Now this is how to expect if you had on season durians and not the off season or overriped or the ones that was forced to premature ripe ones. On season fresh ones are the best
usually, when foreigners try durian, they just pick whatever durian they see at the mart and try it. which usually doesn't turn out good. Some species of durian don't taste that sweet and have an alcoholic and bitter taste. They should really do their research on what type to get or what kind of taste they want, to enhance their experience.
you'll get alcoholic and bitter taste if the durian is "too ripe".
@@kinnardbenedict2246 not always the case. XO breed has an alcoholic and bitter taste. And alot of the breeds have a bittersweet after taste as well.
We're in durian season for almost a month here and my sister in law has some trees which produce good fruits. I like durians which are not too sweet, a bit bitter and creamy. Most of all, free durians are the best durians 😂

@@longangrysausage3495 yeah it is. It's not like buying apples. Different species of apples but generally it taste about the same and maybe a little different in texture, but not far off. For durians, the taste can be a huge jump depending on what species you get

Those “rituals” of washing from using the shell is true. The smell really just magically disappear and even leave a flowery smell to your hands
For those that don't know, durians have alot and I DO mean ALOOOOT of variants which would affect the taste.
We have things like XO, D24, D13, Red Prawn also called "Ang Heh" (It just means Red Prawn in Hokkien), MSW aka "Mao Shan Wang", JFH aka "Jin Feng Huang" (Golden Phoenix in Mandarin. Golden Phoenix will do), D101, Black Pearl and a few other types which I forgot.
Not only that, each have different profile of taste and even pungency which would throw you off or hook you in. For us Singaporeans and Malaysians, what we'll mostly go for is D13, D24, MSW, Red Prawn and D101.
D24 for making durian crepe...oh my😋😋😋🤤🤤🤤. I havent had durian crepe during this corona season...maaan

As a Singaporean I will say the ideal durian should be bittersweet and have an alcoholic aftertaste!! It's not supposed to be one-dimensionally sweet or too sweet either. Best way is to place fresh durians in the freezer or fridge for a few hours and enjoy it while its still cold. It will taste much better than the durian ice cream.

in Indonesia, we have a lot of different types of durian foods(?). My favorites are durian pancakes, durian with shaved ice and boba, and durian candies. I wish they could try it someday.

I want to thank whoever brought the durian for them. Actually I was quite sad cause most of them really didn't enjoy it. Turned out it was because they didn't choose the right one. So glad they like it🥺
Tips: the raw durian can be freeze if you want to try durian ice cream
:)) 90% of videos of ppl trying durian for the first time that I found online have the same mistake: timing. The durian is the most timing-sensitive fruit in the world, too soon or too ripe, it'll go bad. The best ones are yellow-ish all around and have a nice sweet smell.

I love durians~ one way I like to have durians is to take out the flesh from the shell, put in a container and put it in the freezer. It will turn into a fresh durian ice cream!
When Jeanette exclaimed "It's not bad", I knew she was a legit durian eater.
Too often you see people get carried away with their excitement and enthusiasm when introducing durian to first-timers. Or worse yet, those who wear their ability to eat durian like a badge of honor. Pride for durian isn't bad in and of itself. But being overly proud can lead to dishonesty. Especially when eating with first-timers. I've seen it happen many times. As though they're putting up a performance when eating durian, so they have to say "delicious" all the time.
But durian is a tricky fruit. To start with, there are plenty of species of durian, each with its own distinct durian flavor. A person who likes Durian X will introduce it to someone who might not enjoy the taste.
Secondly, it's always possible that not all seeds of a single fruit will have the same taste, for various reasons. This was evident during the first video when Amber stumbled onto to the "nicer-tasting" seeds.
Lastly, the best assurance of having a good first experience with durian is to have them during harvest season. And, try having durian in a place where the fruit is a close as possible to where it was harvested. You can see the apprehension in Jeanette's face during the first bite. She knows. Durian that has traveled long distances will most likely not be good. It's because they were harvested just before ripening. Unlike most fruits that ripen during shipping, durian will not develop its full taste when prematurely removed from the tree.
So when Jeanette said that it wasn't bad, respect.

You should bring an expert to pick the right durian to try, especially for the first timer. Perfectly ripe durian doesn't taste weird at all, simply creamy & sweet.

I really hate it when people (like that Bu**F**d) making "first try" durian content but they go by their own and pick durian by themselves. Most of the time they picked overripe durian which is the worst of all for first timer.
Btw you could eat the seed too. NOT RAW SEED, but boiled it for around 10 minutes its salted water. Its taste starchy kinda like potato but firmer and slimy

My grandma teach me to drink a salt water in durian cloves too. But I think people in Indonesia more like the bitter durian tough. In Indonesia with 65$ you can get a cart full of durian but maybe not the monthong or musang king, Palembang's durian is pretty good, Medan too

after eating some poor durian i dodged them for a few years but after that I recently tried musang king and now that's the only durian I eat. I'm glad to say it tastes like hi chew if it has a musang king flavour
In Vietnam we have like 2 another ways to eat durian. Durian crepe and fried durian, I like the 2nd way more.

When durian is undercooked, it's green and smells bad. And it doesn't taste good. However, if the durian skin is yellow, it smells a little, but it tastes the best.

Eh, not many people can try the really sweet durian and smells good one. Most people eat the one that taste / smell like gasoline, and some people including me find it good

On top of the usual popular variants available in other parts of SEA particularly West Malaysia, here in Borneo we also enjoy the wild variant of the durian. In our local tongue we call it dalit. It's smaller, and the colour of the flesh differs too... from deep red, orange to yellow... Its much more creamier and it doesn't smell as pungent. I personally prefer this variety.

Dave should eat durian straight off the tree. I mean almost all ripe fruits taste best straight off the tree... but durians taste changes significantly as the sugar composition changes over time.

I think it would be good if jeanette could explain more abt the different types of durian. Bcos we have many many types of durian in SG and the famous types are Mao Shan Wang, D24, Black gold, XO durian, red prawn and many more. The taste and texture are different depending on the type. And mid autumn festival is coming, we usually have durian snow skin mooncake!

I am not a big fan of eating the fresh durian. I will eat a few if my family is having durian but I really like other kinds of durian flavour food esp durian puffs. The filling is soo creamy and tatste so good even more when its cold. Also durian cake which bakery shops only sells them during the season. So when they start selling durian cake, it starts selling like crazy. Haha. Also durian ice cream..but not like the one you guys were eating in the vid. Lol..

Few days ago I bought udang merah durian, some of the pulps taste exactly like onion. It’s the first time I experience durian with onion flavour 😂😂 it’s so bad, not only the taste, but also the smell and the after taste and it makes my tongue numb like eating mala 😩
