Pop music seemed so organic and "easy" back in the 1980s. Less polished, yet fresh and original. I was a vocal performance student at college then, and really miss those times!
This left an indelible impression on me as a nine-year old, sitting in my grandmother's living room watching MTV in 1982. I loved their hair and fashion sense. Later on, during my twenties, I looked like a combination of Terry Hall and Siobhan Fahey.
I understand where you're coming from Ann. I remember the lead singer of "Fun Boy Three", Terry Hall (RIP) but, I never had any clue about these songs, because I was a little boy in the 80s. This all started today (half an hour ago as I write this) when I heard/saw their video of the cover of "Are lips are sealed". It's interesting how, when you're younger, songs are JUST fun. And, you love them, for the melodies and tunes. Yet, when older, as an adult? You learn of the subtext and deeper meaning? "The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)" is so spot on for today's world. Ah yes, Bananarama! Widely known as good time girls! 😁 They had a reputation for fun late nights out, clubbing in London, and getting very, verr, verrr drunk! Friends with everyone at the time it seems during the early/mid 1980s! 😁 Eurythmics, Jennifer Saunders, Iggy, Paul Cook, etc... Pals with many!
Think you have forgotten to mention Bananarama as it shows on the original UK pressing www.discogs.com/The-Fun-Boy-Three-With-Bananarama-It-Aint-What-You-Do/release/1455612
Oh Geez, if you wanna open that door, stupid fashions and music groups did NOT begin nor END with the FB3. In fact, they don’t even register a blip on the monitor of stupid fashions in rock and/or roll as far as I’m concerned! I hesitate to give any examples for fear of going on a 3 day tangent that’s out of my control. Just use your imagination.
Loved the music, but I was glad when “The Look” of bands at that time meant you were too cool to even have a little fun! You’re in a successful band fellas and not selling cosmetics at Boots... It’s okay to smile! And yes I know Terry battled depression... Occasionally. But the entire band didn’t.
Who else is rocking out to this classic in 2025?🎉
RIP Terry hall thank you for the great music of 80 the specials n fun boy 3
Siobhan the most beautiful person on Earth in 1982. What a song. Nothing like it subsequently.
