I found out that she was sandwiched between two vehicles and that the one behind her was a pickup truck that shoved her into the back of the vehicle in front of her. Thankfully she is not hurt. So now I must take that lesson and the one from Pat and make them make a difference. 😊
They would often perform this song off-mic at their concerts. They would stand at the edge of the stage and sing their hearts out. And you could hear every word from every corner of the concert hall, the soft and gentle parts, and (of course) the belting parts. Always a magical experience to be in the audience for that (which I was).
Going back to the early days for this one, Barry! Yes, it's an original, written by Avi and Kevin. In the shots where the "snow" is "falling upwards", the group members taught themselves to lip synch the lyrics backwards so the shots would match. One of their best originals that I don't think you've reacted to yet is Sing. Very catchy song and fun video, full of surprise celebrity fan cameos.
To hear Kevin in this arrangement as another vocalist is nice. Avi and Mitch singing highs and lows together is gorgeous. The whole thing is chef 💋. Side note, I want Barry's voice as a ring tone.
This is definitely one of their most 'different' songs; no regular 'beat' to the melody and therefore, with it, no beatboxing. That makes it damn hard to keep time, even with actual musical instruments, so to do it with just their voices shows just how insanely in sync they are with each other. And I reckon they could actually fix your plumbing as well; they'd just sing to your faulty pipework and it would just go "Ah, go on then, you sound lovely, so we'll behave from now on."
A hauntingly beautiful song, Barry. The underlying bass and harmonies, the slowness of each word stilling time, defining the meaning of the song, creating an ache that deepens with each note. Again, very beautiful song. Thanks for asking us to listen again.

I heard a line in a Hank Williams song "Mister can you make folks feel what you feel inside?" Well, Pentatonix, mission accomplished! I felt all the feels with this song. The hairs on my arms and neck were bristling, tears in my eyes, breathless at times, just so gorgeous. Their harmonies are unmatched, so soft and lyrical in this piece. This song tears at my heart. "Break my shackles to set me free." The dissonance at 4:34 that resolves at 4:39 emphasizes the breaking shackles and being set free. I love the five part harmony in this song. Glad Kevin gets to sing occasionally - he has such a lovely, pure tone.

After the huge dinner I made for St. Patrick's Day, I have been filling up my "tank" with enough fuel ⛽️ to keep my batteries charged for a good long time! I told Anne that I made enough food to feed a small army. I think that statement was a bit conservative. 🤔 I probably should have said at least two or three. 😃

Grub is important… my finger was about to hit a siren when you mentioned an army because that means men in uniform and that’s not allowed but then you corrected yourself but I’m still on guard about these two or three people, make sure they’re not "lookers" (aka attractive 🤪)

I can grow a beard very quickly, I’m a hairy man. But do you mean when I have my crazy look? The very long beard and hair tied up? I prefer to look bad in my videos so I don’t feel it’s me. So I use talcum powder in my beard to fluff it up and put my hair up to look silly. I’m not comfortable being on UA-cam so I’d rather not look like myself. If you mean when my beard is just stubble and then a little bit longer well that’s just what I look like that day. When I was singing on stage, I’d always be cleanly shaven and more times than not in a suit and tie. But in my first few videos I tried look bedraggled and even put stuff on my clothes to look unkempt. I remember I once did a community post with both sides of my UA-cam personality represented by two different photos side by side and asked which one they prefer. One of the comments was “is this the same person in both pictures?” Or something to that effect.

They’re so in synch that even their individual vibrato doesn’t compete, it strengthens the bubble of sound..no one ever goes outside the bubble, like a big, warm bath..
From what I've read, Kevin had the concept for the beginning, and then Avi pretty much wrote the rest. It does indeed sound like Avi writing, both music and lyrics. And apparently Ben Bram worked on the final arrangement.
It is in fact an original, written by Kevin and Avi. And while the video is simple, creating it was anything but. To get the effect of the snow falling upwards, they lip synced the segment BACKWARDS and then put the video in reverse in editing.

There are few songs where we get 5 part harmony but this is one of my favorites. If I’m right, Kevin & Avi wrote the song. I think that’s why the base is so strong. I love Mitch here. Even though you can hear the others, Mitch is so beautiful here. The breaking down the gates of heaven part is so strong it almost takes my breath away. Interesting comparison to Clannad. I listened again & can hear what you meant. Another great reaction Barry. Another original is Sing it will pick up anyone dragging thru the day. Then Come Along. ☮️💟😷

YES! You've solved a mystery I've been kicking around since I first heard this song years ago. The warmth and other-earthliness was immediately apparent to me, but there was a quality of the music that I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It felt like a combination of lullaby from hundreds of years ago, and that beautiful call of a penny whistle played in the near distance. CELTIC. You finally named that mystery element of this piece for me. A beautiful blanket of sound with gorgeous Celtic thread woven throughout.

Welcome back! You've been missed! As others have said, yes, it is an original by Avi, Kevin and Ben but in my humble opinion, the majority of the Celtic feel came from Avi, who's love of the ancient magic of the Celts ( and castles and dragons and bass notes and barbeque) had a large influence...although they (and I mean all of the creative force of Pentatonix) love all types of music, the main ballad/romance influence of the group at that time was Avi supported of course, by all the gifted members which includes Ben Bram.
I can't even tell you how many times I have listened to this song. Possibly more than every other PTX song combined? When I say it's my favorite, I mean it. It's exquisite.

Avi and Kevin apparently wrote the bulk of it but they are all listed as having a part in writing the song. It’s in my top 5. I love the discord and close harmonies. Plus the words are so poetic and lovely. I never get tired of hearing it. Barry, here are some others from PTX that I’d love to see you review: Be my Eyes/Sing/Carol of the Bells/Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. But I’d LOVE it if you’d listen to three of Mitches covers. I’m pretty sure he does all the background voices in these songs, and he sounds AMAZING in all three: 1) Find You 2) Graveyard and 3) Your power by Billie Eilish (Mitch played the piano, wrote the synth parts arranged the song and produced it). They are all gorgeous, of course, but Mitch’s voice is so mind-bendingly beautiful, it takes my breath away every time. Please, please review them! You won’t be sorry, I promise!

Mitch’s tone is so sweet and more angelic than usual, and that’s saying something. Everyone was phenomenal. But mitch’s voice made me want to cry.
There is by far more use of dissonance in this song than in any of their other songs. So haunting and beautiful.

I missed you, Barry! This is a favorite of mine. I've listened to it over a hundred times but when they hit the 2 chords on "free" the tears start flowing. This and their Amazing Grace will be played when my ashes are spread in the Great Smoky Mtns in Tennessee.

From what I've read, Kevin had the concept for the beginning, and then Avi pretty much wrote the rest. It does indeed sound like Avi writing, both music and lyrics. And apparently Ben Bram worked on the final arrangement.

It is in fact an original, written by Kevin and Avi. And while the video is simple, creating it was anything but. To get the effect of the snow falling upwards, they lip synced the segment BACKWARDS and then put the video in reverse in editing.
This is one of my favorites of PTX. Thank you for reviewing it. I have followed them since their debut on The Sing-Off. They are simply amazing!

There are few songs where we get 5 part harmony but this is one of my favorites. If I’m right, Kevin & Avi wrote the song. I think that’s why the base is so strong. I love Mitch here. Even though you can hear the others, Mitch is so beautiful here. The breaking down the gates of heaven part is so strong it almost takes my breath away. Interesting comparison to Clannad. I listened again & can hear what you meant. Another great reaction Barry. Another original is Sing it will pick up anyone dragging thru the day. Then Come Along. ☮️💟😷

YES! You've solved a mystery I've been kicking around since I first heard this song years ago. The warmth and other-earthliness was immediately apparent to me, but there was a quality of the music that I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It felt like a combination of lullaby from hundreds of years ago, and that beautiful call of a penny whistle played in the near distance. CELTIC. You finally named that mystery element of this piece for me. A beautiful blanket of sound with gorgeous Celtic thread woven throughout.

Welcome back! You've been missed! As others have said, yes, it is an original by Avi, Kevin and Ben but in my humble opinion, the majority of the Celtic feel came from Avi, who's love of the ancient magic of the Celts ( and castles and dragons and bass notes and barbeque) had a large influence...although they (and I mean all of the creative force of Pentatonix) love all types of music, the main ballad/romance influence of the group at that time was Avi supported of course, by all the gifted members which includes Ben Bram.
I can't even tell you how many times I have listened to this song. Possibly more than every other PTX song combined? When I say it's my favorite, I mean it. It's exquisite.

Avi and Kevin apparently wrote the bulk of it but they are all listed as having a part in writing the song. It’s in my top 5. I love the discord and close harmonies. Plus the words are so poetic and lovely. I never get tired of hearing it.
Barry, here are some others from PTX that I’d love to see you review: Be my Eyes/Sing/Carol of the Bells/Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. But I’d LOVE it if you’d listen to three of Mitches covers. I’m pretty sure he does all the background voices in these songs, and he sounds AMAZING in all three: 1) Find You
2) Graveyard and 3) Your power by Billie Eilish (Mitch played the piano, wrote the synth parts arranged the song and produced it).
