- How can we fix our great game at the local level?
After playing for 13 different country, community and international football clubs over 2024 I feel there is a need to address some issues.
Why some local clubs struggle, and then what we can all do to fix it!

This is incredibly simplistic. Say Echuca or Albury/Wodonga for example how many clubs within a 50km radius? It’s impossible to go to support all the local clubs. There are too many clubs in smaller areas due to a range of issues but because of history etc of course we don’t want clubs to fold. You also haven’t even touched on the major issue and that’s the money that players are demanding to play (in a lot of cases sub standard football)
I’m not sure making one trip to a club and playing one game makes you “the most qualified” TBH.
Prime,
Interesting video and I completely agree with the idea of social media being a great tool to lure sponsors. I also agree that for alot of small country town clubs, the end is inevitable and there isnt much they can do unfortunately. I do think that lots of local clubs arent helping themselves by signing recuits on excessive amounts of money. I also play cricket and every year you see clubs go out and spend thousands of dollars on players. The footy club I am currently involved with decided around 5-6 years ago that they were going to invest time and money into the junior program at the club. In the last few years they have seen around 12-15 junior players progress into the senior ranks. My point being, because these players have played at the club, they are loyal and aappreciate the club. They arent draining money out of the club with ridiculous paychecks each week. If more clubs thought this way, local footy will be in a healthier position in 10-20 years time.
Tommy boy , looking good as ever. Love your work and you make so much sense mate . Hope to bump
Into you somewhere in the footy world . Back in Melbourne coaching at local level. Keep up the great work and remember

I always thought the local footy club model could be looked at again, yeah you've got the canteen and the bar. I think turning the football clubs bar and canteen and incorporating more of a pub feel to it.
If there isn’t any work people aren’t going to go to these towns to live and play footy. Social media won’t fix that.
Onya mate, you make a heap of sense 👍🇦🇺
Player payments ruin clubs. Why develop the younger kids when you can just bring someone in?
Players are asking for way too much money.
Plus the lack of population is just the main killer.
Also people are lazier these days and just don’t want to be active
Tom, I gather clubs will need to merge and the number of competitions in the local area may need to reduce.
schools need to take footy seriously, get familys invlolved, imagine if we put even half the effort in the same as the US does
schools are already beginning to dominate football. Look how many draftees played APS football over Talent League footy in Year 12 compared to 20 years ago. But this isn't about that, this is about senior footy clubs, past school.
@@ryanfarrar9185 they are always boarding schools or private, nothing like that for the average kid, especially if your not on the east coast
Player payments are getting out of hand. There are ppl on more playin average quality footy than some ppl get for a weeks work.
This video could have been really good, Tom. But your solution does come off as ridiculous at worst and wishful thinking at best. As if you expect people to spend $100 on local football per game. Give it a spell champ.
Geeez blokes just tryna help and you say that? What are your ideas?
@@jimm_2279 what’s your solution then? ☺️
@@PrimeTrainTomBaulchlobby state and local government funding as well as the AFL, mandatory mergers of clubs with declined population growth and low participation, overhaul of current salary cap or even better make payment to players illegal altogether across all local leagues.
Or even better impose a levy tax on player payments (say 40-50%) given the vast majority don’t declare this as income for tax purposes. Really player payments and people like yourself are the real reason local footy is struggling so anything to curbe that is a real solution.
@COVIDPLAYSOFTHEWEEK12345 imposing a tax only hurts clubs worse...how do you tax cash payments?
We need to fix country footy so they can afford to pay Prime Train more. Anything else is a bonus.
Go to terrigal next year
come play for wodonga saints football club in west wodonga for the TDFL football legue
Absolutely wank take here. Wouldn’t expect anything less from Tom
Whats being "in the green" ?? 😂
So no club wants me to play for them in my area. I can give money and sponsorship. What a loss and waste of effort on my part. I'm pissed off. No one cares....where's the love
I don’t like the title you have submitted here
Under 1 min gang
