He is still neurotic, has OCD, insecure about his looks, mispronounces words, hates Democrats and Liberals and Greens, loves Nick. He has grown up, it's realistic development. If he stayed douche in his late 30s, it would be lame and boring. He was less and less douche with each season, so it was a gradual development.
