    No point thinking your heating the glow plugs like the old 20-30year method, Saab only heat glow plugs on cranking when fuel go's in, It will EML even if one plug is down.

    My tip is to check the cableconnection on the positive battericlamp, the cable tend to loose inside the clamp.Its a standard errorthing that causes people to switch both battteries, alternator on startmotor totally unnecesary.

      @@davidgoddard5532 I ended up putting a switch on the temp sensor, turns it on turns it off, if it wouldn't start flick the switch (turns water temp sensor off) car then goes to a default and turns the glow plugs on full and car would fire every time, I did this for a year after trying to fix it and spending way too much. It's now sold thankfuly, as it turns out a previous owner had swapped the engine, from a 16v 150bhp to the 8v 120bhp and the car just was throwing problem after problem at me, a true lemon, not the cars fault but a ripoff merchant I bought it from. Now have an audi A5 petrol and couldn't be happier with it.

      @@hereward1971 That sounds like friend’s 9-3 tdi! He prides himself into being able to solve anything so bought his 07 convertible knowing it had a starting problem. That was after he found the fuel filter was leaking and the moisture sensor was missing. He was sure a new filter would fix drain back but it didn’t! So he’s doing the rounds on all the usual things to make avail. New battery now but has found something is draining that when it’s supposed to be asleep. He’s fitting a recon starter today! I told him to double up on the lead from the starter to the battery and battery to earth as I’ve seen that work. Someone else has changed the key switch as that can get wet if liquid from the cup holder gives it a soak! He still hasn’t replaced the water sensor on the fuel filter but removing it hasn’t stopped the battery drain problem. Good job he only paid £800 for it!! I drove it back from Maidstone to Glos and it went like a train but we didn’t switch her off when refuelling or when we stopped at the services!!! There doesn’t seem to be one thing does there?! I’ll tell him to check the water temp sensor on his plug in code thingy. 😂

    Something is not right. I have a Saab 9-3 TTiD 4 -12 and it starts right up after the first glow. This during periods of -25 C. I usually use my electronic Ctek heater and charger, but this cant be done by my cabin. (500 meter extension cord needed.)
    So, check your glow plugs, the battery status and also fuel filter, pump and injectors.

      I am thinking about getting a 1.9 TTiD, are they good cars? Like acceleration, fuel economy, and also, do you ever have problems starting it? Because I have heard both that they are awful and that they are very good at cold starts

      @@mattssonfelix3882 In my opinion, after moving from the TTiD4 to a Volvo D4 2021, I must say that the TTID4 was a very pleasant experiance. Smooth, but most importantly, very fuel effiecent. I mean, very fuel efficient. I often got away with 0,4-0,5L/10km which is very good in my opinion. The Volvo I have today is often closer to 0,7 when on mixed roads. City driving, around 1.0-1,2L/10km and on the Highway 0,8/10km.
      My SAAB 9-3 was simply great. I miss its engine and driveability.

    the problem is with the cable connection to body car with the screw cause it becomes very dirty and rust than well have bad connection !! ... you just need to clean it and make good connection with( negative cable to body ..just look to the small screw connection with body ?) and the positive connection also ..

      The starter is ok, as it is turning and cranking the engine. Could be clogged injectors or a worn cam shaft. But I suspect by the sound of the engine, that it is almost at the end of its life. Sad, because it is not uncommon for these to last 200k miles or more. But they need care and attention, like anything. If you abuse a car, it will die prematurely.

      Nice conclusion made from one UA-cam-video. :)
      Something is not right with this poor vehicle in the clip above. I usually start my TTiD4 in -25 degrees C, and under. Usually preheating it using a electric heater. But, by my Cabin where there is 500 meters to the closest outlet -Some coldstarts are made. Always without any issue.
      I keep my battery well charged by maintenance charging it a couple of times per year and such. No issues what so ever.

    • @hermanmunster3358
      @hermanmunster3358 5 років тому

      No, they're not. Mine starts fine in winter if the battery is good. And sounds nothing like this one. But I take care of it, and service it regularly. And in 4 years, it has NEVER let me down. It does need a new turbo now though, which I'm gonna do over the next few weeks. Along with another full service.
