Trying to stay positive... long story short, I'm 2 strokes, and heart failure deep at almost 37, denied disability so I said okay ill go out an get it, to the best of my ability.. Well I had 2 different reoccurring customers back out of jobs we were really counting on completing. One was the night before we were suppose to start, the other was literally as we were pulling tools out to begin.. havent had a singke job since then.. I know its holiday season or "slow season" some would say and I havent even been in business a full year yet.. but DAM is it discouraging!!! LESSON LEARNED an now Im Studying up on things I need to know, an making a plan to KILL IT THIS COMING YEAR!! Much Love to all my landscape/lawncare bretherin!! Edit: havent got the eviction notice yet but pretty dam close.. still trying to stay positive, work hard and pray 🙏🏼 Thanks Keith
I love your vulnerability Keith and your genuine honesty. You’re willing to tell the nightmare stories. The stories where you didn’t use good judgment and where you felt like an idiot. But dude look at the man you are today because of all that. I’ve been watching your videos for many years. You have the balls and the courage to come on here and be human and honest. It is so mind blowing and relieving to see someone who is open and willing to talk about their mistakes and what they’ve learned. Your humility is contagious. God bless you sir love you even though I’ve never met you. Your friend from Texas
Hey Keith, it's crazy how many companies in our area us cheap materials and bad practices, bottom of the barrel (ie: thin non commercial weed mat, flimsy metal edging between the lawn and landscape, garbage sprinkler heads, sprinkler systems with pvc exposed to the elements, over stuffing landscape with plants, etc.). Love your videos, keep them coming.
I find that weed fabric isn’t that effective any way. Where I work weed seeds will be carried by the wind and land in between rocks and grow right through the weed fabric!
The crazy think is that when you're there so busy making negative numbers you might think that if you can only hire more help to get more of this cheap jobs done every thing will be better
Minute 6.15, you sharing your story I can see you reliving the moment and the past anxiety coming back. I'm glad your doing better and are successful. This buisiness is very tough!
I did a huge rain garden with electronic irrigation I let them pay for materials soil ammendment and plants I charged by hour man bc it was so many unforseen obstacles.
Just a Canon EOS R6-ii with a Sigms Art 18-35 1.8 lens at 4k 16:9 light ipb. Very standard with a RODE video mic pro plus. The reason it looks good is because the lens aperture is wide open and I have 3 point Rembrandt lighting on me with the background independently lighted.
So what would you recommend for a newish guy, 2 years into business, to charge for something like that? Just ask for the hourly rate? And work out whatever needed for any hauling fees?
I’m 24 now but I started my landscape business at 18. Whenever a client wanted a big job done I always did it in steps because I was new to the game and wanted to make sure I didn’t undercharge. So my recommendation is to do it in steps and basically make one big job into 3-4 smaller jobs then overtime you have an idea how long it will take you to do those steps so you can quote it in one big job
Never! Never! Work on hourly rate unless it’s impossible to quote a price. And if so.. give a range and an Hourly rate no less than $80- + per man hour.

Amazing content. Thank you for the stories. These are real torments that a professional goes through. If you care about your work it is a fight.

Keith it would be an awesome video to revisit this house for a walkthrough. The og’s know who this customer is 🤣
Lolol
If I ever did a UA-cam video, it would be telling everyone… If you do quality work in your customers like you raise your bloody prices!!!
Wow.
I wish you would have told someone like a mentor about what was going on, and they told you to pack up your tools and leave.
I got jobbered during that story
what did you use to film this video? the quality is very good

You could actually get results like this with your smartphone if you know what to do.
