Thanks for these great educational posts. I learned a lot from you and actually got convinced to install a deye system. I'm on 5Kw Deye, 2 X US3000 pylons, and 14 X 410w poly panels(east-west orientation form longer stretch of solar power). The system works very well, I'm still adjusting to it. It is grid tied, so when I deplete my batteries at night, it then switches to the grid. I can also export to grid side of the inverter(export to CT). So during the day when the batteries are fully charged and there isn't any other usage, I use the power from panels and batteries to heat up the geyser(3kw element for 150L) or cook using induction stove/oven/insta-pot. At the rate I'm going, my electricity bill is down to about 25%, and it could go down further with more optimizations. So thank you very much.
Hi Melvin. I am in Limpopo and connected my east-west orientation to an almost identical system, just having one US3000C at the moment. Also grid tie, to save on electricity bill. I opted for a solar geyser when we built our house 5 years ago. i am still learning about the optimal settings from Doctor's videos.
One thing noted here on time of use, your setting in the afternoon is 80%, which means the inverter will use the battery up to 80% state of charge if there isn't enough solar power. I have mine at 30% throughout day and night to shave off the electricity bill as much as possible (our power outages are not as problematic anymore, so never been out of utility power for months now). Also, if you have a bi-directional meter, you could benefit from exporting excess power to the grid whenever it is available. The bi-directional meter will run in reverse, therefore giving you kWh credits. So even if the utility does not buy from you, you actually get to benefit from the kWh units anyway, so nothing to lose there.
It will only use 20% before it charges. Soc will not fall below 80. Thank you for watching and commenting. I am off the grid. My customers don't have smart meters sadly
Very impressed with the functionality of this inverter. Can I suggest you get a sort of tripod stand for your camera so that it does not shake so much? That way you can go ahead with your presentation. Thank you.
@Michael Douglas. glad you like the inverter. Thanks for the suggestion. I have a few tripods and Gimbles but the space I shoot in makes them difficult to use. I will try to use them more. Please don't forget to subscribe
In the manual it says 13 + 13 Amps max for the PV power. 8 panels in one string looks fine, but you can also put 5 + 5 panels in two strings to PV 1 and 2. Another option is to overpanel the inverter more than the rated Wattage. In case of full sunshine and 12 panels 550w each the energy over the rated inverter Wattage shall be clipped and can't be used. But this happens only at rare situations. But pls. confirm this with the manufacturer and your contractor installing the system.
I have a Deye 12kW Single phase inverter and 25kWh Lithium batteries. I also have 30 x 555w Panels with 48v (VOC) and 41.9v (VMP). The inverter specifies max input as 425v per MPPT. Can I connect 10 pannels per MPPT so that I have a total of 30. ???
Hello. I did everything you mentioned. basically i want solar and battery to charge in Day and use Grid to charge the battery by night. I ticked it like your settings. Still the grid is charging the battery and load during the day.
Hi, i bought 5kw Deye and 4x405w jinko mono panels - no batteries. I mounted solar panels to a tiled roof and inverter in the house - the inverter supply my house with solar + grid (hybrid on high loads and solar only on small loads). The problem is when grid goes off the inverter gives error F47 - even though i connect small loads. Your answer will help a lot - currently budgeting to buy 1x3000C polytech.
@@drsolar tomorrow I'm getting the US3000C battery - do I really have to buy a 100A fuse and holder? The battery bms protects it very well + deye is compatible with polytech batteries. I can save some money if the system can protect itself. Please advise

Thanks for the educative post. Well I am using the deye as purely an Inverter charger. Do I set it to Battery first or should I set to to Load first? Somehow I failed to interpret the modes. Basically am using batteries and Grid.
From what I could gather reading the system work mode you basically grid charging the batteries from the grid during 0 sunlight hours and when the sun is out you have "de selected " the grid check box making the solar work to charge the batteries. Have I made an accurate assessment? Looking forward to any feedback from you
Thank you for watching and commenting. You are correct. Using the time of use settings the battery soc also plays a role in when it allows the grid to charge. Those are parameters that you can set too. I hope this helped.
2:40 So what exactly does that 30% mean for the grid? Does it mean that the grid will maintain a 30% minimum charge for the battery? And the solar panels will still be the ones to take the battery to 100% (outside of the System Work Mode settings)?
How do you set the priority as follows: 1. PV 2. Battery 3. Grid I don’t mind the battery draining, as long as the savings is there. I want to use PV and Battery as much as possible
The system automates that process. You can use time of use to pick when you want Otto charge with the grid. In additional settings you can prioritize load over battery. The pv will power loads first before it charges the batteries
Regarding the time of use settings, if for example you set your battery to 50% and Grid falls away while the battery is at 50% for that time period. Will the battery continue to discharge to its set minimum in the battery settings? If you have no PV at this point in time.
Thank you for watching and subscribing. Please don't forget to subscribe and share. Battery Menu, page 2 or down arrow and you can set that info there. Battery start charge is how it is labeled. You can select for Grid and Gen
Hey man, enable "Time of Use" and unselect all the options for "Grid Charge". If you unselect "Time of Use", it will always Grid Charge to 100% capacity, so enable it and just unselect all the Grid Charge options. This will cause the batteries to drop to your discharge threshold, so be careful. Lastly, set your preferred operating setting to "battery first", not "load first".
Hi, I have installed a circuit breaker in my house with an lamp and alarm to tell me when the grid comes. I did it to choose manually if I need to charge (if no sun). Can you advise what Inverter settings I should have and where I can select the Amps to charge from the grid to control costs ie 10A, 20A or 30A
Nice tutorial! Good evening. I just bought DEYE 5KW Hybrid inverter my question is as per manual / schematic the grid and load should be separate connections. Is it the grid connection is only the input side and the output is the load? If I am going to connect External ATS is it necessary? Thank you.
Good day Michael, welcome to the channel. The input is the grid and the output is the load. There are two inputs. Gen and Grid. No need for an external ATS, the inverter does the transfer automatically between grid and UPS. Good luck with your new inverter
good day Micheal and Dr. Solar, If you have the grid connected then the grid input can also act as an out for exporting power back to the grid. This feature is nice since you can connect higher power loads ( beyond rating of the inverter) on the grid side so that they can be powered with solar power if available. You can limit the actual export to the utility by installing the CT (shipped with the inverter) passed the distribution point where you've connected your 'big load' and activating zero export. That way the big load will run with a mix of both solar and grid minimizing your bill.
Dr. Sokar, i have a Deye 12kW single phase. I just acquired a secondhand 15kW generator (Perkins). Can i connect it directly to the Deye inverter without passing through an ATS ? I'd like the generator to self start when my solar output drops.
A BMS is a must. Use the recommendation from the manufacturer. each cell should be between 3 and 3.56 and set float to be 1 volt below your bulk and absorption voltage
I love your Deye videos! I have a question, Say I have 01:00 - 4:00 to drop battery to 60%, NO Charging, and I just want it to use the battery not grid to save bills. What if at 3:00 I already reached 60%? what will happen since i still got 1 hour to go? will the system shut down since I dont have charging enabled? or will it allow it to go lower? 1. I am guessing if I reached 60%, and I had GRID on, it would use grid and not shut down, correct? 2. If I did not have grid, and it reached 60%, and i still got 1 hour to go, no charging enabled what would it do? Any recommendation? thanks!
@@drsolar Thanks for replying! :) so if it reached 60%, and I still have 1 hour to go.. if there's Grid it would use grid, if there's no Grid it would keep discharging breaking the "Time of use" rules?
@@drsolar AWESOME THANK YOU!! 💖One final question is about BEHAVIOR: if I have it 1:00 - 5:00 30%, will it SLOWLY discharge till it reach 30% by 5, or is it possible that I reach 5 way before if I had big loads? And does it discharge the whole load to battery 100%, or will it split it Grid/Battery so it goes down slower? I'm trying to see if the system slowly drains it by splitting load, or if it completely throw the whole load to battery, which means it might reach 30% way before 5 for me!

Hello, I installed a Deye hybrid inverter today with solar panels and 10 kwh lithium battery. I have a question, in Time of Use mode, what does the battery percentage represent when Grid charge and Gen charge are unticked (in the video you set it to 80%).
Hello George welcome to the channel. Thank you for watching please don't forget to subscribe. If the two boxes are unchecked it means that it won't charge when the grid or generator is on. I am off the grid without a generator so my settings are meaningless.
Hi! Two months ago I got installed a solar systems, two 5KW inverters and two 20KW batteries. The installer left the batteries as backup only. However my preference is to deplete the batteries to a certain percentage before using the grid in order to significantly reduce the bill. I live in the Caribbean where there is a lot of sun everyday. What would be the best time of use recommendation you have for my goal? Thanks for your help!
Congratulations on your system. 40kwh in batteries. That is huge. Enable time of use. During the day don't allow grid charge. or you can set the percentage you want it to charge to. Go to the battery settings and select the % you want the grid to start to charge. I hope that was helpful
@@robertomurillo2775 I usually follow the recommendations of the manufacturer. Don't allow grid charge, you can save on your electric bill and discharge to about 25%.
Hi Doctor, hope you are fine. I am having the situation that my inverters are displaying very few solar energy generated even with a lot of sun. If a I turned off the grid with the main breaker, then the inverters show a lot of generated energy. Do you have an idea of how this can be solved?
In the system work mode setting at3:22 in the video. Does this mean the GRID will energize the load or the SOLAR energizing the load (WHEN YOU SELECT LOAD FIRST)? It's a little confusing
Hi good day, what is the main difference between zero export to load and zero export to ct? I have the ct sensor and not selling to the grid. I just want to have the batteries charged by solar to be used at night and when it reaches 20% charge it will automatically use grid. Thanks

What I experienced is that the higher you set your time-of-use (%), the more you will utilize from the grid when it is overcast or when you are struggling to generate solar. I've found the best settings on my setup is to set the time-of-use to 10% for all time periods, then it forces higher solar usage (I also prioritize load before battery), but I have a sizable battery bank, and the bank rarely goes below 40% (unless it's overcast 2 or 3 days in a row).

You are an expert in your field Dr Solar
Thank you Krikor. Did you get to the bottom of your battery issue?
@@drsolar yes it was a bad DC CB causing voltage drop under load.
@@drsolar makes sense if you're off grid.
Thank you for watching and commenting. Nice suggestions
@@Wanderaleo Just looked up the datasheet of Deye 12k Inverter. With Voc of 800V and Max Amps of 34 + 17A you should be able to handle 30 Modules and 15kW from PV.

Thanks for the educative post. Well I am using the deye as purely an Inverter charger. Do I set it to Battery first or should I set to to Load first? Somehow I failed to interpret the modes. Basically am using batteries and Grid.
If you have the grid, I would do load first. You will save on your electricity bills that way. Also set time of use.
Thank you, this still comes in quite handy
Glad it helped. Thank you for watching and commenting.
2:40 So what exactly does that 30% mean for the grid? Does it mean that the grid will maintain a 30% minimum charge for the battery? And the solar panels will still be the ones to take the battery to 100% (outside of the System Work Mode settings)?
Thank you for watching and commenting. Which of the settings are you referring to?
@@drsolar 2:40 of the video.
Good pm does 8.8 deye inverter has ac bypass function?
How do you set the priority as follows:
1. PV
2. Battery
3. Grid
I don’t mind the battery draining, as long as the savings is there.
That is correct. So when I know that I might lose the grid that percentage is always higher

Hi there, I have a Deye 8KW inverter, with solar panels. how do I make inverter to only pull from solar panels and not grid?
It will always pull a little from the grid
Hey man, enable "Time of Use" and unselect all the options for "Grid Charge". If you unselect "Time of Use", it will always Grid Charge to 100% capacity, so enable it and just unselect all the Grid Charge options. This will cause the batteries to drop to your discharge threshold, so be careful. Lastly, set your preferred operating setting to "battery first", not "load first".
Why do we set it to Batt First ?

Nice tutorial! Good evening. I just bought DEYE 5KW Hybrid inverter my question is as per manual / schematic the grid and load should be separate connections. Is it the grid connection is only the input side and the output is the load? If I am going to connect External ATS is it necessary? Thank you.
Good day Michael, welcome to the channel. The input is the grid and the output is the load. There are two inputs. Gen and Grid. No need for an external ATS, the inverter does the transfer automatically between grid and UPS. Good luck with your new inverter
@@drsolar thank you for your reply.
good day Micheal and Dr.

It is not breaking the rules. Rules govern grid use. Battery will provide back up power always

As bypass , is it possible?
Please give me your help about this
Yes. It will see it as the grid and would charge and when the batteries are full will bypass. When you switch off the generator then UPS mode kicks in. Use the grid input

I have a trouble in entering to the program of felicity hybrid inverter 5kw joining to a lithium battery felicity 10kw.
When I press Enter key for 3 seconds, the inverter does not respond and I can not enter the program page.
Is there any help can you give me please ?

Hello Dr, I 8kva deye inverters, two parallely connected. Anytime the solar goes off, grid kicks in to the load. I want the battery to kick in instead. What do I do please?
What if 12pm to 3pm grid charge is enabled at 30% in time of use. Will batt charge from Solar(PV) if excess is available or it will drop down to 30% and charge from grid only?
Excess PV will charge the batteries
I have a grid tied inverter (not hybrid) with older panels. Due to regulations I cannot do much changes to this system. However I want my new deye 12kw 3phase hybrid, to be able to charge it's batteries from the existing panels/inverter, as well as charge the batteries from grid when/if necessary. How would I go about doing that? The deye will be set to zero export, as I am not allowed to sell more than the old panels/inverter can produce. I plan on adding new panels to the deye, so essentially i will have two systems connected. With only one of them exporting to grid
Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't know the electrical regs where you live so take my advise with caution. The grid tied goes into the Deye Gen port and then the grid goes into your Deye AC in Port
@@drsolar thank you so much for replying so quickly. I'm aware of the difference in location, I'm in Denmark 230V 50hz grid
My main issue is that I want the old grid tied inverter to still have the opportunity to sell to the grid, when the deye is not calling for power to either the house or batteries. At the same time i want the deye to be fed by the grid, when the old inverter /panels isn't producing.
@@GrummeGumba the Deye can sell back to the grid. But easiest way to connect a grid tied is through the Gen port
Sir, does it possible to connect in series 2 different brand of pv panel, my inverter has only 1 string, 3 x 460w JA and 3 x 500w Trina. Ty very much
if the voltages are close you can. The lower will pull down the higher. If the voltage of the panels are similar you can do that.
Thank you so much sir for reply and more power

How many panels do you have and are they in parallel? Is that the pv1 and pv2?
Hello Tyrone thank you for watching and commenting. I do have pv 1 and 2. On one string I have 9 x 400 watts and 10 x 380 on the 2nd. I hope this answers you.
Hi
I also have deye inverter
But why does it still be pull from the grid
If it producing enough energy via solar
It is a quirk of the Deye inverter
You tested DEYE and LUXPOWER who is better?
A matter of preference
Sir when my hybrid deye inverter is connected to grid at daytime, even at Zero Export to Load setting why there is still a 1.2 Amps on my ammeter reading at grid side?
Good day from Lagos. I am happy to see you on the channel. I am good but not that good. I will ask Deye for an answer and get back to you

Very helpful. Thanks.
You are most welcome.
Hi Sir I installed 12kv deye inverter two of them I connected them parallel before it was charging the batteries using solar panels but out of the sudden it is no longer charging. How can I do it to charge my batteries again?

Question can the Deye 8kW inverter start in its normal mode to inverter with DC power from panels and battery only i.e. no grid present at all?
Thank you for watching and commenting. The answer is yes. That is how I ran it. No grid, just pv and batteries
Thanks much for your response and for the clarification I appreciate it a lot.

Good Night I have another question.
What if I have a parallel and system that’s two Deye inverters cascaded in parallel B-Parallel B but when one is buying from the grid the other is selling hence, the Slave is not mimicking the Master. How can I fix this?
What is the minimum start voltage for this 5kva invertor?
Thank you for watching and commenting. This time I will tell you to read the manual. It has startup and what the suggest for best efficiency.
Mr I've installed my Deye inverter but I'm failing to get the floating settings
I did all the Battery setting when I scroll down it stops on
lithium mode

Restart
It doesn't go on the next page for floating, absorbtion

What could be the problem
Shutdown
You can set float. What type of battery are you using?
I'm using hubble lithium battery
@@charlesmadongo2047 I also dont see float etc with my hubble battery, i think those are automatically configured when the inverter talks to the battery bms

First to comment, can I use this with a 14s lipo system?
You are indeed the first? Did you see that I had 2 AC and my air fryer on? Yes you can. You can set your low battery cut off and the voltage at which you cut off charge. My current battery is a 14 or 15S and it works fine
can you disable sell back to the grid.
Yes you can and we do. We are not able to sell back to the grid in our market

do you need a battery installed to run off grid?
Simple answer is yes. Thank you for watching and commenting. Please subscribe
@@drsolar thank you for response. How can i get it to run off grid? the solar panels do not produce any amps without the live grid connected. I have battery setup and it wont charge without grid either. thank you
@@davehoss1510 then your settings are wrong or the inverter is faulty. The panels should charge without the grid
What battery you have what is the brand ?
It is made by Dyness. It is a LIFEPO4 battery
it won't charge my battery (lithium) from grid although i set priority to grid charging to 100%.
Sometimes it charges after a time lapse of grid time , and stops after suddenly from grid charging.
Whats the problem?
Battery mode is on lithium
Check the settings.
If you have 2 of 100ah Lithium batteries connected in parallel what will be your charging and discharge parameters
thank you for watching and commenting. What does it say on the side of the battery? Use the details that is provided to set this.
your inverter will see it as 1 large battery so for example if you have 2 50ah batteries it will equals to 100ah and discharge or charge parameter of lithium batteries are 50% so you should set them to 50
My inveter trips on over current every time the grid is down. I only have passive load no inductive loads
Which inverter do you have?
Hi, if you put 65% from 1am to 5am and tick on grid charge, will it charge max upto 65%? Or will it go upto 100% charge?
It will charge when it gets to 65% back up to 100%
It will charge with the grid up to 65%, then if there is surplus solar, it will charge up to 100% with solar.
Hi there, I have done all the steps that you said we should take but the inverter is still pulling from the grid and the grid icon is still green. How do I set it that the grid is 0 and the icon is orange?
You and I have resolved this I hope. How is the system doing now?
Just cut the grid breaker off
Where's the best place to purchase one ?
