BE CREATIVE! You can use this same technique with Garland, Aluminum Foil, Plastic Wrap, Plastic Paint Drop Cloths... etc.... what else have you tried with similar results?
Thanks a lot for showing the ENTIRE process/thinking, Joe. Very creative. Very inspiring. Really like the way you show the shooting scene, lights, reflectors, positions, distances, etc. Very helpful.
I first saw this shoot on instagram this morning. You certainly make it look like fun. I bought one of those "Walmart" reflectors, thanks for making fun and informative videos....
Thanks Joe my wife was around and seen your video too. And now she running to the store for Christmas decorations, since I can use them too in photos 🤣 next time do something where I can get a Olympus pro lens HAHA!! But good DIY video 👍
Another wonderful and creative video. I’m sorry I missed you at Precision Camera in Austin. Maybe next time, but until then I’ll keep watching your videos and learning. I have some MagMod gels on the way. Thanks again.
Thank you Joe! I was looking for something like this to experiment at home... I only have one flash and that is a Godox V860 II but I also have a continuous light kit and a homemade color modifier that I made but I think it could work. Thanks again for inspiration.
Thanks for the inspiration Joe I think I need to try and take some portrait shots and try out this sort of make shift background :D It is far too long since I took anyones portrait so I will have to get my old lights out and give it a go. Many years ago I tried using an old pair of crushed velvet curtains and they worked well when draped in folds in the background. Happy New Year for 2019 :D Teddy
OMG Joe This is a great video I like these short "How To" videos for some quick inspiration and know how to get my Motor Running again Best regards, Rick
Thats awesome glad to see more people using the dollar store boards instead of buying those rediculously expensive v flats from the official website. I made a black and white one for 25 bucks lol. Thanks for the ideas with the garland and gels, i was going to shoot my kids with the usual christmas light bokeh in the back but this is just awesome.
Joe, can you make at least one bad video so I don't have to keep complimenting you ? Just kidding, an excellent job as always. Thank you for teaching us this technique. Your a great teacher and always well prepared.
ok, i watched your videos, just want to say that you are realy inspiring and it is a pleasure to watch and lisent any joe's video. i was not interesting for experimenting with photography before you and realy grumpy terry lane, wich also shoot on olympus. as i am film set designer, i was looking for camera wich will help me to make some better images of my work, i use my phone and i want an upgrade, so i spent lot of time watching all sorts of videos and i have tried all sorts of cameras wich ppl recomend. for me and my prise range fuji have all but outofocus is bad in cameras like xt100, sony, eh, i love sony but i need to double my budget for a6400 and some nice zoom, i hate canon, im shure they use some crapy old sensors in m50 and it is so cripled design with lack of controls but i was ready to take m50 because it is most advertised budget camera on the world and on the youtube, as photography newb i thaught its was me. but, after watching some of your videos, i took omd em 5 mii from friend. man, i caant say enough nice things for that camera. i have tons of ideas for creative videos and photos, i even tried street photography 2 days ago, and idk what is it but haveing right gear is probably haveing gear wich makes u happy and confortable, i decided ill buy olympus, just id like your small advice, omd em5ii with 2 pro lances, or em1ii with 1 standard kit.
I am kind of sad, because the States have so many great markets like walmart and other. I always have to search for shops that sell anything with camera equipment and it is just overpriced in Germany. But still a cool video.
Joe, are you ever planning to review that Molight beauty dish? I've been eyeballing them for a while can't find any reviews of the quality. It is nearly identical to one from Fotodiox which hasn't gotten great reviews on build quality and I'm worried it's built in the same factory with a simple re-brand. By the way, we know you faked that bokeh in PS. It's scientifically impossible to create bokeh with anything less than a full frame sensor and F1.2 lens 😉
BE CREATIVE! You can use this same technique with Garland, Aluminum Foil, Plastic Wrap, Plastic Paint Drop Cloths... etc.... what else have you tried with similar results?
Hi what's is the best color to wear when filming on blue for a child
I always appreciate when an experienced photographer demonstrates that yes, impressive bokeh can be had on M4/3. Great video, Joe.
Thanks a lot for showing the ENTIRE process/thinking, Joe. Very creative. Very inspiring. Really like the way you show the shooting scene, lights, reflectors, positions, distances, etc. Very helpful.

Your video lighting looks different from previous videos I have seen. Are you trying new led lights ?
Joe, can you make at least one bad video so I don't have to keep complimenting you ? Just kidding, an excellent job as always. Thank you for teaching us this technique. Your a great teacher and always well prepared.
Great video
Thank you Divi Photos! I appreciate the comment.
Hi - do you have a link to the reflector holder in front of the model
Wondering if you did some compositing on this image the way you kept the Red rim lights off her face only seems possible with post-production?
No compositing, Kosmon Parran. The key is careful placement of the rims.
Love it
Awesome Andrew Morale! Thanks for commenting!
Thanks Joe.
You're welcome David Harrison I appreciate the comment!
Budget Bokeh Balls! wow.
I guess I dont need that f1.2 lens
