This interview is everything I could have asked for in a retrospective interview. Limited focused, lots of dev insights. While I think it may be awkward to do this for earlier sets, but I'd love to hear Bryan's thoughts on other sets he had a hand in - EVO and OUT in particular.
Awesome interview! we just linked this to our interview wiht Bryan :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Finally managed to tune into this! Thank you for the kind words ❤
Commoner is my favorite format.
Preconstructed blitz is also a very enjoyable format to me.
LSS makes great blitz decks that play in fun ways out of the box.
Please don't neglect these "lesser" formats because so far they are excellent in their design and execution.
Awesome chat. Heavy hitters and pro tour LA will definitely be looked upon in the future as a cementing of the impact fab has on the TCG space.
Absolutely
I wish you'd have thrown in a question about the rare spec equipment and whether we can expect similar treatment for other heroes to shape their unique identity in commoner, because for me that was one outstanding design choice which also created an imbalance when it comes to heroes without this treatment. He said "we can make similar decisions in the future" and I would have lvoed for him to elaborate more.
Great talk regardless! Very curious about no-boost mech on the far horizon.
Thank you both for these interviews, it's really great to hear these things, gives me hope in this great game I love to play.
I'm happy to hear that there may be a change in Mechanologist mechanics, though I feel that boost was a great way to balance the pure aggro strategy. As the game has grown the mechanic has become a detriment to the class and without just putting better rates on cards I don't see the class being viable when classes have 4 pieces of Legendary armor.
We can all agree zero to sixty red is "over rate" yet if you take it to the extreme - a deck of 60 zero to sixty reds is simply beat by blocking out, no armor needed. The boost mechanic may need a legendary or majestic level over rate boost attack(s) to become viable
Olympia is my favorite commoner deck right now.
With Hatchets or decimator.
Dorinthea with Hatchets is too taxing mentally to play well, for me.
Simple heroes are good too.
Great interview, the depth Andrew gets from Bryan makes this a very interesting conversation. Great work man!
Great interview!
Also I as a very much hybrid/boost teklovossen enjoyer understand the idea of going boostless for teklo but I still think its a bit early to say one is more successful rather than wording it as one has more easier polarizing matchups since people have only played just full control at event. Also the nature of the polarizing matchups is like saying right now slab dash is better than hybrid dash.
That said I'm really excited for what kind of designs or mechanics can come from a set of mechanologists not designed around boost, and how/if they'd want to use boost or if it will be scrap focused, item, construct, galvanize, or other new mechanic based. Also I hope that the cards can successfully trickle down and not accidentally overpower all the mechs!
Thanks!
Great interview! Thanks to both of you!!
And thanks for asking my question (and the very kind comments…)
Any time!
What a great chat!
Great interview.
Bryan is so eloquent.
Go Commando!
I'm super excited for MST. Everyone seemed to love heavy hitters but it was just so so to me.
Was the bungled commoner event brought up at all in this interview?
No, Bryan doesn't work for Star City nor is he the LSS organized play person.
I just don't agree that Beat Chest helps Rhinar that much. Full aggro beat cheast is playable, mid-range is super situational.
Thanks for the comment
