levels of HiFi.

    Great review. I have the 160m’s which are very slightly larger. I thought they had a great sounding bass as well. Their best attribute and not difficult to hear. Very good 60’s and early 70’s classic rock speakers. I use Canton Vento reference 7 towers which are of course better and beautifully made in Germany but the Klipsch bass has a nice free rounded sound. I thought they got that port right and they’re relatively inexpensive in the US.

    It's so refreshing to see a reviewer try multiple adjustments before coming to conclusions. Those "other" websites assert the Klipsch RP-600M are "broken" due to the crossover frequency dip and offer to sell you their "fix." But I, too, have run experiments using DSP on the 600M, and what sounds best to my ears is definitely not the flat response. In fact, I ended up not needing DSP for the best final result because I could reach the best result for me by simply choosing tubes in my amp that synergizes better with the speaker.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  4 роки тому +1

      Its interesting, I cut a whole section of the review out talking about amplifiers - my point in that section was not to use HiFi components to try muzzle the sound of the RP-600M because if your finding yourself trying to muzzle them then they are not the right speaker for you, I think you want to use an amp that pushes them to do what they are designed to do - be raw sounding fast and lively, there are other speakers that can cuddle you better if that is more your thing.
      I thought it was worth writing this here, in case someone reads it and it helps them or gives them another opinion :)

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  4 роки тому

      There is also a chance that a hardware fix will be better than a software fix for something like this, so I wasn't having a pop at the guys who do the mods - I was trying to get AV receiver users the heads up that as some of the DSP solutions might to try and put a straight line through them and create the same effect

    Really enjoying the big group comparison. One area that I find that doesn't get discussed much is pricing.
    I know as the reviewer you have to rely on MSRP as sales/deals are different for each region. But they can be quite drastic going from one market to another. (Probably dependent on dealer networks / distribution costs).
    I was surprised to see the cost of the Klipsch ...
    -In Canada the RP600M regularly drop down to $650 CDN (MSRP is $850) - which is around (375 pounds).

    Interesting observations in your evaluation of these overly hyped speakers. In the 80's I owned Klipsch Heresy 1, and in the 90's I had large Klipsch towers for my Home Theater system. However those are now ancient speakers, and both Klipsch and I have evolved and become more refined. I look forward to your sound demo of the Klipsch RP-600M. Hopefully, after you conclude the review of each particular speaker set, you will give us a shoot out demo of your top three speakers of the nine sets. Thanks Terry.

    I just received mine today and I totally agreed with your review. I don't mind too much with the 1.5k dip. This is perfect for metal and rock, I can turn it really loud without being annoyed. The horn guide provides a natural reverb which makes the high frequency less intrusive. The only 2 negative I can think of are I can always locate the horn location and image can be a little better.

    100% agree with the comments on the midrange. I really like these speakers when I got them as they're engaging and fun and sound good at lower volumes. However, when I bought some KEFQ150s on sale, and played them back to back, the contrast really made me notice what was missing in the RP600M midrange. At first, I attributed it to driver integration, like maybe there were too many dbs down at some frequency. But after seeing this I realize it's just that the tweeter is handling too much of the midrange and it loses some weight.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 роки тому

      Hi Erik - in a way the treble being more created by the horn is what gives the speaker its sound, but its also what gives the speaker its sound so there are definitely 2 sides to it which makes it quite a unique listen at this price point

      I also own both sets of speakers out right, to me, the RP-600M blows the water out of the KEFs on low and high end, with a more lively and exciting sound. The kefs are better at mid range, better sound stage and slightly better imaging, but their low end almost non-existent and if there is, it sounds muffed. I feel like the 600M is the party speaker while the Kefs are better for classical and jazz music. So if you like hip hop and EDM, it's 600M for sure. Other types of music? Probably Kef.

    hello terry, i like your reviews, you are the best. i would like to ask you a question about the difference between klipsch and bowers in regards of their sound presentation as i am not able to audition them, you said both speakers are engaging, but how would describe the difference between them, is the klipsch more fun listening to more than the bowers 606,which one is better for home theater, also it would be very helpful if you had described how these speakers perform with budget amplifiers or at least not top of the line systems.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 роки тому +1

      Klispch can do better bass bowers has better mid range both have lively treble but its delivered differently. The treble from the klipsch makes the overall speaker sound more lively. The treble from the bowers makes it sound faster crisper and leaner where its emphasising detail a little bit more rather than making the whole presentation from the speaker more lively sounding.
      Both have their strengths and neither are perfect. Its hard maybe put on some headphones and watch my demo videos for more insight than I can give you in words alone :) not easy to explain

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  4 роки тому +3

      yes both have a lively intended top end to make the speakers sound fast and detailed but the way both speakers do it is different. Bowers push the treble from the 1inch dome by raising the freq in that region - while this works it can make the treble sound crispy and a bit splashy. The Klipsch does the same thing but by using the efficiency and projection of the horn and they can keep the freq response flat, the upper energy has more refinement to it as a result.

    Nice review!
    The question is: Do you get the same sound if you DSP correct the cross over dip that still retain the original less quality cross over components in the original cross over?
    Those who makes the modifications (including my self) replace to better quality resistors, inductors and capacitors (a whole new cross over with point to point wirering is done.)
    So the sound quality should logically be better with modification of the cross over components with superior quality.
    Than keeping the lesser quality components AND also dragging the signal true a DSP.
    That can result most likely in what the reviewer experienced..
    So it is apple and pear comparison and will mislead some..
    Otherwise I like the review. In the footage we see upgraded jumpers and also with no jumpers at all (biwire). Not mentioned how the review sample were used.
    Anyway a flaw that the speaker terminals has is that when you use bare wire and for example tightening down a solid core conductor then it will not clamp down on the original "gold" tinplate. Because the tinplate is is to thin (or the hole is to far "away").
    So you end up poor contact to the next driver.. (a insider tip for your next review/comparison) 😉

      I always replace the included jumpers with matching speaker cable jumper links - in this case its Tellurium Q Statement cable that I am using because that is what I use because its the best of what I have access to - I have done the same thing for all the speakers with dual binding posts - and I have shown me doing it without trying to make a thing of it to upset anyone - the info is there if you care to pay attention to it.
      I wasn't having a pop at anyone doing mods to the speakers I was trying to make people aware that just using DSP and sticking a straight line eq through the dip doesn't work, at least in my test - someone else may prefer that more forward sound but its not a quick fix - but that the freq dip is very much a characteristic of how the speaker sounds so its important to talk about it and then my approach to working around it. Sorry if that came across in the wrong way, it wasn't intentional

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks I did not suggest that you pop.
      Just pointing out that DSP+old crossover is not the same as no DSP+new crossover. And that is not a comparison.
      But I appreciate that you bring up and test that it is adjustable with DSP.👍
      In my room and gear the measurement with between old and new crossover. Gave up to 10% shorter decay times that is maybe why they sound "faster" (sorry I didn't find a better word) after the modifications.
      The modifications also included lining all the inside of the enclosure with "nores" and better binding posts. Also every connection is soldered even the cables direct to the drivers. All the attention to details accumulates.
      Good take on the low crossover point in your review compare to other 2 ways. That is in my opinion maybe a good thing when I consider the tweeter being the star of the show. 😀
      (Note that the reference point is at tweeter height on this model. And not in-between the drivers that is often the case.)
      Thanks!

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  4 роки тому +1

      The low crossover point is what took me some getting used to but then I realise it makes the speaker sound faster but its a different presentation to a cone driver doing that part of the range, its more clinical sounding, less rounded sounded but after an adjustment and a little dsp fix then I managed to balance that out nicely. Dirac also improves the speakers impulse response which is probably the equivalent of other hardware changes and also managing frequency at the MLP has its benefits too - but I like the idea of improving the cabinet because that was a little disappointingly "ringy" especially in the lower half of it from memory more than the upper half maybe the other way around? Nice idea with that one and all the mods really

    You going to be shocked Terry lol I have to agree with you on the dip it is there for a purpose mainly to stop the horn tweeter being shouty, and because they are designed for home cinema doesn't work well having a flat frequency response around that frequency. Somebody trying to make a lot of money selling crossovers for these speakers what is a con. I would put a dip round the 3K mark, maybe one to one-and-a-half DB down and see how that sounds what would be the third harmonics you might need to tweak it slightly lower down at 2.7kHz up half a dB . You should have shown your graph after the tweak so we could have had a comparison with them both do them sign by side??
    I think there's a better candidate speaker and have mentioned it before and you poo pooed it unjustifiably you shouldn't, it is a hi-fi speaker in its own right, and is cheaper than all the others at about £300 and I think better than any of them you're showing! The Tannoy monitor gold active speaker 8 inch. I think you should throw into the mix fits in nicely especially playing it's through a valve amp, And all the speakers you shown have been used with the same preamp and power amp? I think you're missing a gym there you in the bubble too much of hi-fi throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I think I got all my analogies in there hahah. Give it a go I'll buy them off you I was going to get a pair anyway. Let me give you a little tip you haven't heard it from me!!!! probably the best pre and definitely phono amp in the world the Thöress,
    now I'm after second-hand one mainly phono stage but I'll take the preamp I'll pay a good price anybody got one have to hear it running?
    They make speakers as well they look interesting you know the company should be on your radar.
    Try some heavy books on top of the speakers set back about 2 inches from the front baffle should help with the boxiness but they got to be heavy books two or three books
