With most coats the clipper vac does its job by lifting the hair being clipped resulting in no lines or choppy cuts. Except, when it comes to drop coated dogs such as Maltese's ect. In this case you clip against the grain in order to avoid lines or choppy cuts. Hope that helps
Do you have a clipper vac? If not you will need to back brush their coat to ensure all the hair is evenly cut at once. Also, prep work is 80% of the groom. Meaning, you need to ensure they're completely clean and dry by using a fluff dryer.
