  • The Women Against Feminism campaign has exploded in recent weeks. Many feminists have responded by calling these women ignorant. They claim that they aren't aware of the definition of feminism. Is this true? Here's my opinion.

    One of my biggest quandaries concerning feminism is that if I tried to offer my opinion on why certain woman behave in certain ways or are treated by society in certain ways, then I'd be accused of "Mansplaining," and that's bad. Yet feminists are allowed to constantly dictate to men how society treats us and why we act the way we do?

      I've always found it funny how Feminists claim men should not tell women how to act and what to be like to be accepted but they find it totally fine to tell men how to act and what to be to be accepted by women. Feminists claim to want equality but place women on this pedestal where they are pretty much untouchable, using arguments such as "Always respect women, a woman gave birth to you." Yes, and that same woman also can abuse you and traumatize you like a man could. Or when referring to abortion and being pro-choice the way Feminists speak of the topic is as if women are some supreme beings-almost like a God-that could create or destroy you, and if they wanted to could flush their baby out of their womb if they felt like it just because it grows inside them. I have nothing against abortion but there's definitely alot of arrogance and feelings of entitlement when this topic is touched upon.

      Or simply describes what they want you to believe it was/is. Yet feminism actually came at the end of all the real women's liberation. By the time feminism was even invented, women had already accomplished everything feminism states to be about in the Suffragette and Women's Liberation movements. Feminism has -always- been a sham, but with each new 'wave' of it, it becomes increasingly more destructive, nonsensical and unstable.

      XxAleenazxX "Group mentality is fucking stupid and primitive. If you can do something and have the skills for it, do it. Gender, race, class and so on shouldn't hold a person back. Judge people based on their individual merit, not what group or category they belong to."
      The irony here is that feminism is the exact opposite of this.

    • @bobshenix

      XxAleenazxX Feminists want to take merit out of it and institute arbitrary quotas and increase female representation just for the sake of having more women. Nobody is stopping women from trying their hand at whatever career they want... they can study whatever major they want in college. In fact women make up 60% of university enrollment. Notice you don't see men bitching and complaining about sexism, now do we??

      Julie Borowski , I am saddened that you are getting patted on the back for such ignorance that you are spewing. Your basic argument is "I do not agree with feminism because a few feminists say stupid things." Is it most feminists saying these things you disagree with? Is it a plurality of feminists? I am sure you have no idea. You just watch the feminists that get the most attention for saying controversial things and you hopelessly mangle their messages to mean something totally different from what it is. Then you assume that is what feminists are. However, you're free to keep spreading your stupidity. Good luck in your endeavors to create more mindless troglodytes.

    • @CourtneyHaynes
      @CourtneyHaynes 9 років тому +2

      Hamish James , I am a male, silly. Yes, society has put women before men when it comes to safety, but not when it comes to freedom and respect. This is a common poor debating tactic from your side: you point to an area where women "have it better" and you think that means you've disproved feminism. No, the reason why men are "disposable" is because of societies in which THEY created which were based on "honor" and the belief that women were weak and inferior. Lots of the "problems" that men have are the natural outgrowth of patriarchal tenants to begin with.

    • @geneanthony3421
      @geneanthony3421 9 років тому +8

      ***** women are given their value at birth due to their high reproductive value to society. If 95% of women died it could be crippling to a society because the other 5% can only have a few kids in their lifetime. Since one man can have unlimited children throughout their lifetime a man's reproductive value to society is very low and they have to prove their value to society through their ability to be useful to it otherwise they can be perceived as a burden or at least have no value to society. Women are protected because throughout history it was the only way society could survive when life was truly tough.

    • @CourtneyHaynes
      @CourtneyHaynes 9 років тому +1

      Gene Anthony , again, you are talking about one aspect in which women are valued more. What feminism wants is for women to be treated equally in all facets of life. And women simply are not treated equally even in America. Do you deny this simply fact?

      Yeah history, exactly, women WERE marginalised previously in western cultures but the whole point of a revolution is resolution! The fact that women are still being taught about this imaginary patriarchy and current day oppression against women is an insult and a disgrace to the millennia of women throughout history who were genuinely marginalised and ostracised. You could even argue that today in the western and even other parts of the world is probably the best time to be a woman! Ever!

    My father sent me off to college against my wishes. He was a cop so I didn't argue. He even picked my major as education because he said I would have job security and great benefits. Fabulous. HAving a 'career' I didn't even care for was fine because it was my turn to work while my husband went to college. I supported him 100%. We waited 9 years to have a child. So now not only do I have to go to work I also have the housework, cooking, and cleaning to do in my off hours. Even on weekends. By the time our child turned 6 I began to unravel from the stress and my health suffered. I would have MUCH rather have stayed at home happy, productive, and secure without a ruthless string of boss after boss after boss I could NEVER please. After a nervous breakdown, I am happy and home doing all the cooking, cleaning, and home-improvement projects I struggled to do before! I HATE feminism. I hate how it almost destroyed my life. I used to associate myself with Feminism. I NEVER "was a feminist" but I was sympathetic to the cause and helped forward many of their agendas. Recently however, I've been looking at the issues differently (with the help of many of you) and after doing a lot of research into the history of women and men, and the science behind our behaviors - especially sexually, and looked at the actual statistics feminists try to propagate, I realized that I had been mislead. I fell for the Feminist trap.
    Sure equality for men and women is good, very few sane people will deny that, it's what we all want, HOWEVER the ideology of Feminism is either off-mark, unnecessary or counter-productive and hypocritical.... not to mention many times lacking in merit.
    Also, why is it that nowadays "Feminine" is positive and "Masculine" is negative? I grew up as a young boy in the 90's where masculine tendencies of boys was repressed and scrutinized, as if they were defective.... that is such BULLSHIT and ironically it's sexist of Feminists to argue this!
    I'm so glad I got off the Feminist bandwagon before I put my name and face on TV or on the internet and would embarrass myself with this nonsense.
    FUCK FEMINISM.

      The Millenial Generation has been referred to by many as "The Feminine Generation"
      The Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers were very masculine in their characteristics, Millennials are not.
      How many times were you taught, "Violence solves nothing?" - that's feminine
      How many times were you taught, "It takes two people to start a fight?" - that's feminine.
      How many times were you taught that girls "like sensitivity" in men? - that's feminine.
      How many times were you taught, "EVERYBODY IS A WINNER!"? - That's feminine.
      How many times were you taught that "effort trumps results?" - that's feminine
      How many times have you been caught in Political Correctness? - PC is Feminine
      How many schools have banned "contact sports/games" for children such as tag, red rover red rover etc. etc. A LOT that's how many. As a kid in elementary school I saw school after school in California and Oregon ban those things because they weren't girl friendly and taught boys "too much aggression and masculinity." which is bullshit. WOMEN were behind all of those decisions.
      I'm a former Marine. The military while I was in was falling apart because it was being made women-friendly which is contrary to warrior ethos and tradition where hyper-masculinity is paramount.
      Need I continue?
      The values of the younger generations, and those that are being purported in schools, in government and perhaps even some churches are feminine values.
      Women have been the primary benefactors of affirmative action and have benefited from quite a lot over the last four decades. They having been the majority at almost all coed schools for close to FIVE decades now.... they have had a lot more influence over society in that time frame than they like to admit.
      That's my point. If you were born before 1980's or so then a lot of this probably doesn't apply to you, and you may have no idea what I'm talking about... and THAT is even more my point.

      It's worse than you think. That old adage "boys will be boys" is fundamentally true at the basic biological level.
      Boys and girls think and react differently because of basic biology. One way isn't better than the other, they are just different. If you start telling boys at a young age that feminine stuff is good and masculine stuff is bad, that will screw them up big time because it's counter to thier wiring. This is one reason boys go nutty and go on school shooting sprees. It's not the sole reason, but it's one factor. In school, masculinity is suppressed, in the media it is lauded. John Maclane wasn't a sensitive man of the 80's. The Terminator wasn't all "Let's be friends". If boys don't have a healthy masculine outlet, they repress then it just explodes out later.

      One thing I learned growing up was if the liberals ever get control, they'll destroy everything they touch and push everything immoral. National Organization for Woman was big in the 70's and my mother was against those mental cases. Here we are today, the percentage is almost nil but, they whine like babies screaming to be heard only to degrade women. Anyone sucked into these liberal movements get what they deserve. There isn't a person on this earth that wasn't born equal, it's the corruption that divides. Lucifer works hard at getting to the youth to corrupt them or murdering them before they comes out of the womb, another liberal movement. Thankfully there's woman today that are aware and pushing this BS aside.

      Scott Smith Exactly, women (feminists) create the war on women because it gets them sympathy & attention & it allows them to manipulate the masses. Men are naturally inclined to support women, & women know that (be it sub-consciously or otherwise).
      Hell, we even support them when they turn around & call us "evil oppressors" despite the heavy sacrifice of life & freedom men have made throughout history to support their families. Hint - Men have sacrificed a lot more for women then women have ever sacrificed for men. It's known as the disposable male vs child bearing female dynamic.
      & no, I'm not talking about me or think that I'm better because I'm a man, I've sacrificed fuck all for women. I'm talking about brave men who sacrificed everything for their families, & yet it's almost considered common knowledge that "men oppressed women" in historical times, which couldn't be further from the truth.
      Some thanks ladies, some thanks.

      Julie Borowski yeah, there is also a huge difference between the "feminism" taught in universities and the "feminism" presented to the public. when speaking to the public feminism = equality. however, when in an academic setting, famous feminists (Hillary Clinton) compare marriage to slavery and colonization while claiming that society benefits men at the expense of women.

      What's worse is when certain people think it's okay to use tragic incidents (such as mass shootings) to advocate for genocide of half the human race. I've actually seen that shit. "If we just get rid of men, we won't have this issue anymore" is my recollection of what they said a year or so ago on a friend's page (You know, a variation of the classic "if women ruled the world, there'd be no war or violence" line) and I responded with controlled outrage and pointed out how big of a lie "feminism isn't about hating men" was and how she just advocated for killing all men, which would be oh so horrible if the genders were reversed. I don't remember her saying anything else, but my goal wasn't to shock her into shutting up. It was to try to help her understand the reality of what she said. I think she got the message.

    Just because you have never experienced inequality as a result of your gender does not mean someone else hasn't either. It's like saying "well I've never had problem getting clean water, what's all the fuss about with access to clean water?" Sending a "positive message" by saying "women are not oppressed" does not erase reality.

      It is expected from every woman to be beautiful. That way, they have quite a lot of pressure on them. Then, they are educated to weakness. "I can't play football 'cos mummy says I can't ruin my new shoes". One who is educated to weakness is, per definition, oppressed, but will also be an oppressor through pettiness. I mean, I'm pretty sure that you know more petty women than men. Then, men are educated as the "ugly gender"- which until a certain age is a disadvantage, then, dismissal of beauty ideals means freedom.

      I thought the same. Just because SHE had a good life it doesn't mean we should ignore all those women who get degraded/objectified/abused/raped/killed just because they were BORN female. Feminism has a very good concept and everyone should support it - ESPECIALLY women for fuck's sake... or else it's like you say "ok I may be a woman and have an ok life, but fuck all the other slutty bitches. I'm special!". If you don't like it, just let it be. If you feel the NEED to create a group named "women against feminism" then you obviously try to fight feminism which is totally laughable since it makes you as bad as those "feminazis". Besides that, feminism just wants the problems of women to END, I don't see anything wrong with that. Also, as long as a woman is shamed for her clothing choices or having sex or being raped, feminism is still absolutely necessary. I mean for fuck's sake, when a boy has sex he gets high-fived but when a girl does it she is a slut?! Bitch please, it takes both for sex. The society itself makes the girl an object, a trophy for the boy who fucked her. Anyone who "can't see" how flawed that logic is, is simply getting benefit from the whole situation.

There just seems to be a huge difference IMO.
      I've always thought of the modern feminist movement as a way for the insecure crowd to rally behind a movement that puts people down for having enjoyable lives or lots of attention directed at them. It is therefore not at all surprising to me that these same feminists are deriding women for being supermodels or having fit or attractive bodies ("catering to men", the Norwegian mom post-pregnancy scandal, 'modelling', etc etc.)

    They should also look up the definition of misandry. Misandrists are NOT feminists. Sadly these two groups of people are often thought of as a whole. You read the definition yourself, feminism is equality. I didn't realize til watching this that a huge percentage of people don't claim to be feminist which is really sad to me. Man or woman, feminism is equality for all.
    Also, this just sounded kind of odd in my head, but just going by the definition of feminism, does that mean that women who still support equality between sexes are passive feminists? Think about it.

      What about those men who died in wars trying to protect their beloved wives? What about the very concept of chivalry, which would make people look down on a man if he didn't respect a lady? What about the fact that men were expected to work hard in order to take care of their wives and kids? As far as I'm concerned, during the Ancien Régime, when peasants had excruciatingly bad lives because they were constantly stepped on by the upper classes, women weren't the only ones that made up the working class (far from it). I have never seen a feminist trying to draw attention to some of the problems faced by men throughout History. You make it seem that women were the only ones who ever suffered in the past, when it reality men also did. By the way, the fact that some women have been "oppressed" throughout History and that there was an actual reason for feminism to exist in the past doesn't justify its existence nowadays, along with all the stupidity/prejudice it fosters. It just seems that people like you have been brainwashed by third-wave feminism into believing that it remains a very good thing to the point where you no longer dare to question it, nor do you take an effort to realize how shitty it really is. A toy may be great at first, but if you break it, it becomes useless. Same thing goes for feminism, a toy so shitty that it should have already been thrown out of the windom a long time ago in most Western democracies.

I also doubt that feminist women would take jobs like coal mining. Who are the loudest feminists now? The femen. They are the ones that get nake on the street and pees on public street, and vandalize Crucifixes. The Google says nothing about feminists should pee or run around public streets like crazies. But they are doing it. They they get suprised if other women says no to such behavior.
      Or please explain to me how peeing in public helps equality between sexes. How vandalizing religious symbols help equality? If a woman vandalizes a crucifix, it means she just hurting religious women's feelings.

      those are extreme examples. and daniel will be quick to point that out. but there are far less extreme examples, more subtle (or not so subtle) examples of feminism claiming to be working for equality but doing just the opposite. and based on my gut feeling alone, (i may be wrong) i feel like many of us will disagree with Daniel about those subtleties , which oddly enough, no longer defines daniel as a feminist, based on our interpretation of the dictionary definition, and his actual views. so what exactly is equality? since we all know what equality is, and we all claim to be for it? why are we arguing? hmmmmm... could it be that one of us has a totally skewed idea of what equality of the genders really means? (i think self proclaimed feminists have the skewed idea, and those who oppose modern western feminism have the correct idea)

      They didn't do it for attention, just someone seen them doing it. I don't find any news about women got arrested and got on a list for doing such thing. "Equality." Same about getting naked. Same about getting naked and running around at a public place. (That's femen member do.)

    It is amazing Julie, a huge chunk of your video was intended to get across the point that the "definition" of feminism is irrelevant to the discussion - I loved that look on your face in the quick pause moment after you read the definition. The feminist movement is made up of people - activists, authors, academics, and leaders. The thoughts and actions of these people are what feminism actually is in real life. And yet here in the comments section are several posts by feminists who seem to have completely missed the point. One even telling you that you ARE a feminist since you believe in equal rights, you got that Julie? You are a feminist, you don't get a say in whether or not you identify as one. Ethical Erica explains this quite clearly, and we know she is right because she is a feminist and therefore the best and most decent and most smartest person ever! Plus she's vegan, so even a way better person than most feminists - who are the best....well except for atheist feminists Erica is that too, which makes her even more mosts smartest - much more moistest - so that means vegan atheist feminists are the very most bestest. Got it?

    I agree with all of this. Telling someone to look up the meaning of feminism is like telling someone to look up the definition of bitch. It's a female dog, but I'm pretty sure when someone calls a chick that, they don't mean female dog. Like the stupidity blows me away...
    It irks me especially when people act like if you're against feminism then you think women shouldn't have rights.... I'm sure no one's rights will be taken away (or believes it should )if feminism ceased to exist. I'm talking about modern feminism btw.(Most people do when complaining about it)
    There's no point of feminism. It just creates lots of hate and hateful people. I'm not talking about those that actually care about equality, but if you live in America, what do men have that women don't?? I don't understand this. I know socially, some people make sexist remarks, but that doesn't infringe on anyone's rights-_-

    You cannot judge it by it's actions though. I am a feminist and very proud of it too, but that doesn't mean that I applaud to "feminists" who are radical, who blame all men.
    And the word 'Feminist' has a negative tone to it now days simply because it's made to be like that.
    Research on it. Don't just read the first thing that shows up when you Google Feminism. Do some research. Find UA-cam Videos of proper people who explain it properly. Look up people like Emma Watson and their campaign. Listen to their speeches. Read about it. But looking it up on Wikipedia and listening to the things the Media tell you about it, is wrong. Especially with a Topic like this.
    It may have it's bad sides, but that is the fault of the people who get it wrong. And it's a shame that a lot of Women are afraid to call themselves Feminist.
    There is nothing wrong with wanting to be treated equally.

You will never see a feminist insist that more money must be spent to "equal out" the number of homeless men on the streets to reach the same number as a percentage of our population. You will never see a feminist demand that women sign up for the draft to be equal to men. You will never see a feminist demand that a father have equal time off when his baby is born.
      It isn't about equality.

  • @Unworshipediety

    There are two definitions to feminism and you should most likely get your definition from an actual dictionary: instead of wikipedia. Also checking the citations can help further your understanding of it. (Yes, I watched the video but this still had to be said)
    Judging an entire ideology by the actions of some of it's adherents doesn't hold up to the history that ideal represents. Civil rights within themselves would have gained very little support if one bends to the dynamic of public opinion.
    Human beings like to avoid conflict that requires a sustained opposition. Being that feminism is such a contentious topic the feedback it's receiving is due to repetition, not the qualities it actually stands for.
    Your position is based on saying things people like to hear and you're channels value is based on presenting things that are watchable to your audience. Feminism focuses on the disparity between the sexes which isn't going to just go away. So instead of trying to negate a movements grievances with whatever group it happens to be, how about addressing the *actual* issues important to both of those groups.
    That would be a start in a the right direction instead of this drivel.

  • @ethicalerica
    @ethicalerica 9 років тому +16

    I'm really sorry Julie but you ARE a feminist. If you believe in equal rights for men and women then you ARE, by definition (not a wikipedia article, but by actual definition) a feminist. So you can make as many videos as you like but if you want men and women to be treated equally, you're a feminist. You don't need to be part of the "movement", but you are one regardless. And I'm glad to hear you're sticking up for men when they're told they're "all evil" or whatever. I've never heard any feminists say that but if you have heard people say that then of course you should stand up against it. It's a very feminist thing to do, because we are all equal and should be treated that way.
    But I do think it's sad that, even though you're a feminist, you still think there is something wrong with calling yourself that. If you don't like the men and women who you think are giving feminism a bad name then why don't you try to give feminism a good name? Because you literally cannot say that you believe in the social, political, economic equality of men and women and also say you're not a feminist. Because if you believe in such equality, you are a feminist. It's time to own it and start becoming a person who represents feminism in a positive way, instead of turning against gender equality based on a few people who you think are doing the wrong thing. If you think feminism would be a better movement if there were more feminists like you then you should own up to being a feminist and be one of those people.
    It sort of reminds me of some white people I know who use excuses for being racists. They say things like "but I've heard black people say racist things against white people so it's okay to hate black people because of it" ...no, it's not. Yeah, there may be women who are sexist too but that doesn't make it okay to take away gender equality for everyone else. If you believe we should all be equal then you're a feminist and don't let the actions of few man-haters (who couldn't possibly be real feminists by definition) change the fact that you believe in gender equality and are therefore a feminist.
    For the record, that is what people mean when they say "these people should look up the definition of feminism". Because, a lot of the time, people say things like "I'm not a feminist because I believe I am equal to men" which is like saying "I'm a racist because I think all races are equal" it just doesn't make sense. If you think men and women deserve to be treated equally then you're a feminist and it makes no sense to say otherwise.

    • @ethicalerica
      @ethicalerica 9 років тому +3

      Astroghouls Actually it does. I'm a humanist... but that has NOTHING to do with feminism or gender equality. You need to look up the definition of humanism, too. I'm a humanist because I'm an atheist who believed in logic and critical thinking and the value of human beings. And I'm a feminist because I believe in gender equality. Two different thing. I'm ALSO an egalitarian because I believe all things are equal. In fact, you can't be an egalitarian and NOT be a feminist. It's just not possible. Because if you believe all things are equal, then you'd probably also believe that men and women should have equal social, political and economic rights. Unless you're bat shit crazy.
      For the record I'm also a vegan because I believe in animal rights. I'm a social liberalist because I believe social justice should be a driving political force. I'm also many, many other things. That doesn't take anything away from the fact that I'm a humanist, an atheist, an egalitarian AND.... a feminist. I am all those things. By definition.

    • @ethicalerica
      @ethicalerica 9 років тому +2

      Kory Millett You still, literally, did not understand me nor any of the feminists who keep saying "look up the definition". It's honestly not that hard to understand. Feminism means you believe in social, economic and political equality of the two genders. So if you believe in that, you're a feminist whether you like the "movement" or not. You don't need to even be part of the "movement" because the "movement" isn't part of the definition of feminism. So she can not like the actions of SOME feminists but she can't say that because of that she's not a feminist. It doesn't work like that. And that is why people keep saying "look up the definition". If you believe in gender equality you are, by definition, a feminist. End of story. It's honestly quite a simple concept to understand. And when people don't understand it, you can see why people think they're morons.

    I identify as a feminist, this does not mean that I feel oppressed, owed to, that I hate men or any of those things you have mentioned. I am a feminist simply because I believe in equality, because I believe that if a guy wants to wear nail polish he can damn well do so without being called a queer.
    The reason why I dislike the women against feminism trend, is that although some of them have legit reasons, many are outrageous stereotypes. Because according to many of those on there I am a disrespectful, bitchy slut. None of which are true. You can not support feminism, or be against it, what the problem is, is when people's reasons are so outrageous that suddenly because I'm a feminist I have no class.
    I was severely bullied by a boy, to the point where for years I would hyperventilate trying to tell my parents anything. And despite that I never hated him, I never wanted pity, heck I hated it. So no, not all "feminists" are what you described. But it is clear that feminism isn't as it was back in the day, they won us the right to vote, it's time modern feminists show their predecessors that we also can change things for the better, for both genders.

    • @zadros7
      @zadros7 8 років тому +2

      SweetBlossoms So what exactly will feminism do to ensure that nobody calls a man with painted nails a queer? Re-education?
      And why is that a bad thing? Seriously. If a man paints his nails should we call him a "manly man"? No. So, should he just ignore the comment? Yes.
      Because it doesn't matter what you do or how you do it the world is place big enough that someone out there would comment or insult you, that's why people just learn to ignore them.
      You know the old saying: "sticks and stones may break my bones...", so as long as nobody harms another person they can say whatever they want because they are free to do so.

    In order for a problem to be fixed, one must acknowledge that there is a problem and make it known that it is a problem. This is what you label as complaining. This complaining brought women the right to vote, ability to have a job, to wear one's hair however they want, the evolution from corsette to bra, women wearing pants, and the ability for women to be out in public being postmodern and complain about all the work that women before them did so they can act like these victories are no big deal. All these things are brought to you by feminism and the feminist movement. You're welcome.

      @jensenamangus506 9 років тому +2

      There's websites for everything right now. There's websites for the KKK and child slave trades, but that doesn't automatically make them right. Feminism started in the 1800's with the argument for women to vote. That was the first wave. During WWII men were off to war and women and children worked in factories. Women wore pants to work for safety reasons. When the men came back women had to fight to keep their place in the work place and make pants a non-gendered clothing item.The second wave happened in the 1920's with flapper culture and the invention of birt control. Women wanted less bulky clothing which lead to the flapper dress and the brazier instead of the corsette. It goes on...dude even if you just knew the fashion history stuff you'd know these things. Research is your friend :D
