The original tweet was kind of unprofessional but "ok", however the way they responded to the mildest criticism of "this isn't very professional" is abhorrent. The deliberately dishonest framing is awful as well -- they're banning people who align with them in their personal life.
Hopefully the foundation responds tomorrow and at least dismisses the one mod who is banning everyone. Otherwise, it's the death of the engine for any serious project. No business or developer wants to use a vendor that protects this level of unprofessional behavior.

I agree, I get the idea that they wanted to see games made by queer people but not only they worded it wrongly but they went absolutely bonkers at the slightest criticism, and instead of regrouping they went all out completely.
I'm just hoping that they had these 3 days to think clearly about their response, and that that response involves at least those two community managers stepping down and Godot coming out with something that states the message that his creator tweeted.

GIT has to my knowledge not changed "master" to "main" which is why GitHub and GitLab have an extra step in their how to setup explaining how to change the default branch name to "main"

I've been to a Godot meetup yesterday. One of the lecturers in his slide had like "do you think Godot should be woke" expecting cheers as he is known as queer advocate. No one cheered. I was shocked from his slide as I know him as an intelligent person and this time many Unity devs came (including myself) and it pretty much made us not want to convert. It was a single slide, it wasn't close to the stuff the community manager said but he did a deservice to himself and the local Godot community.
It was still an excellent and wholesome meetup 😊

I never got into Godot because I saw this all coming. If you have already put 3+ years dev work into a project using Godot that is a hard decision, but if you are starting out... rolling your own engine has some hurtles, but having full control over your codebase does mean you are not left with nothing if a 3rd party decides to nuke everything.
You can still use Godot, it's licensed by the MIT license. It just might not be worth the time to contribute to it until the personnel is purged out. It has a large enough base that a fork will coming soon if things aren't managed by Godot properly.

But you already have full control over Godot's codebase. Godot is 100% free and open source, you can do whatever you wish with whatever part of the source code. A couple of mental patients on leave don't change that.

In the crypto world, I thought the btc forks would all die, but Litecoin and bitcoin cash are still going strong.
Lots of forks succeed. If the fork solves a genuine problem, they will find support. Another example is forjeo, the fork of Gitea. Forjeo is not more popular than Gitea, but it is popular, because people wanted a copy left licencing scheme, it solves a problem and so people use it.
Forks of Godot in this case will likely find support, whether it will become more popular is unknown, but to paraphrase another commenter, "If an open source project kills support, it kills itself". Godot cannot survive if it stops people from filling issues and making commits, people who sink these ships are not the best sailors.
It may be possible that Godot management may be afraid of there moderators.

It's amazing to me how much money companies are losing for embracing political ideologies in their games or just flat out make bad games. Ubisoft, for example, has lost most of their stock in the last few years. Concord has also cost Sony more than $400 million. Diablo 4 is a joke compared to the previous games. In fact, everything Blizzard has been doing in recent years is a joke. I fully expect Godot to double down on this in their official statement and just keep shooting their feet.
Worst part is that they're trying to force it on other countries, like your Sony example. Sony is just the tip of the iceberg of Japanese companies succumbing to that western pressure. It's happening in their whole entertainment industry who export to the "global market", not just video games. I just DON'T get it. What is wrong with the people at the top who encourage this? What is their end goal? Only people who win is other competing countries like China who'd GLADLY take advantage of all the mistakes we're doing.

That's it I'm migrating all my projects to C/C++ using SDKs, they never become too mainstream and popular to be targeted by extremist political activists.
Godot was cool. Hope someday maybe someone with the required knowledge saves it by forking it.

yes you're not restricted from downloading the repo, the leadership and rules of the root project is up to them, what's not up to them is how a forked project decides to run their leadership and rules.

No. The MIT license only covers the software and is akin to a BSD license. It was made long before anyone thought of having stipulations on what was done outside of the source code itself.

Personally won't be swapping, I may swap to a fork of godot if they actually inject this bs into the engine enough but unity lost my trust and it's too late.

Yeah, but the issue is the left the retroactivity loophole in their licensing open, and they've already betrayed public trust multiple times. They're just going to wait until you're wrapped up in their game engine again and try it once more.
I was recently considering switching to Godot, I ultimately didn't because it lacks nice and default C++ integration instead forcing their own scripting language, but in my research, I noticed a few hints of the wokeness mindvirus in the overall project... Disappointing to have my suspicions confirmed.

That community manager messed up big time. Steam has, every now and again, LGBTQ+ game events and nobody throws a fit.

I can name exactly TWO games made in Godot that have any level of public recognition at all, Cruelty Squad and Brotato. This engine is dying before it's even began to achieve any level of real success.

Quantitatively: Bryan Lunduke has 70k subscribers. Even if every single one of their subscribers was an godot user. Who quits using godot. That would still leave godot with over 30,000 users. If we only go off of sub counts as a metric.

Left Unity around 8 years ago when it became obvious to me that the company fundamentally couldn't care less about devs or gamers.
Left Godot early 2022 when it became clear to me that this is exactly where the project was going.
Now I am a - No Engine game dev and having more fun than ever and zero f'ing reason to let these people handcuff me to their political agenda.
I wish devs would grow a spine and leave these engines. As long as devs complain but never leave, the other engines have no reason to behave any different.

@@MikAlexander Mainly Raylib. I have been using it for fun for many years and the truth is, that it really is more fun and rewarding than any engine. I am also developing my own lib/engine, but for now that is only for the fun and experience.
I actually believe that most devs would benefit from leaving the engines. It would open them up to much more creative expression and detailed implementation, leading to games that truly reflect the dev instead of the engine they happen to use.

Core, no problem at all. I am reading other comments asking this same question, with replies saying that it's all over the Discord server. But since I have never seen it in any interaction with Mint's staff in HexChat when I have looked for help with issues, then I figure that is just the Universal fact of all of Discord being trash.

Your concern about the "bad ending" didn't seem to take into account about the consequences of the communication. Let's say the team members who abused the CoC get officially removed. That means everything has to be prepared for a smooth transition from what just happened to the state of a CoC-abiding team. If the level of access and influence of the people who misbehaved goes deep enough, you can see why things have to be done carefully before any communication goes out. Because with the kind of comments those people put out, you can bet your pixels that they would make a big mess in the wake of their enforced departure. That's why I think that we can expect both kinds of communication - good and bad.

At least nobody needs Godot anyways. It's a barely serviceable engine with a very compact feature set. There are better alternatives out there with much better features and support then Godot will probably ever have. The games released with Godot are just some mobile style games which are not notable at all.
Could you give a 'best of' of these alternatives?
Theres a lot of good games made with godot lol, most just dont broadcast what engine they use. Thats actually just a silly criticism
