Air Streams were the Cadillac of trailers in their day. That this one has survived in as good a shape as it has proves they were as good as was claimed. Your wife might think you're crazy, but as I;m sure you know these trailers are still very popular and can sell for quite a lot of money. Nice find!

The 1 and only travel trailer worth buying used or new is the AirStream ,the interiors are a breeze to update because they made their RVs on full trailers unlike so many other models ,I paid $3,200 for my 1971 camper and did a complete remodel ,a buffer and 3 tubs of mother's polish and my 1971 AirStream is so highly polished that it blinds drivers and gets tons of compliments every summer at campgrounds ,we installed a 5.2 channel high end McIntosh home theater HiFi system In ours along with a 40" flatscreen ,we took out the kitchenette to make room for a full living room and built an outdoor kitchen on the tongue as well as a heated outdoor shower .

We had a Travel Trailer on Cape Cod we would spend Summers at from birth until my Parents retired there in '95 and bought a house. It was in a place called "Campers Haven" in Dennisport Massachusetts. Steps away was the beach. Great times as a kid. My Mom had spent summers in the same park in a Tent in the late '30s til she married my Dad and they got their own place. It was small but we really only slept there. We were out doing Fun stuff! Happy Memories.....Your Kids are nice, Great and Fun Parents! lol! I wish my Dad had a "Ghostbusters Ambulance!" But.....Ghostbusters didnt come out til I was Grownup. Airstreams are Top of the Line. They hold up well. Great Vid!

thank you, this reminded me of my old toyota truck/dolphin camper i used to have, I re-apoulstered the cushions & cleaned the stove rust w/brillo pads & polisher for brass. I got new carpet put into it & cleaned all the wood w/ajax & then liquid gold-it was a lot of work, but well worth it, i was lucky, the lady before me had put in new hard wood counter tops & got a new hard wood table for it!...she also had new windows put in, the sliding kind instead of the old kind. It looked like brand new when i was done, i'm sure yours will look the same!!!!

My camper has a 12 volt motor to raise and lower the tongue. use one finger to raise or lower. not a big deal, but it sure makes it easy. Ditto on Dan K's comment. Air stream is the creme de la creme of trailers. Good for you and the family.. I also use a battery operated drill with socket to raise and lower the stabilizers.

If you were not aware before, the TV series Grimm, filmed in Portland, Oregon's Old Town, featured a 1963 Airstream. It was used by the title character to contain information and artifacts to deal with the creatures that were the subject of the series. Yours looks close to the series vintage.

I worked for 8 years at the lock shop that was on 4th and Burnside. The shop was closed in 2001. The Grimm producers never filmed the location including the Chinatown Gateway because the building was being converted to a boutique hotel while the show was in production.

What you really want is a "dual action" polisher. Or to be precise, they're actually elliptical sanders, but if you put a thick pad on it from, for instance, Chemical Guys or other car detail outfits, and use a nice polish (I'd recommend Flitz paste, personally) you can polish aluminum to a mirror pretty easily. Works on paints and plastics too. And the good part about the elliptical sanders/polishers is that they're much safer to use than a normal rotary grinder-style polisher. Those require more skill so you don't cause polishing burns or swirl patterns. but since the dual actions oscillate they are far more usable for a normal home user. A good model in the US is the Porter Cable 7424 XP, that's the go-to for entry level and can be used even by pro detailers.

You guys did a great job getting the trailer out of its spot without damage to the skin i love Airstreams Almost everything the use to build them are high quality products I wouldn't be surprised if you find out all the things like the AC, 12 volt Fans, an most of the accessories work with very minor repairs i bought a 1979 model in the 90s and basically everything wound up working ! I did need to install a new thermo coupler on the propane water heater on. A camping trip to get the heater to work that was a 20 dollar part and a 10 minute job in a campsite (not very tough repair). Good luck. To your family i hope you guys have as much fun and good times with yours as i did with mine my kids and nieces and nephews liked playing "Airplane " in mine when they were young ! I was told many years ago. By a Auto / collector that the only wheeled items that were decent investments to purchase were Airstreams, Harleys , and Mercedes Benzs as those are the only ones that historically will increase in value over time ? I dont know if that is really true as i bought things to enjoy and use not for a financial investment per say i usually told my freinds that it was what i called a investment on fun not necessarily the best on your money
