From here in Nova Scotia an Irish blessing for you. May brooks and trees and singing hills join in the chorus too, and every gentle wind that blows send happiness to you. You are doing great!
Taylor I hope you are in a safe place right now. The weather close to where you are is supposed to be increasingly worse for the next few hours. I am only 19 miles from Erwin and the wind is getting worse each hour and their is a possibility of golf ball size hail tonight. Please stay safe !!!!!!
Yes I've been staying at a hostel for a couple nights
So glad you got to come through Erwin and see our little town. We ❤️ the hikers!
Looks like you came upon an area where they recently did a controlled burn. Ramdino reported earlier on some going on along the trail this month.
I think that was probably a prescribed burn. We use fire to keep some of the traditionally open areas open and, in general, a low intensity fire is good for our eastern forests and wildlife.
Yes👆🏻
Tufted Titmouse at :26 , and Golden Crowned Kinglet at :45 (so jealous! Been looking/listening for one all winter) :)
You do a great job with adjustments along the way - so many great tips!
Thanks for doing this. I'm guessing that you're a birder ? My brother is.
I can't hear anything at 45 sec. Are you sure that's the correct time ? (I do have a hearing loss so I might be missing it).
@@djg5950 Yes- I am a birder, and love birding higher elevations, thus hike a lot chasing birds.
@@djg5950 It is high frequency. Many older folks on my bird walks have a difficult time with the high freq bird calls/songs.
It starts at :37 and continues to :47 (sorry - I was slightly off).
@@AnnieBird55 Ok. I did listen before to that whole time frame. Still can't hear it. Maybe if I use some head phones ? Currently none of them work (broken wires). Thanks for identifying them for us anyway. I really appreciate it even when I can't hear it. I often wonder about bird calls in Nature but only know a few.
Must have been a recent burn if you smelled it. Looking forward to tomorrow’s vlog. I’m intrigued. Thanks for bringing us along.
The beauty spot has great views.
I love that top o the mountain has no views I love the trees and the woods. Great day with such a later start. 👍👍
Nice cliffhanger! I can't wait for tomorrow's episode.
The forest service was doing controlled burns in a number of spots along the trail. I’m sorry it was so cold. Fortunately April will be here soon. The number of cold nights will decrease. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
Awesome. The good thing is you will not have to many more really cold nights. I like how your attitude is whatever time I get started , or stop does not matter. You just take it day by day and are having a blast from what it looks like. Sure makes it enjoyable to watch while drinking my morning coffeee at my desk. Love it. Lets Go.:)
There's such an eerie beauty to recent burns - especially with the fog you were experiencing!
So fun watching you hike the trail. I know your postings are 5-7 days behind your actual position so hopefully you are aware of the severe weather headed your way and can make accommodations. Also hope that the weather severity dissipates by the time it gets to wherever it is that you are currently. Safe travels to everyone on the AT. I hope to make it up to your shop this summer 😁
I’m watching this every day. This is like the best thing on TV.
☺☺
That pine forest looks magical! Reminds me of Moosilauke.
Spruce.
Taylor--best AT production on YT. The foggy walk out at 2:42 speaks volumes of Spring 2021. Great job on your 17.1
Another great video. THANK You for bringing us along. So inspirational.... can't wait for tomorrow's Vlog to reveal the "Rough" stuff. Stay safe out there ! The White Mountains are waiting to welcome you home.
Another great video. Controlled burns to keep area refreshed and minimize disastrous wildfires.
Sorry that Beauty Spot was foggy for you! Great views from there when it's clear. Hike on!
Enjoyed watching the video. You are killing the miles even on late starts. Awesome job. Someone ahead of you had to take a zero because of the burns going on. Maybe less than a week ahead of you.
The burned area is a controlled burn. They burn the underbrush so that if there is a fire there isn't any fuel to keep it burning! Happy trails. Dianne
Gooood morning from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great day!
Morning david!
@@ononewheel7 Morning!👋
Good morning David. How they hanging ?
@@djg5950 🤣🤣🤣
@@djg5950 Evening Gracie! Just fine and dandy thank you! How'd your day treat ya?
Taylor, smiling; “ We got dropped off at Dunkin!”!
Taylor, gleeful; “Then we went to McDonald’s “!
The fog and the black ground made for a very cinematic scene.
You have started using cliffhangers :D
Unaka mountains is pronounced (you neigh Kuh) just FYI. Beauty spot is usually very pretty. The burn you are seeing is prescribed burns that have been going on. Enjoying your hike! Thanks for sharing with us.
I think the ash was from som forest fires a couple of years back I wish you the best of luck
When I was at the beauty spot it was even more socked in with fog and mist. I even lost the trail for a bit and found myself on a horse trail or something.
Horse poop instead of white blazes !
Been binge watching last years trip and so excited to see you going for it again. Your enthusiasm is infectious!! Keep going will be binge watching when I get home!!!!! you go girl.
This is a beautiful hike on a pretty day, sorry you missed the views.
Dang it teasers ! 😁 Your doing awesome , summer will be there soon. 👍💪
So who’s the mystery hiker Taylor! It’s better sometimes to hike with people and a lot of time I like to hike alone! Hope ya have a great day!
I've been hiking with a couple others for a while now, I don't like filming other people but they're usually around!
on cold nights i take a quick walk up and down the trail before getting into the bag
I'd say definitely a prescribed burn that got a little hot in a couple spots.
Controlled burn. It's time of year for it. I have been seeing smoke from state park. If you can smell it, it's fresh.
Go Taylor Go! Maybe you weren't past my neck of the woods yet... Oh well! Doing great!!
That looks like a prescribed burn, give it a couple of weeks it will be green
Nice video, so let's keep on hiking 🚶♀️😀👍😄
I live in this area and talk to the captain of the ranger station some and they was up on trail that runs from Indian grave gap to the beauty spot doing subscribed burns a few weeks back. This is a good thing for the forest to help with potential wild fires and new growth for the wildlife.
I’m hiking this section in May, I hope the weather is better!
good morning! glad you got your dunks fix! hope it warms up for u! thanks for taking us to the trail w/ you. seeing the AT every day is like therapy for me lol . the animals at all the hostels are the best! was there a black cat at uncle johnnys too? i think we slept with a black one i dont remember the little multi colored one. hes adorable though! soo cute!
Morning Taylor! So glad you enjoyed your dunks! Almost like home! Kinda spooky day. Hopefully it was a controlled burn in that area. Good idea staying busy to keep warm. Those cold nights can be tough especially when you have been hiking in rain all day. Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow's miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.
-Grateful
I've got my whole family referring to it as "Dunks" now thanks to Taylor - lol
@@Jaysus145 not sure where you are from, but up here in New England most people call it Dunks! Dunks, honey dew, cumbies, Mary lous, we have he craziest coffee places lol. I will be actually be hiking like 5 miles from the original dunks location today! Taylor is a great ambassador for us New Englanders! She makes us look pretty normal! Let’s hope she doesn’t start saying everything’s wicked though lol. That might be a little too much 😂. Be well.
-Grateful
@@gratefulhikes Wait, what ? You're saying New Englander's aren't normal ?
I've never heard of Mary Lous. Where is that ? What is that ?
Also, back in the 70's a guy I knew referred to it as Dunkin' Dog-nuts. I stuck with that name. Don't forget Aroma Joes and Gloria Jeans. And I think we have some Tim Hortons (Canadian) here, too.
@@djg5950 no we aren’t normal. At least not to the rest of the country lol. And yup, Dog-nuts, you get that a lot too. I will give you aroma Joe’s but Gloria jeans is from the mid west. Mary lous is a small chain south of Boston. If you like sweet creamy coffee drinks with enough calories for a meal that is your kind of place! In all honesty not one of these places has coffee I would go out of my way for, but they are all at least drinkable.
@@gratefulhikes Black ! "Do you want cream and sugar in that ?" "No, black." LOL ! I do like iced coffee with cream and some of the espresso ones. But, to be honest I no longer buy coffee at coffee shops (Cumby's $1.07 a cup !) because they are way over priced and I don't need the sugar. I make perked (electric perk) coffee every day (black) and on trail used Folger's Coffee Singles. Read all of the different ones people drink and have tried Starbucks Vias. I thought it tasted like Sanka Instant Coffee. Couldn't justify the price. If I was on trail again I would definitely hit up any Dunkin that I could and pay the price for fresh coffee.
Nahamsha is my new “Dixie”.
Beauty Spot is exactly named. I have a favorite picture of my friends looking out over the valleys on a sunset. It rivals the AT Triple Crown. But maybe it is beautiful as a bald, after escaping the endless green tunnel. Come back some other time. It will still be there.
Thanks for filming an outro instead of just dropping off!
After the smokies I slept w my food bag till Shenandoahs and New Jersey
Your bag weighs 22-ish lbs. I assume it includes consumables (water/food/fuel) too, if so it doesn't sound too bad.
Yes that included consumables! I was happy with that number
Hope it warms up soon.
These are awesome videos!
Ok waiting for tomorrow's volg. 👌
I know...she left us on the hook, didn't she? Anticipation! 😊
Yes she did. Lol
Enjoying your vlog and thanks for sharing your journey! Isn’t the summit of Unaka Mountain (“You-nay-kuh”) such a beautiful, enchanted forest? Hike on!
You do seem to be able to find the Dunkins along the trail! Who doesn’t want a Dunkin Donut 🍩.👍👍
Just kidding, you posted this morning and I'm super excited to be REALLY up to date on your vids 😊 Hike on! 🤘
Can't wait I'm doing this section beauty spot to 19e in May!
19e... Allen Gap? Little Laurel? There is an area I call Sherwood Forest on the way. Wow.
Buildings some suspense for next video!!
25 lbs ? How many days of food ? I need to look and see what you are carrying. I'd be so lucky to get my pack down that low. It was 36 with 7 lbs. of food the only time I weighted it.
3 days of food
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker I really need to see what you pack to try to lighten my load. I'm working on that. BTW, 7 lbs of food was about double what I needed for the 5 days I hiked (that section). Never got hiker hunger. Not out long enough. How much weight-wise are you eating every day ? Do you know ? I'm sure you are burning a ton more calories than I did. I'm slow, never made more than 7 miles, and need to lose weight (plenty of fat to burn). You will have a problem more with losing too much and getting enough calories. Keep hiking, you're doing good.
It was a controlled burn
The black and ash place you wanted to research, it's not one of the areas of prescribed burn is it?
Too bad that you caught the Beauty Spot when she could not show you what she has to offer! The weather has really been crazy this year...lots of fog and haze and smoke!
Whenever I see hikers up ahead on the trail I always wonder why hikers don't hike together more. Seems like it would be a little more interesting.
I think mostly because of hiking at different speeds. Plus some like to hike alone. You can think more and pay more attention to the surroundings. Listen to the birds and whatnot. Also, stop more to look closer at wildlife like a plant or insect and take a photo. Some people like hiking together so they can talk and cut the boredom but most prefer to hike alone (from what I've seen from Vloggers and myself). People that hike together usually are those that started together (friends, relatives) or someone that you've met that you just click with and hike the same speed. Then there's the famous Pink Blazers. LOL !
3:54 Looks in the line of Sleepy Hollow 😅
Man, Dunkin Donuts on a thru hike just sounds amazing
Taylor runs on Dunkin'!
Remember that day it didn’t rain on the AT? Lol
Tippy taps! Hope he got lots of pets!
Kitty is making bread! 👨🍳
Good Morning 🌞☀️😃
Hi jeff!
Daily hello to you Jeff.
Yay! You got your Dunkin’!
Beauty Spot was an intentional burn .
Uhhhh because it was a fire? For up-keep on the trail......
More rain!!
23lbs. Is a great weight.
Good stuff!
What watch do you have? Make, model - Thanks!
Garmin vivoactive 3
00:27 did you petted'ed her??!
Allllll mineee 😍😗😙😘😚
Are u hiking the entire trail ?
Yes
YUM!
Pretty kitty
You big tease!
I enjoy yr videos but are too short. I believe some will stop watching for this reason. Good day
I think the opposite, the shorter videos gives everyone more of a chance to keep up.
When they start posting 40 plus mins videos I lose interest too time consuming.
Do your chores! Lol
U-na-ka
What kind of donuts did you get? I'm a chocolate with chocolate icing king of human lol
Ahhh they mighty double chocolate… that was my go to back in the day. That and the sugar raised ❤️
@@gratefulhikes oh my... I forgot all about the sugar raised. Yum!
@@gratefulhikes Do you remember when they made pistachio (and I think cherry, too) flavored donuts ? I loved those but I liked anything pistachio flavored. Pistachio or chocolate ice cream were the only two kinds I'd eat (now I've added coffee flavored but that's it). This had to be in the early 1970's. They stopped making them after a few years. I had to wait years before they made pistachio flavored muffins. They, mostly, ruined those by putting all that sugar on top.
P.S. Honey dipped, chocolate honey dipped or French crullers (egg based mix like a pop over). Don't eat donuts anymore.
@@djg5950 I started eating dunkin in 1980? Really started enjoying it in like 82-83. Back when they had waitresses and the dunkin donut. Still my all time fav. I remember Cherry filled but not pistachio. I bet those were amazing! Be well.
😊
Made me cold just hearing you talk about it.
👍
First
You da man!
@@daviddavis703, Ononewheel must have lost their phone. Hope their ok.
@@freeheel748 He released a video on his channel right before Taylor's, so he might be busy with that?
Nice job free heel
Im on the road heading to south Carolina!
@@ononewheel7 For what ? You going to do some hiking ? Have a safe trip.
If I ate your trail diet they would fined me dead on the trail from a diabetic shock enjoy them foods wile you are young when you are 50 plus can’t eat nothing good
Not true. I can eat anything I want and I'm 70. That's because I never ate much candy/sugar when I was young so didn't over tax my insulin resistance. Still works just fine. Might have been because I never drank soda either.
Soda is the worst thing anyone can drink
